1.Cardiovascular surgery in the elderly: an update
Journal of Geriatric Cardiology 2005;2(2):123-128
The aging of the population and improvements in outcomes after cardiovascular surgery have resulted in a worldwide growing demand of complex surgical intervention for elderly patients. We briefly review the up-to-date English-language literature with particular focus on cardiovascular surgery in elderly patients. With earlier referral, careful preoperative evaluation, strategic planning, and the continuing efforts in optimizing surgical techniques, operative mortality and morbidity following primary or reoperative coronary artery bypass grafting and valvular interventions are expected to fall in this high-risk patient subset. Importantly, accumulating evidence indicates that elderly patients may benefit from improved functional status and quality of life after cardiovascular surgical therapy

3.Construction and HepG2 cell line expression of the plasmid containing IFN-5? gene and hepatitis B virus DNA with X gene deletion
Chinese Journal of Infectious Diseases 2000;0(02):-
Objective To construct an X-gene defect and IFN gene contained HBV expression plasmid and explore its expression effect in HepG2 cell line. Methods By employing pBR322-B-HBV plasmid which contained type adrⅠHBV DNA, we destroyed HBV X-gene by inserting mutation and connected the defect HBV with IFN sequence. After recombination, it was introduced into a mammalian plasmid and was constructed as the objective plasmid. At the same time, two control groups were constructed. One was pcDNA3-ES-HBV2, which contained the full length of HBV DNA. The other was pcDNA3-KN-F1F2, which contained the X-gene defect HBV DNA. Then we transfected HepG2 cells with all the plasmid. After the cells were screened by G418, the X-gene defect and IFN gene contained HBV(KN-F1F2-IFN) and IFN protein from culture medium were detected by fluorescence- quantitative-PCR and ELISA respectively. Results pcDNA3-KN-F1F2-IFN, as the objective plasmid, was constructed successfully; contrary with the control virus, the amounts of both HBV and HBsAg were lower; both IFN mRNA and IFN protein were detected. Conclusions An X-gene defect and IFN gene contained HBV expression plasmid was constructed successfully and it can be expressed in HepG2 cell line.

Stem cell is one of the hot spot in the research area of biomedical engineering. Special attentions are drawn to the research and application of neural stem cells. Neural stem cells exist widely in central nervous system, which has the capacity of self-renewal and the potential to differentiate into other cells. The so-called engineered neural stem cell is constructed by using the technique of genetic engineering to make it be able to express various neural growth factors with high-performance and stability. The engineered neural stem cells have a great potential in the therapy of diseases of central nervous system, especially the spinal cord injury. This article reviews the research development of engineered neural stem cells, the problems confronted with it, and the trend for research in the future.

Chinese Journal of Applied Physiology 2015;31(2):166-169
OBJECTIVETo Study the effect of anti-aging and its mechanism of total saponins of Wu-He Dipsacus asper on skin of mice-aging model.
METHODSForty-eight mice were randomly divided into blank control group, model group, low-Dipsacus group, medium-Dipsacus group, high-Dipsacus group and positive control group( n = 8) . The mouse model of skin aging was established by nape subcutaneous injection of 5% D-galactose (0.025 mL/(g · d)), the mouse of low-Dipsacus group, medium-Dipsacus group, high-Dipsacus group were administered with total saponins of Wu-He Dipsacus asper (50 ml/(kg · d), 100 mL/(kg · d), 200 mL/(kg · d)), the mice of the positive control group were administered with vitamin E(50 mg/(kg · d)) for 42 d. The content of hydroxyproline (HYP) and lipofuscin (LF) were measured in skin of each group mice, the activity of catalase (CAT) glutathione peroxidase ( GSH-Px) superoxide dismutase (SOD) and the content of malondi- aldehyde (MDA) were determined in serum and skin of each group mice.
RESULTSCompared with blank control group, the content of HYP decreased significantly and the content of LF increased significantly in skin, the activities of CAT, GSH-Px and SOD decreased significantly and the content of MDA increased significantly in serum and skin of model group; Compared with model group, the content of HYP increased significantly and the content of LF decreased significantly in skin, the activities of CAT, GSH-Px and SOD enhanced significantly and the con- tent of MDA decreased significantly in serum and skin of low-Dipsacus group, medium-Dipsacus group, high-Dipsacus group and positive control group; Compared with low-Dipsacus group, the content of HYP increased significantly and the content of LF decreased significantly in skin, the activities of CAT, GSH-Px and SOD enhanced significantly and the content of MDA decreased significantly in serum and skin of high-Dipsacus group and positive control group; The activity of SOD in serum and skin had a significant positive correlation with the content of HYP, and a significant negative correlation with LF in skin.
CONCLUSIONTotal saponins of Wu-He Dipsacus asper have obvious effect of anti-agng on skin of mouse-aging model , its mechanism is closely related to oxidative damage.

Objective To investigate the position and distribution of the neurovascular bundle at the lateral border of the prostate in adult male. Methods The neurovascular bundle at the lateral border of the prostate was observed on the remaining 25 sides of the medially dissected 18 male formalin-preserved cadavers with an operative microscope. The neurovascular bundle at the lateral border of the prostate of an adult male cadaver was explored with hematoxylin and eosin staining and nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) immunohistochemistry staining. Results The neurovascular bundle, which stemed from the pelvic plexus, together with the corresponding vessels were formed and divided into 2 branches to pass the lateral border of the prostate. One of them traveled between the posterolateral prostate and anterolateral rectum. The other traveled between the bladder neck and the prostate to reach the lateral border of the puboprostatic ligament. After 2 nerve branches of the neurovascular bundles pierced the urogenital diaphragm, they met together to form a nerve bundle again. Two bundles and the urogenital diaphragm formed a triangle area at the lateral border of the prostate. There was no nerve and vessel in this triangle area. The nerve branches at the lateral border of the prostate contained nerve cell bodies and fibers that stained positive for nitric oxide synthase. Conclusions There are 2 neurovascular bundles at the lateral border of the prostate. One of them travels between the posterolateral prostate and anterolateral rectum. The other travels between the bladder neck and the prostate to reach the lateral border of the puboprostatic ligament. They contain nerve ganglia that stain positive for nitric oxide synthase.
