Objective To explore the role of medial temporal lobe (MTL) structure in generating P 300.Methods Event-related potentials (ERPs) were performed in the patient following left lateral anterior temporal lobectomy and 17 health subjects. Two models of vision and auditus were involved in the study. Results The latency, amplitude and sideway distribution of auditory and visual P 300 were in the normal range gained from the healthy controls. Conclusion MTL structure may be not important in generating scalp P 300.

Objective To study the correlations of the concentration of WBC count,CRP and ESR in the course of Mycoplas-ma pneumoniae (MP)pneumonia and to provide laboratory basis for the use of the hormone. Methods The WBC count, CRP and ESR test results of MP pneumonia patients with hospital diagnosed from Jan 2008 to Dec 2012 were analyzed retro-spectively.Results The WBC,CRP and ESR were significantly higher in patients with extrapulmonary complications in-duced by mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP)pneumonia, chest X-ray showed large sheet density shadow or the glucocorticoids user, than those who with no extrapulmonary complications, chest X-ray showed patchy or ground-galss opacities and not u-sing glucocorticoids (P<0.05).Conclusion When the WBC,CRP and ESR were significantly higher in patients rule out bacterial infection induced by mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP)pneumonia, can using glucocorticoid therapy as early as possi-ble.

Objective To report a family with lipoid proteinosis (LP) from Shandong province and to analyze mutations in the extracellular matrix protein 1 (ECM1) gene in this family. Methods Eight members in a threegeneration family with LP were clinically investigated, and two patients were identified to suffer from LP,including the proband (Ⅲ 1) and her mother (Ⅱ 2).Both of the patients presented with papules on the palpebral margin, short and thick lingual frenum, and hoarseness.Indirect laryngoscopy showed infiltrating and thickening of the vocal cord.Pathological examination of lesions on the palpebral margin and laryngeal mucosa revealed deposits of hyaline-like material in the dermis, which was strongly positive for periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) staining and resistant to diastase digestion. The pathological diagnosis was LP.Blood samples were collected from all the family members and 100 ethnically matched, unrelated and unaffected Chinese human controls followed by DNA extraction.PCR and sequencing were performed to detect the ECM1 gene, and nested PCR followed by agarose gel electrophoresis to analyze mutations in the coding region of the ECM1 gene. Results Both of the two patients were compound heterozygotes.Three missense mutations, incluing p.P169T,p.A44T and p.R392W,were found in the ECM1 gene of the affected mother, with p.P169T in one allele and p.A44T as well as p.R392W in the other. The girl patient inheried the missence mutation p.P169T from her mother and a synonymous mutation c.879G > A from her father (Ⅱ 1).Nested PCR showed that the c.978G > A mutation generated a splice-acceptor site AG,which leaded to a splicing defect. Conclusion A novel synonymous splice-acceptor site mutation c.879G > A in the ECM1 gene is identified in the family with LP.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of Tuina (Chinese therapeutic massage) at points on abdomen and back meridians in the treatment of infantile colic. Methods: A total of 120 infants with intestinal colic were randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, with 60 cases in each group. In the control group, the parents of the infants were given soothing and health education. In addition to the intervention used in the control group, the observation group was treated with Tuina at points on abdomen and back meridians once a day for 5 consecutive days as a course of treatment. The pain scale score and clinical symptoms of the two groups were recorded before and after treatment. Results: After treatment, the total effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The pain scale score of the observation group was lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). In the 24 h behavior diary indicators, the daily attack duration, the daily attack times, and the weekly attack days in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: Tuina at points on abdomen and back meridians is effective and safe in the treatment of infantile colic.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2007;21(12):534-536
OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the available operation method of special type tracheobronchial foreign bodies removal.
METHOD:
Sixty one patients of special type tracheobronchial foreign bodies were extracted with some special instruments and methods depend on foreign body types. The features of operation on different kinds of foreign bodies were analyzed.
RESULT:
All patients were operated successfully by using foreign body hook (31 cases), pencil or writing screw brush extracted (11 cases), foreign body cage (13 cases), slender inverse claw esophagus foreign body clamp (3 cases) and so on. No complications and died cases were found. Only 5 patients were undertaken trachea incision before operation.
CONCLUSION
Suitable instruments and technique chose for every individual cases is the key to successful operation.
