BACKGROUND: Aerobic exercise is a popular and effective way of fitness. All kinds of changes occur in the human system, especially the changes in the cardiovascular system. Enhancing the cardiovascular system functions is the most important role in the aerobic exercise. OBJECTIVE: To sum up effects of aerobic exercise on blood indicators, cardio-vascular function. RETRIEVAL STRATEGY: A computer-based search was conducted in Pubmed for literatures related to aerobic exercise and cardiovascular system published between January 1998 and December 2006 with the key words of "aerobic exercise, cardiovascular" in English. Simultaneously, China Journal Full-text Database was looked for relevant articles published from January 2001 to December 2006 with the same key words in Chinese. The data were selected firstly. Inclusive criteria: ①the influence of aerobic exercise on cardiovascular function, ②influence of aerobic exercise on blood indexes. The exclusive criterion for deletion was the repetition of the same research. There were 81 literatures in accordance with the above-mentioned criteria. LITERATURE EVALUATION: 51 papers of repetitive research were excluded, 30 of them were accorded with the inclusive criteria and were included. DATA SYNTHESIS: Aerobic exercise plays the most important role in fitness. Enhancing the cardiovascular system functions is the most important role in the aerobic exercise. Epidemiological studies and experimental studies have indicated that aerobic exercise not only can increase energy consumption, improve vitality lipoprotein and lower blood lipid content, but also can reduce blood pressure in patients with hypertension and decrease the incidence of arteriosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases, and can effectively enhance cardiac function. CONCLUSION: Appropriate aerobic exercise can lead to the enhancements of cardiac function and vascular function, and plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

BACKGROUND: The etiology of lumbar muscle strain is unclear, and it is a kind of specific disease. Lumbar muscles strain not only affects quality of life and work, but also causes heavy medical burden and indirect social costs. OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of electropuncture and core strength training on lumbar muscle strain in college students. METHODS: The study was in accordance with the ethics requirements of Guangxi Normal University. Eighty college students with lumbar muscle strain were selected, and they signed the informed consents. The participants were randomized into control group (no intervention), electropuncture group, core strength training group, electropuncture with core strength training group. The intervention time was 7 weeks. The Visual Analogue Scale scores and pain system scores at baseline and after treatment were recorded. The recurrence was measured after 4 months of follow-up. RESULTSANDCONCLUSION: (1) The Visual Analogue Scale scores and pain system scores in the electropuncture, core strength training, and electropuncture with core strength training groups were significantly decreased compared with the baseline scores (P < 0.05). (2) The Visual Analogue Scale scores and pain system scores in the electropuncture, core strength training, and electropuncture with core strength training groups were significantly lower than those in the control group after intervention, and the scores in the electropuncture with core strength training group were significantly lower than those in the electropuncture and core strength training groups (P< 0.05). (3) The healing rate in the core strength training and electropuncture with core strength training groups was significantly higher than that in the electropuncture group, and the treatment efficacy in the core strength training and electropuncture with core strength training groups was significantly superior to the electropuncture group (P<0.05). (4) The recurrence in the core strength training and electropuncture with core strength training groups was significantly lower than that in the electropuncture group (P<0.05). (5) These results indicate that electropuncture and core strength training both have certain treatment efficacy for lumbar muscle strain in college students and core strength training is better than electropuncture, with lower recurrence. The synergistic effect of the combination of core strength training and electropuncture for lumbar muscle strain in college students is remarkable.

Objectives To summarize screening and therapeutic effects of congenital hypothyroidism (CH) in Zhongshan. Methods The thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) concentration in dried heel blood samples on iflter paper was detected using time-resolved fluorescence immunoassay. The cases of positive screening tests were called back for further examination of venous blood TSH concentration using chemiluminescence method. Fifty-four children with permanent CH treated routinely for 2 years (CH group) and 120 age-gender matched health children (control group) were recruited. The physical development (height, body weight) was monitored. The neurodevelopment and temperament type were tested using Pediatric Nneuropsychological Development Assessment and Children's Temperament Scale respectively at 6 and 24 months after birth. Results Two hundred eight-five thousand two hundred forty-two neonates were screened. One hundred and forty cases were confirmed and the incidence rate was 1/2037. There was no statistical difference in length-for-age z score (LAZ) and weight-for-age z score (WAZ) between CH and control group (P>0.05). The neurodevelopment in CH group was normal, but gross motor development was worse than that in control group (P<0.05). The temperament type and distribution had statistical difference between CH and control group (P<0.05). The percentage of the dififcult type and central dififcult type was increased in CH group as compared to control group, especially in the activity, adaptability, reaction intensity and perseverance (P<0.05). Conclusions The physical and neurodevelopment are nearly normal in patients with CH after early supplementation, but the psychological behavior problems need to be focused on in the process of intervention.

Objective To explore the effect of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) rehabilitation training on functional recovery of athletic rotator cuff injury. Methods Twenty-two college students with athletic rotator cuff injuries were stratified according to their gender and randomly divided into resistance band + passive joint range of motion (ROM) training group (control group) and PNF training group (experimental group). The visual analog scale (VAS) was used to evaluate subjective pain intensity of the shoulder joint. Pain positive rate for each manipulation test of rotator cuff injury was observed, and active ROM and muscle strength of the shoulder joint were measured. Improved UCLA shoulder joint score was used to evaluate comprehensive function of the shoulder joint. Results After training, VAS scores and pain positive rate in two groups were lower than those before training, and VAS scores and pain positive rate in experimental group were lower than those in control group. Muscle strength, active ROM in all directions and improved UCLA score of the shoulder joint in two groups were also higher than those before training, and the internal rotation muscle strength, the internal rotation and external rotation active ROM, improved UCLA score of the shoulder joint in experimental group were higher than those in control group. Conclusions PNF rehabilitation training can reduce the pain of athletic rotator cuff injury, improve the active ROM, muscle strength and UCLA shoulder joint score. The function recovery effect of PNF training is better than that of resistance band + passive ROM training.
