This paper reported activation of mice peritoneal macrophages by Sheng Ji Ointment (a Chinese traditional ointment for external application) were markedly inhibited from migrating out of capillary tubes by Sheng Ji Ointment. The source of Elephantine hide(象皮)is in short supply. Whether we Can use Cattlehide (牛皮)instead of the Elephatine hide for the Sheng Ji Ointment, the migrating inhibited effects of both are similar. The experimental results may throw some light on their clinical application.

AIM: To investingate the potential role of apoptosis in the development of acute lung injury(ALI) following limbs ischemia-reperfusion(LIR) in rats and the effects of raurine. METHODS: The model of LIB injury in rats was made. By using TUNEL, electrophoresis, reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry techniques, pulmonary apoptosis, Fas/FasL expressions and Ca~(2+), reactive oxygen species (ROS),the ratio of DNA double chain in tissue were detected in different groups.RESULTS: The rapid appearance of apoptosis in alveolar epithelial cells and pulmonary vascular endothelial cells were observed after LIR in rats. The ratio of DNA double chain decreased and tissue Ca~(2+) increased. The expression of Fas/FasL mRNA and protein was up-regulated in lung tissue of rats after LIR, which was related to the elevation of alveolar epithelial cells and pulmonary vascular endothelial cell apoptosis. Taurine decreased alveolar epithelial cell and pulmonary vascular endothelial cell apoptosis not by down-regulating expression of Fas/FasL system. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that the excessive apoptosis and Fas/FasL system expression may play a role in the pathogensis of ALI following LIB in rats, and taurine decreases alveolar epithelial cell and pulmonary vascular endothelial cell apoptosis.

Objective: To investigate the expression of MDR1 and GFP in the human hematopoietic cells mediated by adeno-associated virus. Methods: The GFP gene was transferred into the human hematopoietic cells by AAV vectors and created strong visible fluorescence by purely molecular biological means. Using adeno-associated virus vectors, we have transferred human mdr-1 gene into human hematopoietic cells and investigated the drug resistence of human hematopoietic cells modified with mdr-1 gene. PCR analysis confirmed that mdrl cDNA had been successfully transferred into the human hematopoietic cells. An assay of MTT proved that the human hematopoietic cells modified by mdrl gene had resistance to colchicine. Results: It was about 30% of the hematopoietic cells that expressed the green fluorescent proteins. The resistance of hematopoietic cells was increased parently when the cells were infected by the crude virus stocks. Conclusion: It is conducted that the AAV vector could successfully transfer the foreign gene into the human hematopoietic cells. The cells modified with mdrl gene have increased the resistance to drugs.

Objective To quantify the temporal changes in the volume of blood flow to the skin of the forearm and lower leg during static maximum inspiratory breath-holding of different durations. Methods Blood flow to the skin of the forearm and lower leg were continuously measured with laser Doppler flowmetry in 12 healthy subjects. They were randomly selected to hold their breath for 10,20 or 40 seconds,or as long as possible. The volume of skin blood flow, the onset latency and the recovery latency were measured before, during and after the breath holding. Results Blood flow decreased significantly during each breath-hold with any durations. The magnitude of the decrease and its latencies were similar with all the durations. The average volume of skin blood flow and it's minimum value during each breath-hold were significantly lower in the forearms than in the lower legs. However, the average onset latency (4.41 ±0.44 s) and the average recovery latency (5.95 ±0.59 s) in the forearms were significantly shorter than in the lower legs (4.83 ± 0.70 s for onset and 7.33 ± 0.91 s for recovery). Conclusion The volume of skin blood flow decreases during a static maximum inspiratory breath-hold,and the magnitude of the increase is not related to the duration of the breath-hold.The generalized increase in skin sympathetic vasoconstrictor activity during a static breath-hold is greater in the forearm than in the lower leg.

Hypoxia-ischemia induces an inflammatory and immune response in the nervous system that may be important for development of brain injury. Recent data implicate that cytokines, chemokines, adhesion molecules, are involved in the recruitment of inflammatory-immune cells. A cytokines which promote emigration of leukocytes from the vascular lumen into the injured brain tissue are produced at the site of incipient cerebral infarction. The expression of mRNA for alpha- and beta-chemokines preceded the appearance of immune cells suggesting that these molecules may have a role in the inflammatory response to insults. The humoral and cell-medated immunity under the conditions of focal brain ischemia was discussed. These results together indicate that cell-cell interaction by adhesion molecules and cytokines is an important component in the pathogenesis of ischemic cerebral diseases, especially at the acute phase.Recently accumulated data show that depleting the amount of circulating leukocytes or administering anti-inflammatory chemicals such as cytokine blocking agents, anti-adhesion molecule antibodies, and immunosuppressants effectively minimize the size of ischemia induced cerebral infarction.
