Objective: To investigate the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness in essential tremor (ET).
Methods: Twenty-seven eyes of 27 patients with essential tremor were included in this study. Twentyseven
eyes of 27 healthy volunteers served as controls. All eyes were examined with spectral domain
optical coherence tomography (OCT) (Retinascan Advanced RS-3000; NIDEK, Gamagori, Japan)
using image filling software program (NAVIS-EX, NIDEK, Tokyo, Japan). Results: No statistically
significant difference was detected between ET patients and control group for overall (RNFL) and
foveal retinal thickness parameters. [RNFL thickness (Average thickness p=0.86, superior average
p=0.22, inferior average p=0.24, nasal average p=0.06, temporal average p=0.88), foveal retinal
thickness p=0.63] There was no relationship between OCT parameters and age, gender and duration
of ET (all p>0.05).
Conclusion: We did not find altered RNFL and foveal thickness values in patients with ET compared to
controls. Retinal thickness changes do not seem to be a potentially useful biomarker in ET patients.

6.Botulinum neurotoxin a for hand tremors in Parkinson’s disease: A meta-analytic study
Lawrence George P. Garcia ; Raymond L. Rosales
Journal of Medicine University of Santo Tomas 2022;6(1):814-822
Background:
Resting tremor is a prominent cardinal motor symptom of Parkinson’s disease (PD). In some cases, the tremor may be refractory to dopaminergic and anticholinergic treatment. Multiple studies were previously done to evaluate the effectiveness of Botulinum Neurotoxin A (BoNT/A) with essential tremors and dystonia, but data regarding its use on tremors of PD is still lacking.
Objective:
This meta-analytic study aims to determine the effectiveness of BoNT/A in treating tremors of patients with PD.
Data Sources:
Data Sources: Researches were searched at PubMed, ScienceDirect and EBSCO Host.
Review Methods:
Articles on the effect of BoNT/A on PD hand tremors were searched. Studies and data pertaining to non-PD tremors like essential tremors excluded in the analysis due to difference in pathophysiology. Standardized mean difference was used as the effect measure and was computed with Review Manager version 5.4 software.
Results:
Three open label studies were used for final analysis in this study. Studies included are those pertaining to tremors due to PD. Pooled estimates showed a significant change in decreasing tremor score after BoNT/A injection.
Conclusion
Botulinum Toxin A injections can be used to manage PD tremors effectively.

Journal of the Korean Neurological Association 2001;19(1):52-55
Primary writing tremor is considered to be a task-specific tremor occurring when handwriting. We describe the clinical and electrophysiological features of 5 patients. Two of the patients had a family history of the tremor. Alcohol was effective in reducing the tremor in 3 of the patients. Two patients showed a co-contraction and three alternate contractions between agonist and antagonist muscles. The frequency of the tremors was 5 to 6 Hz. Primidone and propranolol were effective in reducing tremor. Considering the clinical and electrophysiological features, it is suggested that primary writing tremor might be a variant of essential tremor. (J Korean Neurol Assoc 19(1):52~55, 2001

Progressive ataxia and palatal tremor (PAPT) is a subgroup of symptomatic palatal tremors which is characterized by palatal tremor and idiopathic progressive cerebellar ataxia. Here, we report a 59 year-old-male who presented with a 5 months history of progressive cerebellar ataxia, and was discovered to have both a symptomatic palatal tremor and torsional nystagmus. Various studies searching for the cause of the ataxia and the palatal tremor all came out negative, thus defining this patient as a PAPT.
