1.Mumps orchitis treatment with corticoids
Journal of Medical Research 2004;27(1):89-92
Based on the results of 20 cases with mumps orchitis who were treated with Prednisolon (25-30 mgs per day in 5 days) or Triamcinolon (5-6 mgs per day in 5 days), the author showed that corticoids could either release fever and pain within 24 hours or 48 hours, or reduce the swelling of orches faster in comparison with the other group of patients. Nevertheless, corticoids could not prevent the orches shrinking

2.Assessment of virulence and potential risk of direct transmission to human of 2004-2005 virus H5N1 in Southern Vietnam through surveillance and genetic analysis
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2005;15(6):5-10
Genomes of 24 human and avian H5N1 influenza viral strains in the Southern area of Vietnam during the 2004-2005 outbreaks were sequenced completely. All viruses containing multiple basic amino acids at the hemagglutinin cleavage site HA1-HA2 are associated with a highly pathogenic phenotype. A series of amino acid mutations located in NSl and PB2 proteins were associated with the possibility of efficient replication in mammalian tissue. The mutation in the receptor binding sites of HA that could affect binding process to human cells was found from isolates in 2004-2005 Avianflu outbreaks. All isolates are belonging to Z genotype. The findings indicated that H5Nl viruses in Vietnam have changed to be more infectious to human host in 2004-2005 Avianflu outbreaks.

3.Antibiotic susceptibility figures of some common pathogenous bacteria in the communities
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2005;15(1):33-36
The study was conducted on Six hundred and thirty eight Streptococcus pneumoniae strains, 357 Haemophilus influenzae strains and 1475 Escherichia coli strains, were isolated from naso-pharyngeal, and rectal swabs in healthy children under 5 year olds, and 147 Salmonella typhi strains and 133 Shigella flexneri strains were isolated in 2002. These strains were tested for antibiotic susceptibility. The results showed that benzyl-penicillin was susceptible to S. pneumoniae pathogenous strains in community. The third generation cephalosporines showed the highest susceptibility to H. influenzae pathogenous strains in community. Ceftazidime, cefuroxime acetil and ciprofloxacine are antibiotics with high susceptibility to E. coli pathogenous strains in community. Fluoroquinolones and 2nd and 3rd cephalosporines are susceptible to S. typhi strains with high level. The most susceptible antibiotic to S. flexneri strains was ciprofloxacine.

4.Preliminary results of nutritional intervention by digestive ferments of seed germ powder in combining with available local food on children of the age of combined feeding in Thanh Hoa
Journal of Practical Medicine 2003;439(1):3-4
Malnutrition status of children from 0 to 60 months of age in two agricultural communes in Thanh Hoa province from July 20 to October 20/2000 was investigated. The indicatior of weigh/age shows a rate of 54% of malnutrition. In graphic this rate increases dramatically in the period of 23-34 months of age, the highest is in 25-36 months of age. Digestive ferment Aplaza, a functional food, in combining with local available source of food improved significantly the nutritional state and prevented this malnutritional condition. This is an eligible way of high efficacy to strengthen the awareness and the practice of nutrition, aiding the poor population in rural area

7.Clinical and paraclinical characteristics of Dengue haemorrhagic fever (with and without Dengue Shock Syndrome) in adults
Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Information 2004;0(7):24-28
This retrospective study was aimed to assessing clinical, paraclinical symptoms of 340 patients between 16-45 years old, with Dengue haemorrhagic fever. Patients were divided into 2 groups with and without Dengue Shock Syndrome (DSS). The results showed that clinical symptoms including sudden high fever, headache, orbital pain, congested skin, petechie, and positive tourniquet test. Paraclinical symptoms included thrombocytopenia increased haematocrite, leukopenia, increased serum transaminases. This disease often occurred in October and November. DSS can occure at 4th to 7th day with symptoms vomiting, sudden subsided fever, cold clammy skin, pleural or pericardial effusion, ascites, rapid increased haematocrite, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia. Dengue haemorrhagic fever can be cured in short time with infusion of isotonic fluid and Ringer lactate fluid

8.Study on in vivo antibacterian effects of the "Bach Thuan" remedy to Staphylococcus Aureus and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa
Journal of Practical Medicine 2005;0(12):39-41
Background: "Bach thuan" is a hereditary remedy which was written by herbalist Cao Van Tan, who was from Luu Ve, Quang Xuong, Thanh Hoa. The remedy has been treated effectively many diseases including the diseases related to infection wounds. Purposes: 1. to evaluate the antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aerucinosa in experimental burned animals. 2. to find unwanted effect of the "Bach thuan" remedy on experimental burned animals. Method: identifying the sensitivity of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aerucinosa to the remedy. Conclusion: the remedy of “Bach thuan” had antibacterial effect to both Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aerucinosa. The remedy had effect of antimicrophyte to Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aerucinosa (ATCC 12228). With a dose of 25 mg/ml, the remedy killed 62.44% of bacteria after 4 days, 99.38% after 8 days of treatment. With a dose of 100 mg/ml, the remedy did not cause side effects

10.Initial result of community-based nutritional intervention with sprout powder in 0 to 12-month children in a rural area of Thanh Hoa province
Journal of Practical Medicine 2002;435(11):58-61
The incidence of malnutrition in 0 to 12-month children is high in Thanh Hãa province. Use of intestinal enzyme aplase as an augment, combining hamlet health workers and families to construct the structure of diet for children with available foods can reduce the malnutrition incidence to lower than 30%. Beside this, the interventional activities to provide the nutritional knowledge with mothers can change the nutritional practice rapidly and solidly.
