Malaysian Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences 2019;15(Supplement 1):178-183
Although the modern medicine has progressed for a long time, there are empirical studies shows the effectiveness of traditional and complementary treatments (TCT) in curing chronic diseases. In Malaysia, TCT is often related to the use of herbs and meditation that vary according to ethnicity. Each ethnic group has its own beliefs system in curing diseases. This study mainly aims to provide an overview on the perceptions of the effectiveness TCT in curing chronic diseases. The authors used electronic database to select 10 journal articles according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Findings show the highest statistic among Sabah natives and followed by Malay ethnic on believing in the effectiveness of TCT. Price and encouragement from family and friends are the main influencing factors of taking TCT. We suggest that counsellors need to be aware of the TCT practices on particular culture in order to increase respect and trust in the helping relationships.

3.Culture and psychotherapy: A psychosocial framework for analysis
Acta Medica Philippina 2012;46(1):57-62
Culture possesses multiple functions in psychotherapeutic processes: (1) it creates specific sources of stress, (2) it provides specific modes of coping with distress, (3) it governs social responses to distress and disability, (4) it defines the symptoms of distress and psychopathology, (5) it determines the interpretation of symptoms and their subsequent biological, psychological, and social impacts, (6) it guides help-seeking and the response to treatment, and (7) it shapes the meaning of the illness experience. Psychotherapy, therefore, involves processes that are informed by the patient's culture. Indigenous psychotherapies could be found in many societies and they may be used alone or in conjunction with Western modalities of treatment. In the Philippines, psychotherapists largely employ Western models of psychotherapy.
This paper describes some indigenous healing rituals and discusses the psychosocial framework that lends efficacy in the treatment modalities for psychological problems. Furthermore, this paper also aims to integrate this framework into the current practice of psychotherapy in the Philippines and provide recommendations vis-a-vis training, service, and research in the field of psychotherapy.

6.The establishment, contributions, and final results of classical medical theories.
Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine 2013;33(1):11-20
In countries with ancient civilization of both Eastern world and Western world, after the accumulation of clinical experiences of "empirical medicine" to a sufficient amount; in accordance of their primitive philosophical thoughts, classical medical theories were established to play an important role in guiding the clinical practice of "empirical medicine". Because of the similarity of philosophical thoughts all over the ancient world, their medical theories were also very similar to each other. After the scientific evaluation and improvement, Greek classical medical theories were inherited, refined or abandoned, and then eventually finished their historical mission. Chinese classical medical theories also need the similar scientific identification and improvement for flowing into the authorized main stream of modern medical theory systems to continuously apply their guiding roles in clinical practice. Scholars would better consider the developmental principles of cultures and sciences with a historical viewpoint and an open mind to avoid making mistakes from haughty and prejudice.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2021;46(19):5130-5136
Due to the profound theoretical rationale, perfect diagnosis and treatment system, and characteristic medicinal resources, Tibetan medicine has been passed down to the present day as one of the four traditional medicine systems all over the world. With the development of modern society and the change in people's concept of seeking medical services, Tibetan medicine has gradually attracted wide attention by virtue of its natural, green and safe diagnosis and treatment characteristics, which enables it to be vigo-rously developed and inherited. There are numerous ancient books on Tibetan medicine, covering a large number of ancient prescriptions, which has laid a solid foundation for later scholars to thoroughly investigate the diagnosis and treatment rules in Tibetan medicine and apply them to modern clinical practice. Screening the classic prescriptions that meet modern clinical needs from those numerous ancient books is a new direction in the inheritance and development of Tibetan medicine. On the basis of historical origin and current application status of ancient prescriptions in Tibetan medicine, this paper preliminarily elaborated the definition of classic prescriptions of Tibetan medicine and their general screening principles and precautions, and also discussed the modern inheritance paths of classic prescriptions in Tibetan medicine from basic research, post-marketing evaluation, and the development of novel preparations. Considering the shortcomings in the present study, the key technical issues mentioned need to be more deeply explored and analyzed in future studies.

Ethnomedicine is the precious wealth left by ethnic minorities in their struggle against diseases. It is similar to traditional Chinese medicine in a narrow sense and has the characteristics of multi-component,multi-target and multi-channel synergy. Under the guidance of the theory of ethnomedicine, the combination of ethnomedicine and network pharmacology will help to understand the essence of the prevention and treatment of ethnomedicines in a dynamic and holistic manner. This paper reviews the research progress of network pharmacology applied in ethnomedicine, analyses the problems and challenges existing in the application of network pharmacology in ethnomedicine research at present, such as inaccurate data and information, lack of network analysis platform for effective analysis of dose-effect relationship of chemical constituents and weak basic research of ethnomedicine, and puts forward corresponding prospects.
