AIM: To establish a method for determination of volatile components(? pinene、? pinene、camphor、menthol、isoborneol、borneol、cinnamaldehyde、paeonol and laurocapram)in Liangmiao Honghua Ointment (Radix Zanthoxyli, Flos Carthami, Radix Notoginseng, paeonol, etc.). METHODS: Nine volatile components were isolated and determined on ZB WAX capillary column(30 m?0.25 mm?0.25 ?m) by GC. The column temperature was raised by program, 50 ℃(3 min)→30 ℃?min -1 →120 ℃(5 min)→10 ℃?min -1 →150 ℃ (1 min)→60 ℃?min -1 →230 ℃(12 min). Split stream sampling was applied, split ratio was 20∶1; injection port temperature was 210 ℃; detector: FID, temperature at 250 ℃. RESULTS: The nine volatile components were isolated well. The linearities were fine with the recoveries of 97%-100%, respectively. CONCLUSION: The method is convenient, rapid and accurate. It can be used to control the quality of Liangmian Honghua Ointment.

Objective To establish and evaluate criteria applied to review of complete blood counts (CBC)and differential results from automated hematology analyzers. Methods Temporary criteria were established by using alarm system of XE-2100 automated hematology analyzer and by consulting the 41 suggested rides of international consensus group.2 795 out-and in-patient samples were run as clinical samples.Stained blood films were prepared and manual differential with smear review were performed on all samples.Statistical analysis was done for each temporary rule and instrument flag which indicated abnormal cell quantity and morphology. Results Of all rules, instrument flags of ‘Immature Gran/Left Shift?’, ‘ Atypical Lympho?’and‘NRBC(nucleated red blood cell)?’showed most frequent false positive and false negative instrument flag.Evaluation on rnles about cell quantity change showed false positive and false negative rates were both low. Results of morphology evaluation showed that true positive rate was 17.44%, false positive rate was 15.82%,true negative rate was 63.49%,false negative rate was 3.25%.‘ Atypical Lymphocyte?’,‘Immature Gran?’and‘blast?’were the most frequent false positive flags.According to those results and clinicians opinions, our hematology review criteria for action following automated CBC and leukocytes differential was established. Conclusions The hematology review criteria have high true positive rate and low false negative rate.To clinical hematology laboratory using automated hematology analyzer, new criteria can reduce work load, bring lower false negative rate and higher work efficiency.

OBJECTIVETo report the outcome of long bone nonunion of humerus, femur and tibia treated with locking internal fixation and bone graft.
METHODSFrom February 2003 to October 2006, locking internal fixation and bone grafting were employed to treat 5 cases at humerus, 33 cases at femur, 23 cases at tibia. Forty-four of the patients were men, and 17 were women. The mean age was 38 years (range 7-70 years). The nonunion had resulted from failure of internal fixation in 47 cases, failure of external fixation in 5 cases, infection in 9 cases. The history of nonunion lasted from 10 to 156 months (mean 19 months). There were 42 patients treated with locking compression plate (LCP), and 19 patients with less invasive stabilization system (LISS). For bone grafting, autogenous ilium was used in 55 patients, autogenous ilium and allograft bone was used in 3 patients, allograft bone and Wright DBM artificial bone was used in 3 patients.
RESULTSAll the 61 patients were followed up for an average 12 months (range 6-24 months) only to reveal solid bone union in all the fracture, with a mean healing time of 4.8 months (ranged from 4 to 6 months). No loosening or breakage of the implants occurred in this series. The Knee Society Scores (KSS) was used to evaluate knee function in 47 patients with peri-knee joint nonunion, excellent result were seen in 35 patients, good in 7 patients, fare in 1 patients, poor in 4 patients.
CONCLUSIONLocking internal fixation can be used to treat effectively bone nonunion at the humerus, femur and tibia.
