1.Experience in Dealing with Infection Complications of Tissue Expanders

OBJECTIVE To review our experience with tissue expanders infection and how to treat it.METHODS Totally 168 patients were treated from Sep 2002 to Oct 2006.The relative infection complications were defined as operative plan was only partially satisfied,sometimes implying poor surgical judgment.RESULTS There were 43 cases with infection in the process of installing expanders.Though by proper treatment only 9 patients were with unsatisfied effect.The others had better result.CONCLUSIONS The reasons that cause tissue expander derived infection is complex,we must be carefully to do the operation.
2.Repeated expansion of skin tissues:clinical,biomechanical and histological studies

Objective To summarize the experiences of repeated expansion surgery,to evaluate the changes of skin histological and biomeehanical properties,and to afford rationale for its application and popularization.Methotis Skin soft tissues were repeatedly expanded to repair the massive skin defection.All the 31 cases were divided into children group and adult group according to their ages.In each group the treatment experiences were summarized.The biomechanical and pathological properties were investigated and compared after samples had been made.Resuits A total of 31 cases were treated by serial tissue expansion.Complication incidences of every expanded procedure were 10%and 17%respectively.After 6-12months postoperative follow-up,most of the curative effects were satisfactory.The repeated expanded skin had lower enlarged rate,depressed stress-relaxation and stress-strength character,so was the deceased proliferation of the epidermal cells.The changes were significant in the adult group.Conclusions Repeated expansion is a feasible method of repairing the massive skin defection.Its curative effect is more satisfactory in children than adult.Due to the increase of the risk and skin quality decline,enough attention must be paid in clinical application.
3.The relationship between retinoic acid receptor-β expression and chemotherapy response in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

Objective To observe the relationship between expression of retinoic acid receptor-β (RAR-β) in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and chemotherapy response. Methods Fifty-two cases advanced ESCC patients treated by DDP and 5-FU, DDP 80 mg/m2, divided into 5 days;5-FU 375 mg/m2, dl-5. Immunohistochemistry was used to exmine the expression of RAR-β in ESCC. Fifty cases normal esophageal tissue were used as controls. Results RAR-β immunoreactivity was recognizd in both cytoplasm and nucleus, RAR-β positive rate was lower in ESCC compared with normal tissue (61.5%vs 92% ,P <0. 05 ). The 52 cases ESCC patients were treated 228 chemotherapy cycles, the overall response rate (OR) was 71.2%. The OR in RAR-β positive patients was 84. 4% (27/32), significant higher than RAR-β negative patients 50. 0% ( 10/20 ) ( P < 0. 05 ). The time-to-progression ( TTP ) for RAR-β positive patients was 5.9 months, the median survival period was 12. 1 months, 2 years survival rate was 56. 7%;whereas TTP for RAR-β negative patients was 2. 1 months, the median survival period was 5.8 months,2 years survival rate was 32. 9%. There was signifcant difference between the 2 groups ( P < 0. 05 ) .Conclusion RAR-β protein expression by immunohistochemistry may be a useful indicator to predict the chemotherapy response and clinical outcome for ESCC, meanwhile it may be an avenue for target therapy.
4.Efficacy of Diphenyleneiodonium Chloride (DPIC) Against Diverse Plant Pathogens

Many of the fungicides and antibiotics currently available against plant pathogens are of limited use due to the emergence of resistant strains. In this study, we examined the effects of diphenyleneiodonium chloride (DPIC), an inhibitor of the superoxide producing enzyme NADPH oxidase, against fungal and bacterial plant pathogens. We found that DPIC inhibits fungal spore germination and bacterial cell proliferation. In addition, we demonstrated the potent antibacterial activity of DPIC using rice heads infected with the bacterial pathogen Burkholderia glumae which causes bacterial panicle blight (BPB). We found that treatment with DPIC reduced BPB when applied during the initial flowering stage of the rice heads. These results suggest that DPIC could serve as a new and useful antimicrobial agent in agriculture.

5.Identification of Genes Related to Fungicide Resistance in Fusarium fujikuroi.

We identified two genes related to fungicide resistance in Fusarium fujikuroi through random mutagenesis. Targeted gene deletions showed that survival factor 1 deletion resulted in higher sensitivity to fungicides, while deletion of the gene encoding F-box/WD-repeat protein increased resistance, suggesting that the genes affect fungicide resistance in different ways.

6.B-ultrasonic image characteristics of fetus with congential cleft palate within pregnant goat's uterus

Objective To study the dynamic blood character .of pregnant goat's uterus based on pregnant hybrid boer goats and B-ultrasound tompography .Methods Fourty boer hybrid goats were involved in our experiment ,aged from 8 m to 12 m ,and weighted from 35 kg to 55 kg .Mating day was defined as 0 d ;at 30 d goats was assured pregnant by B type ultrasonic test ,and they were sepa-rated into two groups .Test group had anabasine muscle injected from 31 d to 42 d with 15 mg/d to form cleft palate ;control group (20 goats) had no treatment .At pregnant 60 d ,all pregnant goats were examined by B type ultrasonic test .Results Three goats of test group had aborted ;test group had 17 goats and control group had 20 goats .At pregnant 60 day ,there was the significant difference (P < 0 .05) in mean velocity and total blood amount ,but no statistical difference (P > 0 .05) in other index between the two groups .Conclusions The uterine blood amount and mean velocity are increased in prognant goats with cleft palate fetus compared with normal pregnant goat ,suggesting anabasine may have other functions including teratogenicity .
