The study of 122 children were rickets from 1 - 6 month old at Hai Phong Children Hospital from 2002 to 2003. The results: the most of mothers were in shortage of knowledge in rickets. There were many risk factors: mothers keeping their child from sunlight after birth, mothers on diet for the first 3 months, solid food complement before 4 months. Frequent signs of rickets were crying all the time, perspiration, alopecia. Hypocalcemia was found in 80.33%

2.Research on adaptation and cloning of rgh5n1 vaccine reference strain to vero cells

Background: As avian influenza A/H5N1 epidemic spreads rapidly, many corporations, vaccine manufacturers in cooperation with laboratories around the world has conducted research and developed H5N1 vaccine for both humans and poultry. Objective: Evaluate the adaptation and cloning of rgh5n1 vaccine reference strain to vero cells in order to produce master seed virus and working seed virus. Subject and Method: The reverse genetics derived A/H5N1 virus strain (rgH5N1) was studied for adaptation to Vero cells by serial passage. It has been shown that the rgH5N1 strain can be propagated in Vero cells and cause CPE with the highest virus titer 1010,9 PFU/ml at Vero passage 15. The rgH5N1 strain was cloned by using plaque purification method and passaged to obtain a high stable virus titer. Conclusion: The reverse genetics derived A/H5N1 virus strain was propagated in Vero cells. Master seed virus and working seed virus were obtained at passage 6.

3.The value of urocytogramme in normal menstruation period of adolescent girls

Background:The urocytogramme is a certain laboratory tests, although older. By studying the cellular elements from the wall of the bladder trigone desquamated in the urine, it allows cyto-hormonal diagnosis. It allows to assess the presence and importance of the biological effect of sex steroids. This examination is not commonly used because they are poorly known in our country. It's a review of how simple, noninvasive, inexpensive. Objectives:This study aims to learn about the value of urocytogramme in normal menstruation period of girls. Subjects and method:A study was conducted on 143 high school girls of Hai Ba Trung Secondary School, Hue city. The mean age was 15\xb18 months, completely puberty; the average weight was 45.7\xb16.8 kg; average height was 156.8 \xb18.5 cm. The duration of study was from September 2006 to May 2007. Results:Urocytogramme had the index which changed according to the phase of the menstrual cycle and correlated closely with sex hormone concentrations in the ovulatory phase. The IK index had the value in ovulation diagnostic phase with the sensitivity and specificity concentrations equivalent to LH and plasma Estradiol. Conclusion:Urocytogram was a useful test for the diagnosis of in normal menstruation period of adolescent girls. It was easy, cheap and truly reflected oestrogen activity to help doctors making decision for the treatment of lasting amenorrhea disorders.

4.Study of the mutation of the CCR5 and SDF1 gene in the HIV-1 infected mothers and their children

Background: HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is the virus that causes AIDS. This virus is passed from one person to another through blood-to-blood and sexual contact. In addition, infected pregnant women can pass HIV to their baby during pregnancy or delivery, as well as through breast-feeding. Objectives:To study the CCR5- 32 and SDF 1-3 A allelic frequence in the HIV -1 infected mothers and their children. Subjects and method: Amplificated on CCR5 and SDF1 gene by PCR and restriction of this fragment length polymorphisme (RLFP) assay for detection of the mutated gene by EcoR1 and Hpall. Results: No mutation of CCR5 was found but only mutation identified at the SDF1 gene. Mutation identified at the SDF1 gene of the mother was: homozygote 2.7% (accounted for 2/37 cases), heterozygote 40.54% (accounted for 15/37 cases) and at the children: homozygote 5.4% (accounted for 1/37 cases), heterozygote 45.95% (accounted for 17/37 cases). The CCR5 chemokin receptor is a co-receptor for M trofic HIV-1 strains, which predominate in the early stage of the HIV disease and SDF-1 natural ligand for the CXCR4 reception. 5.Expression of Heparansulfate Interacting Protein (HIP) in benign prostatic hyperplasia,prostate intraepithelial neoplasia and prostate cancer

Background: Heparansulfate Interacting Protein (HIP) is up-regulated in various human cancer cell lines at both transcript and protein levels. HIP expression is related to the differentiation status and cancer development. Objectives: To determine HIP in benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia and prostate cancer tissues. Materials and method: Western blot method was used to determine HIP expression in 3 different types of prostate tissue, including 11 prostate cancer samples, 2 benign prostatic hyperplasia samples and 11 prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia samples. Results. HIP was particularly up-regulated in prostate cancer and prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia, indicating that up-regulation of HIP expression may be an early event in tumorgenesis. Conclusion: The expression of HIP was different between cancer, prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia tissue and benign prostatic hyperplasia. HIP may serve as a prognostic marker for prostate carcinoma.

6.HCV Infection in Young male drug users in Hanoi in 2007

Introduction: Hepatitis C is a dangerous disease and if left untreated can have serious consequences to the patients. While hepatitis C is difficult to treat, its vaccine is still unavailable. Previous studies have showed that there is a low rate of drug users having HCV tests. This means HCV infections does not have any great importance attached to it amongst the drug user group.\r\n', u'Objectives: To discover the status of HCV infection among drug users in Hanoi and to analyse the associated factors. \r\n', u'Subjects and methods: This crossover descriptive study was conducted in Hanoi. Research objects consisted of only men within the 16 - 25 years old age group, who used heroin from 09/2005 to 12/2006. These participants were interviewed and tested for HIV, HCV and HBV.\r\n', u'Results: HCV prevalence is 35.1 %. Especially, the research has indicated that 100% of HIV infected cases have also contracted HCV. This co - infectious status can be a challenge to subjects when they experience ARV treatment. The mean age of surveyed participants is 19. 83.6% of them have attended secondary school. 30.1 % have taken part in illegal earning activities. \r\n', u'Conclusion: HCV infection was discovered in the early drug injection stage. 7.Cloning of the gene encoding human recombinant blood \u2013 coagulation factor WIII

Background: Hemophilia A is a genetic bleeding disorder that results from a deficiency in factor VIII. The prevalence of Hemophilia in Vietnam is rather high (2/34830 people) and Vietnam has high usage demand for factor VIII in the treatment and prevention of the disease. Therefore, it is necessary to study and produce recombinant blood \u2013 coagulation factor WIII. Objective: To clone successfully A1A2 and A3C2 gen fragment encoding factor VIII. Subject and Method: Amplify A1A2 and A3C2 gene fragments by PCR from human cDNA. PCR products were ligated into cloning vector pQE \u2013 30UA. Recombinant plasmids were transformed into E.coli DH5 alpha host strain. Inserted A1A2 and A3C2 gene fragments were checked by PCR and restriction enzymes. Result: Successfully amplifying functional gene fragments encoding factor VIII using specific primers. Conclusion: Obtaining pQE \u2013 30UA vector carrying A1A2 and A3C2 fragments encoding factor VIII. This is the premise result for the next studies on synthesis of recombinant factor WIII and application of genetic therapy.

8.Penicillium vietnamense sp. nov., the First Novel Marine Fungi Species Described from Vietnam with a Unique Conidiophore Structure and Molecular Phylogeny of Penicillium Section Charlesia

Penicillium vietnamense sp. nov. was isolated from Nha Trang Bay, Vietnam in June 2017. It is phylogenetically distinct from the sister species of Penicillium section Charlesia series Indica based on multi-locus sequence typing results using internal transcribed spacer, large subunit ribosomal RNA, β-tubulin, calmodulin, and RNA polymerase II second largest subunit regions. It showed strong growth on Czapek yeast autolysate agar at 37 C, a strong acid production on Creatine sucrose agar, and produced short stipes, small vesicles, and subglobose to globose conidia delicately roughened with very short ridges. As the first novel marine fungi species described from Vietnam and discovered in a unique environment, the data could be significant for understanding the taxonomy and geographical distribution of marine fungi in tropical coastal systems such as Vietnam.
9.Anticancer effects of saponin and saponin-phospholipid complex of Panax notoginseng grown in Vietnam

Objective: To evaluate the antitumor activity both in vitro and in vivo of saponin–phospholipid complex of Panax notoginseng. Methods: The in vitro cytotoxic effect of saponins extract and saponin–phospholipid complex against human lung cancer NCI-H460 and breast cancer cell lines BT474 was examined using MTS assay. For in vivo evaluation of antitumor potential, saponin and saponin–phospholipid complex were administered orally in rats induced mammary carcinogenesis by 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene, for 30 days. Results: Our data showed that saponin–phospholipid complex had stronger anticancer effect compared to saponin extract. The IC50 values of saponin–phospholipid complex and saponin extract for NCI-H460 cell lines were 28.47μg/mL and 47.97μg/mL, respectively and these values for BT474 cells were 53.18μg/mL and 86.24μg/mL, respectively. In vivo experiments, administration of saponin, saponin–phospholipid complex and paclitaxel (positive control) effectively suppressed 7,12-dimethylbenz(a) anthracene-induced breast cancer evidenced by a decrease in tumor volume, the reduction of lipid peroxidation level and increase in the body weight, and elevated the enzymatic antioxidant activities of su-peroxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase in rat breast tissue. Conclusions: Our study suggests that saponin extract from Panax notoginseng and saponin–phospholipid complex have potential to prevent cancer, especially breast cancer.
10.Development of Monoclonal Antibodies That Target 1-Cys Peroxiredoxin and Differentiate Plasmodium falciparum from P. vivax and P. knowlesi

Prompt and accurate diagnosis of malarial patients is a crucial factor in controlling the morbidity and mortality of the disease. Effective treatment decisions require a correct diagnosis among mixed-species malarial patients. Differential diagnosis is particularly important in cases of Plasmodium vivax, a species that shares endemicity with P. falciparum in most endemic areas. Moreover, it is difficult to identify P. knowlesi on the basis of morphology alone, and rapid diagnostic tests are still not available for this malaria species. Therefore, the development of diagnostic tests applicable to the field is urgently needed. 1-Cys peroxiredoxin (1-Cys-Prx) in P. falciparum is abundantly expressed in the mature asexual stages, making it a promising candidate as a diagnostic antigen. In this study, we produced five monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against P. falciparum 1-Cys-Prx (Pf1-Cys-Prx) by immunizing BALB/c mice with recombinant Pf1-Cys-Prx and subsequent hybridoma production. Cross reactivity of established mAbs with the orthologous molecule of Pf1-Cys-Prx in P. vivax (Pv1-Cys-Prx) and P. knowlesi (Pk1-Cys-Prx) was examined. Western blot analyses showed that three mAbs reacted with Pv1-Cys-Prx and Pk1-Cys-Prx but two mAbs did not. These results indicate that the two mAbs were effective in differentiating P. falciparum from P. vivax and P. knowlesi and could be used in differential diagnosis as well as comparative molecular studies of human Plasmodium species.
