1.Effect of Linghuang Powder for Acute Nonspecific Lower Urinary Tract Infection with Lower-Jiao Damp-Heat Syndrome
Traditional Chinese Drug Research & Clinical Pharmacology 1993;0(01):-
Objective: To assess the effect of Linghuang powder (LHP) in treating acute nonspecific lower urinary tract infection (ANLUTI) with lower-Jiao damp-heat syndrome and evaluate its safety. Methods: A randomized controlled design was adopted. Four hundred and fourteen patients were allocated to LHP treatment group, control group and open treatment group. Results: The markedly effective rate of short-term treatment with LHP was 71.78%, and the total effective rate was 92.02%, the total rates of improving urine routine and urine bacterium were 95.21% and 79.37% respectively in LHP treatment group. Conclusion:The effect of LHP for ANLUTI with lower-jiao damp-heat syndrome is better than that in the control group (P

Donguibogam was introduced from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) instead of the local representa-tive work of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). It is also the concrete manifestation of theories of different schools of doctors according to Dr. Xu Jun's medical thoughts. In this paper, from Dr. Xu's advocacy to Taoism and the concept of aftercare spirit, the exploration was made on health cultivation for different body constitu-tions. According to the health cultivation effects of the medicinals and edible food, the focus was made on the sys-tematic collation and induction of more than 1 400 kinds of herbs contained in the soup liquid from papers in three volumes. The medicinals were divided into eight categories, which were benefiting qi, nourishing yin, tonifying yang, clearing heat and promoting dieresis, drying dampness and resolving phlegm, promoting blood circulation for remov-ing blood stasis, dispersing stagnated liver qi, nourishing blood for hemostasis. Donguibogam specified the health cultivation concept from the correspondence between the body constitution and the medicinal performance. It has a certain guiding significance to the current health cultivation.

Objective To investigate the eye-movement features of smooth pursuit in subjects at clinical high risk for psychosis. Methods sixty subjects at clinical high risk for psychosis and sixty healthy controls were recruited. The smooth pursuit tasks were assessed in both horizontal (0.4 Hz) and Lissajous (0.2 or 0.4 Hz) condition. The Wechsler Memory Scale-third edition and spatial span subtest were used to assess working memory. The difference of the smooth pursuit performance between the two groups and the relationship between smooth pursuit and working memory were analyzed. Results Subjects at clinical high risk for psychosis showed significantly lower Horizontal components for pursuit gain [Lissajous 0.2 Hz task (0.82±0.12) vs.(0.89±0.09),Lissajous 0.4 Hz task (0.78±0.13) vs.(0.84±0.14)],lower vertical components for pursuit gain [Lissajous 0.2 Hz task (0.80±0.14) vs.(0.86±0.12),Lissajous 0.4 Hz task (0.71±0.15)vs.(0.77±0.16)] and higher mean positional error [Lissajous 0.2 Hz task (37.00±19.10) vs.(30.45± 16.18),Lissajous 0.4 Hz task (44.18±19.70) vs.(37.61±16.26)] compared to healthy controls (P<0.05).There was a significant correlation between pursuit gain and performance on Spatial Span (Horizontal components:r=0.361,P=0.005;vertical components:r=0.327,P=0.01 1) in the Subjects at clinical high risk for psychosis. Conclusions Subjects at clinical high risk for psychosis showed deficits in smooth pursuit, and the deficits were related to the working memory.

External Guide Sequences (EGSs) represents a novel nucleic acid based gene interference approach to modulate gene expression. They are oligonucleotides that consist of a sequence complementary to a target mRNA and recruit intracellular RNase P for specific degradation of the target RNA. DNA-based EGS1386 with a size of 12 nt was chemically synthesized to target the mRNA coding for the UL49 gene of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV). The DNA-based EGS1386 molecule efficiently directed human RNase P to cleave the target mRNA sequence in vitro. A reduction of more than 50% in the levels of UL49 expression was observed in human cells treated with the DNA-based EGS1386 targeted UL49 assayed by fluorescent quantization PCR and Western blotting. This results showed that the DNA-EGS1386 can effectively guide the RNase P cut the target mRNA. Therefore, DNA-EGS can develop into a new gene silencing technology and potential of the anti-viral reagents.
