Background: Cranial trauma is a major cause of death among types of trauma. So far, although pediatric cranial trauma can leave more severe consequences, it has not still been adequate attended.\r\n', u'Objectives: To study clinical characteristics and cranial trauma treatment of under 16 years old children in Binh Dinh General Hospital. Subjects and method: A retrospective study was conducted on 256 under 16 year old patients with cranial trauma (180 males, 76 female) in Binh Dinh General Hospital from January, 2005 to September, 2005. Results:Cranial trauma in children was common seen in male/female ratio as 70.31/29.69. Common aged between 3-16 years old (89%). Main cause of it was traffic accident (64.5%). 100% of patients admitted to hospital with a Glasgow score 11 points. In those aged 3-16 years old, 14.03% of them with score of Glasgow coma scale \ufffd?2 points. Cranial CT scans: 78 patients, Cranial X-rays: 122 patients. Surgical rate 10.6%. Mean surgical days was 5.12\xb13.80 days. Complication rate was 33.2%. Non-operative mortality was 1.56%. Conclusion: Cranial trauma was common seen in those aged 3-16 years old, in male more than female. According to Glasgow outcome scale, good recovery rate achieved 65.23%. \r\n', u'

A prospective case–control study was conducted in urban districts in Hanoi, northern Vietnam to evaluate the effect of migration on the risk of hospitalisation for dengue in a Vietnamese urban population. We enrolled laboratory-confirmed dengue patients aged >18 years who were hospitalised in local hospitals in November and December 2010. Four neighbourhood-matched controls for each case were recruited within a week of hospitalisation. Sociodemographic data were collected by interviews, and the number of immature and adult mosquitoes within household premises was counted by entomological survey. Matched-pair analyses were conducted using conditional logistic regression models. Among 43 cases and 168 controls, 84% and 83% were migrants from rural areas, respectively. Although statistical significance was marginal, recent migration (residing in study area for <5 years) independently increased the risk of hospitalisation for dengue compared with inhabitants after controlling for potential confounders (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 3.78; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.99–14.27), whereas longer-term migration (residing in study area for >6 years) did not change the risk (aOR = 1.1; 95% CI = 0.30–4.05). Younger age (18–34 years) (aOR = 7.26; 95% CI = 2.39–22.06) and higher adult Aedes aegypti infestation level within household premises (aOR = 9.25; 95% CI = 1.68–51.09) were also independently associated with hospitalisation for dengue. Recent migration from rural areas seems to increase the risk of hospitalisation for dengue in urban populations in endemic areas. Further research including cohort study should be done to confirm the impact of migration on the risk of dengue in urban areas.

Objectives: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has increased the workload of healthcare workers (HCWs), impacting their health. This study aimed to assess sleep quality using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and identify factors associated with poor sleep among HCWs in Vietnam during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 1000 frontline HCWs were recruited from various healthcare facilities in Vietnam between October 2021 and November 2021. Data were collected using a 3-part self-administered questionnaire, which covered demographics, sleep quality, and factors related to poor sleep. Poor sleep quality was defined as a total PSQI score of 5 or higher. Results: Participants’ mean age was 33.20±6.81 years (range, 20.0-61.0), and 63.0% were women. The median work experience was 8.54±6.30 years. Approximately 6.3% had chronic comorbidities, such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus. About 59.5% were directly responsible for patient care and treatment, while 7.1% worked in tracing and sampling. A total of 73.8% reported poor sleep quality. Multivariate logistic regression revealed significant associations between poor sleep quality and the presence of chronic comorbidities (odds ratio [OR], 2.34; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.17 to 5.24), being a frontline HCW directly involved in patient care and treatment (OR, 1.59; 95% CI, 1.16 to 2.16), increased working hours (OR, 1.84; 95% CI,1.37 to 2.48), and a higher frequency of encountering critically ill and dying patients (OR, 1.42; 95% CI, 1.03 to 1.95). Conclusions The high prevalence of poor sleep among HCWs in Vietnam during the COVID-19 pandemic was similar to that in other countries. Working conditions should be adjusted to improve sleep quality among this population.

Background: Melaleuca essential oil has many good effects, bringing economic efficiency; however, low extraction efficiency is a problem that needs to be overcome. This study aims to enhance the efficiency of extracting Melaleuca essential oil by employing deep eutectic solvents (DESs). Materials and methods: Branches and leaves of Melaleuca cajuputi Powell were pretreated by DESs. Carry out the distillation of essential oils by steam distillation. Determination of the chemical composition of essential oils by chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Results: The combination of choline chloride and oxalic acid to create DESs solvent system helps the extraction efficiency of Melaleuca essential oil increase by 160%. In addition, the total content of 1,8-cineol and isocineol in the essential oil extracted with DESs solvent was 34.019%, higher than that of the essential oil extracted with distilled water at 30.749%. Conclusions: The positive results show the potential of using DESs solvents to improve the yield and quality of Melaleuca essential oil

Objective: At the time of this study, the prevention of novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) relied solely on nonpharmaceutical interventions. Implementation of these interventions is not always optimal and, consequently, several cases were imported into non-epidemic areas and led to large community outbreaks. This report describes the characteristics of the first community outbreak of COVID-19 in Viet Nam and the intensive preventive measures taken in response. Methods: Cases were detected and tested for SARS-CoV-2 by real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. Contact tracing and active surveillance were conducted to identify suspected cases and individuals at risk. Clinical symptoms were recorded using a standardized questionnaire. Results: In Vinh Phuc province from 20 January to 3 March 2020, there were 11 confirmed cases among 158 suspected cases and 663 contacts. Nine of the confirmed cases (81.8%) had mild symptoms at the time of detection and two (18.2%) were asymptomatic; none required admission to an intensive care unit. Five prevention and control measures were implemented, including quarantining a community of 10 645 individuals for 20 days. The outbreak was successfully contained as of 13 February 2020. Discussion: In the absence of specific interventions, the intensive use of combined preventive measures can mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The lessons learned may be useful for other communities.
