1.Health self-management club for hypertensive patients in Gushan town of Fuzhou

Objective To evaluate the impacts of health self-management club on hypertensive patients who lived in Gushan town of Fuzhou.Methods Thirty-three community hypertensive patients who partitipated in health self-management club during July and October 2010 were enrolled in this investigation.Control and awareness of high blood pressure and patients' health condition were compared before and after the intervention.Results Normal blood pressure (systolic pressure < 140 mm Hg (1 mm Hg =0.133 kPa),diastolic pressure <90 mm Hg) was found in 19 patients after intervention ((19/31 vs 16/33),x2 =1.058,P > 0.05).Meanwhile,awearness rate of normal blood pressure and mediciation order-guided drug taking was increased to 27/33 and 26/31,respectively (x2 vales were 0.047 and 1.242,respectively ; both P > 0.05).Other information inluding annual blood pressure measurement in > 35 years old populations was well known by more participants (x2 vales were 10.810,4.280,4.039,14.249,10.573and 14.539,respectively; all P< 0.05).Since intervention,blood pressure was measured at least once a month in all the subjects,and 28/31 patients measured blood pressure weekly (x2 =11.532,P < 0.05).Health condition of the patients were significantly improved after intervention (Z =-2.034,P < 0.05).Conclusions Community health education could raise patients' awareness of hypertension and improve their health condition.Health self-management club may be feasible to hypertensive patients living at rural-urban fringe.
2.Evaluation on the core competence of high vocational nursing students and the teaching strategies

Objective To investigate the core competence of the high vocational nursing students, and analyze the connections between theories and practice, as well as the weak points existing in teaching, and then propose improved teaching strategies. Methods Competency inventory for registered nurse ( CIRN) was used to investigate 234 high vocational nursing students from school of nursing of Xiamen Medical College according to cluster sampling principle in June 2016. The results of evaluation from 52 teachers of clinical practice was compared with the results of students′self-evaluation. Results According to the evaluation from teachers, the scores of critical thinking and ability of scientific research, leadership, ethical and legal practice, and educational consultation of nursing students were at a low level, and they were all lower than the scores of students′self-evaluation (t=-6.39, -9.69, -7.15, -2.79;P<0.01). Conclusions Cultivation of core competency in high vocational nursing students is inadequate. We should optimize the curriculum system, improve the teaching methods, and build the capability-support courses with the lead of nursing students′ core competence, so as to cultivate high-quality practical nursing talents that meet the clinical needs.
3.Application of bilingual supplementary teaching materials in nursing teaching

Objective To evaluate the quality and application of the Pocket Book of Bilingual Nursing Vocabulary of Fundamental Nursing Skills.Methods Anonymous questionnaire surveys were conducted among 180 nursing students (English orientation) of Nursing Department of Xiamen Medical College to investigate the application effectiveness of the Pocket Book of Bilingual Nursing Vocabulary of Fundamental Nursing Skills.The contents of questionnaire survey included:the students' views on vocabulary difficulty level,content,and layout of the textbook.A total of 180 questionnaires were distributed and 172 valid questionnaires were retrieved.Percentages were used to describe students' evaluation on the effectiveness of the textbooks.Results 89.4% of students' good evaluation of the teaching material was mainly manifested in the following aspects:large and highly targeted vocabulary by 84.9% (146/172),comprehensive and practical vocabulary by 89.0% (153/172),closely linked to nursing by 81.4% (140/172),focusing on English proficiency by 81.4% (140/172),learning aided with phonetic symbols by 93.0% (160/172) and easy memorizing with illustrated pictures by 94.8% (163/172),small and potable by 95.3% (164/172).Conclusion This teaching material is comprehensive,practical,small and portable and is an innovation of content and format with illustrated pictures,has been proved to be in bilingual nursing teaching.It also provides a positive valuable reference to teachers on the other bilingual teaching or compiling other supplementary bilingual textbooks.
