Topic of the conference was evaluation of attitude and competence of candidates on the entrance examination, and concrete procedures of interview, essay test and so on and notes for assessing process were discussed.Further improvement in the method of interview and essay test and the standardization of their assessment and clarification of the validity of these tools by accumulation of their follow-up data were important.
2.Apicoaortic Conduit for Aortic Valve Stenosis after Coronary Bypass Grafting

The patient was a 74-year-old man with a history of previous aorto-coronary bypass grafting 14 years previously. Echocardiography showed severe aortic valve stenosis. Computed tomography showed severe circumferential aortic calcification of the whole aorta, including the aortic root. Coronary cineangiography showed patency of the endoric graft. Avoiding graft injury and aortic cross clamping, we performed apicoaortic conduit. His postoperative course was uneventful, he was discharged very much improved on the 11th postoperative day. This procedure is useful in high risk patients with aortic valve stenosis.
3.Teaching about Kampo Medicine in Foreign Countries Via a Web-based Virtual Class

1) Although many people all over the world are aware of traditional Chinese medicine, kampo medicine is not as well known. Kampo, traditional Japanese herbal medicine, is an integral part of medical practice in Japan and deserves greater attention. 2) In response to increasing interest in kampo we have created a web-based virtual class as a reliable source for information about kampo medicine. This virtual class incorporates the latest data on kampo and numerous features to pro- mote a basic understanding of kampo. 3) Through this website and virtual class for health professionals, knowledge of the reliability, usefulness, and safety of kampo will be shared with the world.
4.Education about kampo medicine at Keio University Medical School

1) For third-year students at Keio University Medical School, 10 lectures are given about why kampo medicine is effective, Fourth-year students receive 8 lectures on kampo medicine and participate in independent study sessions 3 times a week for 4 months.
2) In lectures entitled “Why Is kampo Medicine Effective?”we introduce the functional mechanism of action of kampo medicine and address the skepticism of medical students. In the lecture series entitled “Kampo Medicine, ”we introduce the clinical foundations of kampo practice and provide students with a checklist of the key points of each lecture.
3) In the independent study sessions, several students perform mentored basic-science research into kampo's mechanism of action.
5.Effects of repetitious intense exercise training on resting salivary IgA.

It is generally accepted that secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) is a major effector of local immunity in the oral cavity. The salivary sIgA level is known to be temporarily decreased after an acute single bout of intense exercise. On the other hand, the effect of continuous exercise training on salivary sIgA has been controversial. In the present study, we collected timed saliva samples from collegiate kendoists using the reliable saliva collection method that has already been reported. The collection was performed before, during and after a traditional high-intensity 10-day training camp during the coldest part of the winter. We investigated the effect of repetitious intense exercise training on resting sIgA levels in saliva.
The subjects were 19 males and 8 females (age: 19.9±0.5 years) who took part in the camp. We obtained saliva samples before the camp, on the first and the 10th days of the camp, and 4 and 10 days after the camp at 5 p. m. The concentration of sIgA was measured by ELISA, and the sIgA secretion rate was calculated.
The resting sIgA secretion rate decreased significantly during the camp. It remained at a lower level 4 and 10 days after the camp compared to the initial level, although it tended to recover gradually. Prolonged suppression of the resting sIgA secretion rate during a traditional winter kendo training camp might be induced by repetition of high-intensity training.
6.Consensus Statement; Integrating professionalism education into undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education

1)Professionalism should be explicitly introduced as a fundamental content into curricula/programs of undergraduate medical education, postgraduate clinical training, and of continuing medical education provided by professional societies and the Japan Medical Association.
2)We need to enhance our research activities on goals and objectives which should be accomplished through professionalism education, effective learning strategies, appropriate assessment methods, as well as the impact of informal and hidden curricula.
3)We propose that the medical profession should collaboratively develop various activities to win the trust of the general society in tandem with the introduction of professionalism education.

1)The Keio ACLS Popularizing and Promoting Association (KAPPA) is an official student organization that promotes advanced life support techniques.
2)KAPPA has provided 29 advanced cardiac life support courses, including 20 official ICLS (immediate cardiac life support) courses of the Japanese Association for Acute Medicine, which have trained 314 ICLS providers and 61 ICLS instructors during the past 8 years.
3)Peer–led training among students to maintain the quality of the courses has contributed to the activities of KAPPA.
