Sleep deprivation refers to the loss of sleep caused by self-inflicted or external factors. There is increasing evidence that pregnancy is prone to sleep deprivation, which not only disrupts maternal functions but also affects offspring′s cognitive function. This article reviews the effects of sleep deprivation during pregnancy on offspring cognition and its underlying mechanisms, in order to establish a foundation for developing scientifically sound sleep strategies during pregnancy and to provide clinical insights for improving the neurodevelopment and cognitive function of offspring.

BACKGROUNDNumerous studies have demonstrated that the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPARγ) plays an important role in regulating endothelial progenitor cells (EPC) function. Telmisartan, as a partial agonist of PPARγ, may have an effect on the regulation of EPC functions. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of telmisartan on EPC proliferation and differentiation.
METHODSPeripheral blood derived mononuclear cells containing EPC were isolated from healthy volunteers and then cultured on fibronectin-coated dishes in the presence or absence of telmisartan. The proliferative activity of EPC was determined by colony forming units (CFU) and MTT assay. The migratory activity of EPC was assessed by transwell assay. The expression of endothelial cells (EC) markers, including vascular endothelial cadherin (VE-cadherin), von Willebrand factor (vWF) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), were measured by Western blotting analysis.
RESULTSMorphological analysis revealed that telmisartan significantly increased the proliferation of EPC and the number of endothelial cell colony forming units. Telmisartan could enhance the expression of the makers of mature EC, including VE-cadherin, vWF, and eNOS, which indicated telmisartan could stimulate EPC to differentiate into mature EC. Telmisartan increased the phosphorylation of Akt in EPC. The inhibition of Akt activation significantly attenuated the effect of telmisartan on EPC functions, suggesting that Akt is involved in the stimulatory effect of telmisartan on EPC differentiation.
CONCLUSIONSThe results of this study demonstrate that telmisartan promotes EPC functions via activation of Akt.

Ethylene regulates sex expression in cucumber plants (Cucumis sativus L.). ACC synthase is a key factor during the ethylene biosynthesis. Pairs of PCR primers were synthesized corresponding to the conserved sequences of ACC synthase gene family. The 1 188 bp DNA fragment of ACC synthase gene (CS-ACS2) was amplified from genomic DNA of 8 different sexual phenotypes of cucumber respectively (GenBank accession number is DQ115884~DQ115886 and DQ115875~DQ115879). 8 SNPs have been identified by sequences analysis between 3 monoecious lines and 5 subgynoecious lines and gynoecious lines, which including 4 A←→G and 4 T←→C transition. Of these 8 SNPs, one locus is in intron and 7 loci in exons. Of the 7 SNPs located in exons, 3 SNPs are non-coding SNPs and 4 SNPs are coding SNPs (cSNPs) of which 3 induced changes of encoding amino acid of ACC synthase. The results of SNPs from subgynoecious lines and gynoecious lines suggest that single nucleotide mutation events of CS-ACS2 might be correlated with the development of subgynoecious lines and gynoecious lines in cucumber. Furthermore, CAPS marker C-MT705 was developed for identifying elite subgynoecious cultivar MT-705, which could be valuable in cucumber breeding. Besides, the SNPs and CAPS markers obtained in the study enriched molecular markers of cucumber.
7. Ultrasonic features of complete uterine rupture in pregnant women
Chinese Journal of Medical Imaging Technology 2020;36(3):439-443
Objective: To observe the ultrasonic features of complete uterine rupture in pregnant women. Methods: Clinical data and ultrasonic features of 12 complete uterine rupture patients confirmed by surgical operation were retrospectively analyzed. Results: The past medical histories included uterine surgical operation in 9 cases, unreasonable application of drug induced labor in 2 cases and pelvic stenosis in 2 cases. The ultrasonic findings of complete uterine rupture were as follows. ①Interrupted continuity of uterine muscle wall, local echo was disordered, fetus and appendages located in uterine cavity, with different amount of peritoneal effusion. ②Interrupted continuity of uterine muscle wall, the fetus and appendages partially located in the uterine cavity and partially expelled into the abdominal cavity with different amount of peritoneal effusion. ③Empty uterus, the fetus within the amniotic sac was totally expelled into the abdominal cavity with different amount of peritoneal effusion. Combined with hematoma of broad ligament, the continuity of uterine muscle wall was interrupted, and there was no capsule in the disordered echo area with unclear boundary and irregular shape in the abdominal cavity, which was connected with abnormal echo area of uterine muscle wall. Among 12 patients of complete uterine rupture, 6 (6/12, 50.00%) cases were correctly diagnosed with ultrasound, while 4 (4/12, 33.33%) cases were suspected and 2 (2/12, 16.67%) cases were misdiagnosed. Conclusion: Ultrasonic manifestations of complete uterine rupture have certain characteristics. Ultrasound can be used as the first choice of imaging Methods: to observe the type, location, size of uterine rupture and abdominal effusion.
