Objective To evaluate the clinical outcome of total hip arthroplasty (THA) for protrusio acetabuli. Methods Between 2003 to 2008, 31 patients(35 hips) with protrusio acetabuli were treated with THA, including 16 males (18 hips) and 15 females (17 hips). The age ranged from 36 to 71 years (average age 52.2 years). The femoral heads were moved out with retrograde method when necessary via posterior-lateral hip incision. The acetabular loops and bottoms were prepared respectively. Auto-bone grafting was used to repair acetabular defects and cementless prostheses were planted with press-fit skills. At follow-up visit, the hip functions were evaluated by Harris score. The loosening, re-protrusion and the union of graft bone was judged by X-ray. Results The mean follow-up was 46.5 months (19-152 months). One patient developed DVT on the second day post-operatively who recovered well after anticoagulation treatment. One patient complained of gentle thigh pain which disappeared at 6 months. No other complication was found. The mean Harris scores had improved from 48.9±6.5 pre-operatively to 91.2±5.7 post-operatively. All prostheses acquired bone stabilization with no sign of loosening and re-protrusion and the grafts bone were healed at a mean 6 months according to X-ray. Conclusion THA with acetabular bone grafting and cementless component for protrusio acetabuli have acquired excellent results and prevented loosening and re-protrusio effectively.

Objective To investigate the immunoregulatory effects of bone marrow-derived mesenehy-real stem ceils (BMSCs) combined with leflunomide (LEF) on mice T-lymphocytes in vitro. Methods BMSCs from BALB/c mice were isolated and expanded. The purity of BMSCs was identified by flow cytometry (FCM). The BALB/c mice's spleen lymphocytes were isolated by using EZ-Sep<'TM> Mouse 1X. Under ConA stimulation, spleen lymphocytes were pretreated with LEF, then washed and co-cuhured with BMSCs. We set up four groups to investigate in this study: group A, spleen lymphocytes alone; group B, spleen lymphocytes with BM- SCs; group C, LEF-pretreated spleen lymphocytes alone and the group D, LEF-pretreated spleen lymphocytes with BMSCs. T-lymphocytes proliferation was assessed by MTT. FCM was used to analysis T-lymphocytes apoptosis and surface markers of CD69 and CD28. The mRNA expression of interleukin (IL)-2, IL-10 were detected by real-time RT-PCR. Results In vitro, the T-lymphocytes'values of A570 nm were significantly lower in group B and group C, compared with group A (group B vs group C vs group A, 0.578±0.042 vs 0.502± 0.040 vs 0.778±0.035, P<0.01), while the value of A<,570 nm>in group D was 0.218±0.033, which was also obviously lower than that in group B and group C (P<0.01). There were no suppressing effects on T-lympho-cytes'activation and expression of IL-2 had been observed. The proportion of apoptotic T-lymphocytes in group B and group D were (2.29±0.32)% and (4.22±0.98)%, which was significandy lower than that in group A (8.08±1.20) (P<0.01). The expression of IL-10 in group B and C were also lower than that in group A (group B vs group C vs group A, 0.098±0.039 vs 0.054±0.022 vs 1.000, P<0.01 ). Either, the expression of IL-10 in group D was 0.023±0.015, which was obviously lower than that in group B and group C (P<0.01). Conclusion BMSCs combined with LEF show synergistic immunoregulatary effects on mice's T-lymphoeytes.

BACKGROUNDTenidap is a liposoluble non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is easily distributed in the central nervous system and also inhibits the production and activity of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and cytokines in vitro. This study aimed to evaluate the neuroprotective effect of tenidap in a pilocarpine rat model of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE).
METHODSTenidap was administered daily at 10 mg/kg for 10 days following pilocarpine-induced status epilepticus (SE) in male Wistar rats after which prolonged generalized seizures resulted in TLE. After tenidap treatment, spontaneous recurrent seizures (SRSs) were recorded by video monitoring (for 7 hours per day for 14 days). The frequency and severity of the SRSs were observed. Histological and immunocytochemical analyses were used to evaluate the neuroprotective effect of tenidap and detect COX-2 expression, which may be associated with neuronal death.
RESULTSThere were 46.88 ± 10.70 survival neurons in tenidap-SE group, while there were 27.60 ± 5.18 survival neurons in saline-SE group at -2.4 mm field in the CA3 area. There were 37.75 ± 8.78 survival neurons in tenidap-SE group, while there were 33.40 ± 8.14 survival neurons in saline-SE group at -2.4 mm field in the CA1 area. Tenidap treatment significantly reduced neuronal damage in the CA3 area (P < 0.05) and slightly reduced damage in the CA1 area. Tenidap markedly inhibited COX-2 expression in the hippocampus, especially in the CA3 area.
CONCLUSIONTenidap conferred neuroprotection to the CA3 area in a pilocarpine-induced rat model of TLE by inhibiting COX-2 expression.

BACKGROUNDTo investigate the prevalence of anti-HEV among swine, sheep and chickens.
METHODSTotally 498 sera of swine, sheep and chickens collected from Xingjiang, Guangxi, Guangdong, Beijing and Hebei were detected for the anti-HEV by an enzyme linked immunoassay.
RESULTSThe anti-HEV positive rate of swine was 67.53%(104/154), in pigs between 4-5 months of age the rate was 100.00%(9/9) from Xingjiang. The rate in pigs under 3 months of age from Guangxi was 36.00%(9/25) and in pigs older than six months of age was 71.67% (86/120), respectively. The 108 sera of sheep collected from Xingjiang were all negative. The positive rate of chickens was only 1.27% (3/236). The anti-HEV prevalence rates of chickens from Luoding, Shenzhen, Liuzhou, Beijing and Hebei were 4.00%, 1.49%, 1.49%, 0, 0 respectively.
CONCLUSIONHEV infection does exist among swine and chickens. The anti-HEV prevalence of swine was the highest among domestic animals. The role of swine and chickens in transmission of HEV needs to be further studied.
