BACKGROUND:Several studies have shown that Hero642 is a rotary nickel-titanium file with high safe performance, and its ability of root canal shaping is good.
OBJECTIVE:To observe the clinical effect of single-visit root canal treatment using Hero642 nickel-titanium rotary instrument on teeth with chronic pulpitis and apical periodontitis.
METHODS:Total y 400 teeth with chronic pulpitis and apical periodontitis were operated by Hero642 nickel-titanium rotary instrument and nickel-titanium hand file, respectively. The efficiency of root canal preparation was taken. Pain reactions were recorded 1 week after operation and curative effects were evaluated 2 years after root canal treatment. Rates of pain and success were calculated at 1 week and 2 years after treatment, respectively.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The average time for root canal preparation was (3.57±0.76) minutes in the Hero642 group and (7.62±0.25) minutes in the hand file group, and there was a significant difference between the two groups (P<0.01). After 1 week of treatment, the pain rates were 3.5%and 22.8%in the two groups, respectively, showing a significant difference (P<0.01). Two-year fol ow-up was performed, and ratios of success were 94.4%in the Hero642 group and 92.4%in the hand file group, but there was no difference between the two groups. Hero642 nickel-titanium rotary instrument for single-visit root canal treatment showed excellent efficiency on clinical treatment, reduced treatment period and had less postoperative reactions.

Background It has been proved that as an important adhesion protein of extracellular matrix, osteopontion (OPN) can affect tumor neovascularization. Some new researches showed that anti-OPN antibody plays a role in regulating the neovascular vessel formation.Choroidal neovascularization (CNV) has the same structure with tumor neovascularization, but whether anti-OPN antibody restricts new vessel formation is unclear. Objective This study was to investigate the inhibitory effect of anti-OPN antibody on CNV.Methods Laser-induced CNV models were created in 40 eyes of 40 male SPF C57BL/6J mice by Argon laser photocoagulation of retinas, with the wavelength 514 nm.Thirty-six successful models were randomly divided into anti-OPN antibody group,mouse-IgG group and PBS group by the randomized number table. On the second day after photocoagulation,anti-OPN antibody of 400 μg was intraperitoneally injected in the anti-OPN antibody group, and the equivalent amount of mouse IgG and PBS were used in the same way in the mouse IgG group and PBS group. The CNV was evaluated by fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) on the seventh days after photocoagulation. The mice were immediately sacrificed and the eyeballs were enucleated on the fourteenth day after photocoagulation, and 4 eyeballs in each group were used to observe the areas of CNV on the retinal pigmental epithelium-choroid-sclera fiat mounts, and the other 8 eyeballs of each groups were used to analyze the expression levels of OPN mRNA and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) mRNA using quantitative fluorescence-PCR (QF-PCR).Results FFA showed fluorescein leakage areas around laser spots 7 days after photocoagulation, indicating that CNV appeared. The CNV areas were ([16.98±0.70] × 103) μm2,([27.13 ± 0.81] × 103) μm2 and ([35.39±2.14] ×103) μm2 respectively in the anti-OPN antibody group, mouse IgG group and PBS group, with a significant difference among the 3 groups (F =533.76,P =0.00),and the CNV area was significantly smaller in the anti-OPN antibody group compared with those of the mouse IgG group and PBS group (q =-3.95,-4.40,both at P<0.05).No significant difference was found in the OPN mRNA expression between the antiOPN antibody group and mouse IgG group (t =-5.26,P =0.66).However,the expression of VEGF mRNA in choroidal tissue was significantly declined in the anti-OPN antibody group than that in the mouse IgG group (t =-6.74,P<0.01).Conclusions Anti-OPN antibody suppresses the formation of CNV in laser-induced mouse model by down-regulating VEGF.

Objective To analyze the colonization of Candida, Rhodotorula, Penicillium and Aspergillus in skin surfaces of patients with atopic dermatitis, and to assess the relationship between the four common fungal allergens and severity of atopic dermatitis. Methods Fifty patients with atopic dermatitis and 20 healthy controls were enrolled. Scales were scraped from lesional and non?lesional skin of flexural extremities of the patients, as well as from normal skin of the flexural elbow of healthy controls, then were subjected to microscopic examination and culture. Scale specimens were inoculated onto Sabouraud dextrose agar medium and cultured at 25 ℃ in a constant temperature incubator. Subsequently, suspected fungal or yeast?like colonies were collected for pure culture. Finally, fungal strains were identified according to colony morphology, color, growth speed, as well as microscopic features of spores and hyphae. Results No hyphae or pseudohyphae were found in any case by microscopic examination. Candida albicans and Rhodotorula were detected in 29(58%)and 17(34%)out of the 50 patients, respectively, and in 5(25%)and 2 (10%) out of the 20 healthy controls, respectively. The detection rates of Candida albicans and Rhodotorula were significantly higher in the patients than in the controls(χ2=6.23, 4.10, respectively, both P<0.05). Of 25 patients with severe lesions, 19(76%)and 12(48%)were colonized by Candida albicans and Rhodotorula respectively;among 25 patients with moderate lesions, 10 (40%) and 5 (20%) were colonized by Candida albicans and Rhodotorula respectively. An increase was observed in the detection rates of Candida albicans and Rhodotorula in the patients with severe lesions compared with those with moderate lesions(χ2=6.65, 4.37, respectively, both P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the detection rate of Penicillium or Aspergillus between the patients and health controls. Conclusion The colonization rates of Candida albicans and Rhodotorula on skin surfaces were higher in patients with atopic dermatitis than in healthy controls, and higher in patients with severe lesions than in patients with moderate lesions, indicating that the types of colonizing fungi are associated with the health status of skin and severity of symptoms in patients with atopic dermatitis.

Objective:To investigate the clinical therapeutic effect of low-dose chemotherapy in advanced gastrointestinal cancer patients with weak physical condition, and to evaluate the related factors affecting the prognosis. Methods:The clinical data of 118 advanced gastrointestinal cancer patients with weak physical condition who were admitted to Xiamen Branch, Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University from March 2018 to May 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. Kaplan-Meier method was used to make survival analysis in patients stratified by different factors, and log-rank was used to test. Multiple factor analysis of prognosis was performed by using Cox regression model. The association of clinicopathological factors with the prognosis was evaluated. Results:Among 118 patients, 16 (13.6%) cases were esophageal cancer, 41 (34.7%) cases were gastric cancer, 48 (40.7%) cases were colorectal cancer, 13 (11.0%) cases were pancreatic cancer. The overall survival (OS) rates of 6 months and 1-year were 44.1% and 10.2%, respectively. Survival analysis showed that patients with hemoglobin ≥100 g/L, serum albumin > 40 g/L and normal gastrointestinal function had better OS (all P < 0.05), while patients with physical status score of 3 scores and pain had worse OS (all P < 0.05). Cox multivariate analysis showed that after adjusting age and gender, hemoglobin level ( HR = 0.314, 95% CI 0.241-0.977, P = 0.001), pain ( HR = 2.016, 95% CI 1.697-7.038, P = 0.008) and gastrointestinal function ( HR = 1.751, 95% CI 1.607-6.080, P = 0.036) were independent influencing factors of OS in advanced gastrointestinal cancer patients with weak physical condition after receiving low-dose chemotherapy. Conclusions:Low-dose chemotherapy can still benefit advanced gastrointestinal cancer patients with weak physical condition. Hemoglobin level, pain and gastrointestinal function are independent prognostic factors for these patients.
