1.Research progress of programmed cell death 1 and its receptor programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 in the pathogenesis of eye diseases
Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2021;39(5):464-468
Programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) is an important negative costimulatory molecule discovered in recent years, which is expressed on the surface of T and B cells and plays an important role in the regulation of cellular immune response and immune tolerance. After the combination of PD-1 and its receptor programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (PD-L1), negative regulatory signals are transmitted to suppress the immune response.Under the activation of stimulating factors, PD-1 and PD-L1 are combined to weaken the conduction of downstream signaling pathways such as PI3K/Akt and ERK through recruitment of phosphorylated SHP2, thereby inhibiting the proliferation of T cells and the production of cytokines, inhibiting the immune response and participating in the occurrence and development of a large number of inflammatory diseases.PD-1 in the field of ophthalmology research is still in its infancy. As far as we know, PD-1 participates in ocular inflammatory diseases such as uveitis, sympathetic ophthalmia, allergic conjunctivitis, also is involved in corneal transplant rejection, optic nerve crush injury and optic myelitis, diabetic retinopathy, thyroid related ophthalmopathy, melanoma and other diseases, thus preventing the interactions between PD-1 and its receptor PD-L1 may become a new potential target for the treatment of ocular tumor, inflammation, autoimmune and neurodegeneration disease. In this article, the latest research progress of PD-1 and its receptor PD-L1 in the pathogenesis of ocular diseases were reviewed.

OBJECTIVE:To summarize the materials, design, fit-shape and fixation techniques and clinical application of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) prosthesis.DATA SOURCES: An online search was undertaken to identify English articles about TMJ prosthesis published in Pubmed database from January 1998 to December 2006 using the key words of "temporomandibular joint, joint prosthesis".STUDY SELECTION: The collected literatures about TMJ prosthesis were sorted, and those with good pertinence were selected. For the literatures of the same field, those published recently or in authorized journals were selected.DATA EXTRACTION: Totally 69 literatures were collected, 28 were enrolled, and the other 41 were excluded, including 23 were irrelative with the aim of this study, and 18 were repetitive studies.DATA SYNTHESIS: Joint prosthesis is one of the fields that develop the fastest in orthopedic surgery in recent 30 years.TMJ replacement aims to enhance the function of TMJ, alleviate pain, and prevent serious complication. With the rapid developments of material science, tissue engineering, joint biomechanics and other related subjects, TMJ prosthesis has been significantly improved in the materials, design, fit-shape and fixation techniques. People have developed from simply imitating the outline form and mechanical motor of TMJ to pay more attention to its pathological function. It is very significant to trace the new progress in hip prosthesis and knee joint, and apply the good outcomes in the design and manufacture of TMJ prosthesis.CONCLUSION: Prosthetic material plays leading and promoting roles in the development of joint prosthesis, good design,fit-shape and fixation are the necessary conditions for prosthesis to act its role, and it is also necessary to investigate joint biomechanics. TMJ prosthesis should be further investigated, and it has good prospect.

Chinese Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism 2011;27(7):594-598
Objective To investigate the protective effect of folic acid(FA) on osteoporosis in ovariectomized(OVX) rats. Methods Forty three-month-old female SD Rats were divided into 5 groups, sham operation group, OVX group, diethylstilbestrol group(0.03mg·kg-1·d-1),low dose FA Group (5 mg·kg-1·d-1),and high dose FA group (20 mg·kg-1·d-1).Gastric gavage in each group was started from one week after being ovariectomized and lasted 10 weeks. Sham operation group and OVX group were treated with solvent. The rats were sacrificed at the end of 10th week after treatment. The total homocysteine(tHcy) in plasma, alkaline phosphatase(ALP), and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase(TRACP) activity of bone homogenates were measured. The bone mineral density(BMD) and bone biomechanics were determined using L5 vertebrae and right femur. The bone tissue slices were made with L6 vertebrae and left femur and HE stained, and then the histomorphology was observed. Results Compared with sham operation group, plasma tHcy level was significantly increased(P<0.01), BMD of lumbar vertebrae and femur was remarkedly decreased in OVX group(all P<0.01). Plasma tHcy concentration was negatively correlated with lumbar BMD(r=-0.359, P=0.040). Plasma tHcy level in both groups treated with folic acid was significantly reduced(all P<0.01). The ALP concentration in bone homogenates was higher, the TRACP concentration in bone homogenates was lower, and BMD and bone biomechanics of lumbar vertebrae and femur were increased in high dose FA group than those in OVX group(all P <0.01). Conclusions In OVX rats hyperhomocysteinemia existed and was involved in the development of osteoporosis. Folic acid could protect OVX rats from osteoporosis, due probably to improved homocysteine metabolism.
