BACKGROUND:The chitin medical wound dressing can relieve the wound pain, bleeding, and promote wound healing. It has good biocompatibility and antibacterial properties. With the good permeability and natural
degradation in the body, it can be used clinicaly as a good biological wound dressing.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical outcome of the chitin medical wound dressing paste and routine dressings used in changing the dressing and medication.
METHODS:We retrospectively studied 60 patients undergoing wound-treatment. They were divided into two
groups: chitin medical wound dressing paste group and routine dressing group. Each group had 30 patients. We recorded wound healing rate, detection rate of bacteria, visual analog scale score, healing time and cost of
treatment at 3, 7, 14 days after treatment.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The wound healing rate, detection rate of bacteria, visual analog scale score, healing time of the chitin medical wound dressing paste group were better than those of the routine dressing change medicine group (P < 0.05). But there was no difference in the cost of treatment between the two groups. Therefore, we can made the conclusion that the chitin medical wound dressing paste used in changing the
dressing and medication can promote wound healing, reduce the antibacterial infection rate, and obtain better treatment satisfaction.

Objective: To study the optimal combined ratio of baicalin, icariin and Astragalus saponin I from a Chinese herbal compound Biminne. Methods: Firstly, a mouse model of allergic rhinitis was established by intraperitoneal injection of ovalbumin (OVA) and aluminum hydroxide gel suspension, and the effective dose range of baicalin, icariin and Astragalus saponin I was detected by 2,3-bis(2-methoxy-4-nitro-5-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium-5-carboxanilide inner salt method. Secondly, 10 groups of combinations of baicalin, icariin and Astragalus saponin I assembled by U*(10)(10(8)) form were employed to determine the optimal combination by means of analyzing of the inhibitory effect on the splenocyte proliferation. Finally, the effects of each effective ingredient and the optimal combination were compared by observing the splenocyte proliferation, the contents of interleukin-4 (IL-4), IL-5, interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) in supernatant of the splenocyte cultures and the ratio of IL-4 to IFN-gamma in order to verify the result. Results: Baicalin or icariin at concentrations ranging from 2 to 10 mumol/L, and Astragalus saponin I from 1 to 10 mumol/L effectively suppressed the splenocyte proliferation. When the proportion of baicalin, icariin and Astragalus saponin I was 1:2.14:2.65, the inhibitory effect was most remarkable. Further research confirmed the rationality of the optimal combination. Conclusion: An optimal combination of the major effective ingredients from Chinese herbal compound Biminne most effectively suppresses the proliferation of splenocytes from sensitized mice and regulates the cytokine secreting.

Objective To summarize our experience and treatment results of nasopharyngeal carcinoma treated in a single institution. Methods From Jan. 2000 to Dec.2003,1837 patients with histologically proven nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) were retrospectively analyzed. The disease was staged according to the Fuzhou stage classification. 885 patients received cisplatin (DDP) based chemotherapy. All patients received radiotherapy to the nasopharynx and neck. The dose was 30.6-74.0 Gy, 1.8-2.0 Gy per fraction over 3.5-8.0 weeks to the primary site with 60Co γ rays or 6 MV X-rays. The dose to lymph nodes was 60-68 Gy. The residual disease was boosted by 192Ir afterloading brachytherapy, small external beam fields, conformal radiotherapy,or X-knife. Results The median follow-up time was 54(3-90) months. The 5-year overall survival(OS), disease-free survival (DFS), relapse-free survival (RFS) and distant metastasis free survival(DMSF) rates were 67.42% ,63.25% ,86.47% and 80.31% ,respectively. Clinical stage was the most significant prognostic factor, and OS was 88% ,74.8% ,65.9% ,52.4% and 20% for stage Ⅰ ,stage Ⅱ,stage Ⅲ,stage ⅣA and stage ⅣB,respectively. Gender,T,N and TNM stage were the significant prognostic factors of OS in multivariate analysis. Conclusions For NPC patients, the 5-year OS of 67.4% is achieved by conventional radiotherapy technique in our institution. Both univariate and multivariate analysis shows that gender and clinical stage are the significant prognostic factors of OS.
