Objective To investigate the relationship between genetic polymorphism of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) and the risk of childhood acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL).Methods 45 patients with ALL and a cohort of 45 matched healthy children were included,and DNA was extracted from their peripheral blood.PCR-RFLP was used to determine the genotypes of MTHFR C677T and A1298C.The adjusted odds tatio (OR) and 95 ％ confidence interwal (CI) were calculated using unconditional logistic regression model.Results The frequency of MTHFR 677 CC,CT and TT genetypes were 31.1％ (14/45),51.1％ (23/45) and 17.7 ％ (8/45) in controls and 51.1％ (23/45),40.0 ％ (18/45) and 8.9 ％ (4/45)in ALL,respectively (x2 =7.48,P =0.04).The frequency of MTHFR 677 T allele were 69.9 ％ (31/45) in controls and 48.8 ％ (22/45) in ALL.The MTHFR 677 T allele had an decreased risk in ALL compared with CC genetype (OR =0.4,95 ％ CI 0.21-0.83).The frequency of MTHFR 1298 AA,AC and CC genetypes were 57.8 ％,40.0 ％ and 2.2 ％ in controls and 18.8 ％,44.4 ％ and 6.8 ％ in ALL,respectively (x2 =11.23,P=0.23).The frequency of MTHFR 1298 C allele were 51.1％ (23/45) in controls and 42.2 ％ (19/45) in ALL.No significant association between the MTHFR 1298 polymorphism and the risk of ALL (OR =1.3,95 ％ CI 0.21-0.83).Conclusion MTHFR 677 polymorphism could significantly decrease the risk of developing childhood ALL,whereas MTHFR 1298 don' t significantly affect the risk of ALL.

OBJECTIVE： To discuss the severe liver function damage induced by antituberculostics.METHODS： The severe liver function damage induced by antituberculotis was analyzed in 50 patients admitted into this hospital from January 1995 to January 2000.RESULTS： Sever liver function damage was related to the following factors:(1)history of liver diseases;(2)aged patient and malnutritional patient;(3)chronic alcoholism;(4)combined use of isoniazid,rifampin with other drugs;(5)hepatic dysfunction before treatment.CONCLUSION： The abovementioned factors should be under consideration in choice of antituberculotics.

Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis(PGD) is an advanced technology based on in-vitro fertility-embryo transfer,which binds multiple-discipline arts,specially the research on DNA analysis assay of single cell,to reach the aim of aristogenesis and wash out abnormal embryo before transfer.With the development of this technique and the ever wider applications,ethical issues also arise.This paper focuses on these ethical issues related to PGD,expecting an actual benefit for human.

Objective To compare the content of organic acid in Folium Isatidis from differernt Habitats. Methods According to ultraviolet absorption atlases characteristics of the three main organic acid in Folium Isatidis, DSA UV-2401 was used to determinate the acidcontent of Folium Isatidis from differernt Habitats, and carried on to inspect the methodology. Results The difference of the acidcontent of Folium Isatidis from differernt Habitats is notable. Conclusion The method is simple, accurate and duplicated good, and can be used as quantitative analysis method of organic acid in Folium Isatidis.

Objective To evaluate the effects of three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3DCRT) on the local control and survival of patients with local recurrence or metastasis in colorectal cancer. Methods Twenty-three patients with local recurrence or metastasis in colorectal cancer were irradiated by 3DCRT. The regimen was: total dose 40-45?Gy, 5-7?Gy/f, 1f/2d. Results Of the 23 patients, 8 achieved CR and 9 PR with a total response rate of 74%(17/23). The overall 1-, 2-and 3-year survival rates were 78%,52% and 30%. Conclusion 3DCRT is able to prolong the survival and improve the life quality of patients with local recurrence or metastasis in colorectal cancer.

AIM: To explore the effects in different dosage of ketamine on the expression of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) in medial septal nuclei (MS) and vertical diagonal band (VDB) of rats. METHODS: 40 SD rats were randomized into normal control group,normal saline(NS) group, low, middle and high dosage of ketamine(25,50,100 mg?kg~ -1 ,ip) group.Each group was maintained intraperitoneally by given daily dosage once a day for a period up to 7 days. That was done at 2100 hour each night, and by 2 h of the last administration, poured, fixed and sliced were carried out. Method of nicotinamide adenosine dinucleotide phosphate diaphorase (NADPH-d) was used to show the expression of NOS in MS and VDB pars dorsalis and ventro. RESULTS: Compared with normal control and NS group, the number of NOS positive neurons were decreased in MS and VDB pars dorsalis and ventro in ketamine groups.There were statistical meaing in different-dosage groups of ketamine(P

Objective To explore the optimal method of anesthesia in radical resection of gastric cancer by comparing the effects of two anesthesia techniques on the balance of Th1/Th2 in order to provide evidence for clinical anesthesia manage-ment.Methods Forty patients who underwent elective radical resection of gastric cancer were randomized into two groups:in-halation anesthesia group(group S)and total intravenous anesthesia group(group P),in which sevoflurane and propofol were ad-ministered for the induction and maintenance of anesthesia,respectively.The general data of the patients were collected,the tis-sue type of tumors obtained and the fluid infusion and blood loss volumes recoded.The VAS score was obtained 1 h,6 h and 5 d after the surgery.Before the induction of anesthesia,6 h and 5 d after surgery,the blood samples were drawn to determine the serum levels of IL-1β,IFN-γ,TNF-α,IL-2,IL-6 and IL-10.Flow cytometry was used to detect the proportion of CD3+CD8-IFN-γ+ and CD3+CD8-IL-10+ cells and the Th1/Th2 ratio was calculated.Results The level of IL-6 was increased post-sur-gically in groups S and P(P<0.05).There were no significant changes in the levels of IL-1β,IL-2 and IL-10 in groups S and P and in the levels of TNF-αand IFN-γ,and the Th1/Th2 ratio in group S between before the induction of anesthesia and different time points after the surgery(P>0.05).The levels of TNF-αand IFN-γ,and the Th1/Th2 ratio were significantly increased in group P 5 d after the surgery(P<0.05).Conclusion Total intravenous anesthesia with propofol can enhance Th1 response and it is an ideal anesthetic method for radical resection of gastric cancer.

Objective To review the biologic characteristics and biologic effect of cholecystokinine (CCK) on the central nervous system. Methods The literatures of recent years on research advancement of cholecystokinine as neurotransmitters/peptides in signal transduction, neuron protection and pain management in the central nervous system are reviewed. Results CCK possesses the ability to suppress the convulsant effects of convulsants. CCK8 is able to reduce the neural damage caused and delay the neural aging. CCK antagonists play an important role in human pain transduction. Conclusion CCK has been proven to be one of the richest neurotransmitters/neuropeptides as well as an important signal factor in the brain, and its important biologic effect is being confirmed.
