90 without intestinal canal whirl sign was used as the diagnostic standard for whirl sign. Two experienced physicians evaluated the mesenteric vessel whirl sign and its morphological characteristics(including its site, rotation direction, rotation angle, distance between the start and end points of rotating vessels, and rotation radius) and associated signs. The difference in characteristics of whirl sign was compared between volvulus and non-volvulus patients. Results Mesenteric vessel whirl sign was found in 72 out of the 626 patients, including 64(10.4% ) in volvulus group and 8(88.9% ) in non-volvulus group.Mesenteric vessel whirl sign was complicated by intestinal canal whirl sign in 8 volvulus patients, complicated by superior mesenteric artery stricture in 6 volvulus patients.Mesenteric vessel whirl sign complicated by intestinal canal whirl sign was observed in only 2 non-volvulus patients with no superior mesenteric artery stricture.A difference in rotation angle and the start and end points of rotating vessels was found between the two groups(P

Objective To study the relationship between sperm activity and the level of L-carnitine in seminal plasma of patients with idiopathic asthenospermia by HPLC.Methods Experimental group:idiopathic asthenospermia 50 cases, and the control group:male with pregnancy history 10 cases. The semen parameters (volume, sperm density, viability, motility),and L-carnitine level in seminal plasma were detected with high performance liquid chromatography method. Results There were significant difference between A and B group about sperm density and the percentage of progressive motile spermatozoa, and the level of L-carnitine(P<0.01).Conclusions The decrease of L-carnitine level in patients with idiopathic asthenospermia,is closely related to the low sperm motility, which shows that L-carnitine can be used to treat idiopathic asthenospermia effectively.

Objective To assess the additional diagnostic value of mesenteric CT angiography (MCTA) for localization of intestinal diseases detected by 64-slice helical CT. Methods Pretreatment abdominal CT data from 60 cases of intestinal diseases confirmed surgically and pathologically were analyzed retrospectively. Two radiologists blindly evaluated the images in group A (including axial and multi-plane reconstructive images) and group B (including images in group A and CT angiography). Both the localization and qualitation of intestinal diseases were evaluated by comparison of the surgical and pathological findings. Results The accuracy of localization of intestinal diseases in groups A and B was 83.3% and 98.3%, respectively. Conclusion Mesenteric CT angiography can obviously increase the accuracy in localization of intestinal diseases.

Objective To discuss the ability of 64 slices CT to display the image of peripancreatic vessels. Methods 105 patients underwent abdomen enhancement scans. The scan data of aterial phase and venous phase were reconstructed respectively, the peripancreatic vessels were displayed by means of volume rendering (VR) and multiplanar volume reconstructions (MPVR). The percentage of successful display of the peripancreatic vessels were calculated. Results ①The display frequency of the peripancreatic big arteries and veins, including celiac trunk artery(CTA), common hepatic artery (CHA), 1eft gastric artery(LGA), splenic artery (SA), gastroduodenal artery (GDA), right gastloepiploic artery(RGEA), superior mesenteric artery (SMA), portal vein(PV), superiormesenteric vein(SMV), spleenic vein (SV)was 100%. ②The display frequency of small arteries including superior pancreaticoduodenal artery (PSPDA), inferior pancreaticoduodenal artery (PIPDA), dorsal pancreatic artery (PDA), transverse pancreatic artery (PTA), pancreaticomegana artery (PMA) and caudal pancreatic artery (PCA) ranged from 43.3% to 97.20%,while of the posteriorsuperior pancreaticoduodenal vein (PSPDV) and posterior-inferior pancreaticoduodenal vein (PIPDV) was 71.4% and 30.5% respectively. ③The display frequency of the peripancreatic small vessels by the multiplanar volume reconstruction (MPVR) was higher than that of the volume rendering (VR)(P<0.05). Conclusions Multislice CT can display the peripancreatic peripancreatic vessels. Furthermore, there is a significant difference in the display frequency of the peripancreatic small vessels between the MPVR and VR reconstruction methods.

PKHD1 gene mutations are found responsible for autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD). However, it is inconvenient to detect the mutations by common polymerase chain reaction (PCR) because the open reading frame of PKHD1 is very long. Recently, long-range (LR) PCR is demonstrated to be a more sensitive mutation screening method for PKHD1 by directly sequencing. In this study, the entire PKHD1 coding region was amplified by 29 reactions to avoid the specific PCR amplification of individual exons, which generated the size of 1 to 7 kb products by LR PCR. This method was compared to the screening method with standard direct sequencing of each individual exon of the gene by a reference laboratory in 15 patients with ARPKD. The results showed that a total of 37 genetic changes were detected with LR PCR sequencing, which included 33 variations identified by the reference laboratory with standard direct sequencing. LR PCR sequencing had 100% sensitivity, 96% specificity, and 97.0% accuracy, which were higher than those with standard direct sequencing method. In conclusion, LR PCR sequencing is a reliable method with high sensitivity, specificity and accuracy for detecting genetic variations. It also has more intronic coverage and lower cost, and is an applicable clinical method for complex genetic analyses.
