Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(04):-
In the present work the relative biological availability (RBA) of iron in the blood and the liver paste of swine has been studied by means of the hemoglobin regeneration technique in chickens. One day-old chickens were first made anemic on a low iron basal diet for 3 weeks, and were then divided into groups to which basal diets with various iron levels (10, 20, 40 ppm Fe) from different iron sources (ferrous sulfate reference standard, whole blood meal of swine and liver paste of swine) were subsequently fed respectively. After 16 days on test diets hemoglobin levels and hematocrit values in the blood of the chickens were measured. The chickens were then sacrificed for measurement of the iron concentration in their livers.Regression lines of each iron source were fitted by plotting final hemo- globin concentrations against the corresponding iron concentrations of the diet fed. Let the slope of the regression line from ferrous sulfate be 100, (i.e. relative bioavailability of ferrous sulfate), the RBA of the other 3 iron sources was as follows; processed whole blood meal of swine was 90.2; raw blood meal of swine 64.6; and the live paste of swine 78.4; but the differences between any two of them are statistically non-significant; i.e. their effects on hemoglobin regeneration are of the same extent.

In the present article the effects of animal blood and liver on the status of iron nutrition in preschool children were studied.71 apparently normal children in a kindergarten, aged 3-7 years, were selected for feeding trial. All of them were undergone physical examination to verify the absence of hookworm infestation and chronic diseases, but having a bit lower hemoglobin concentration (Hb

In order to evaluate the availability of the lateral horizontal laryngectomy and anaplasty of epiglottis to treat some patients with specific supraglottic carcinomas and hypopharyngeal carcinomas, 17 cases of laryngeal and hypopharyngeal carcinomas were retrospectively analyzed, whose tumors were located at the lateral margin of epiglottis, aryepiglottic fold, medial wall of piriform fossa and were treated by the lateral horizontal laryngectomy and anaplasty of epiglottis. The results showed that all cases took food by mouth in postoperative 9-14 days and subjected to decannulation in postoperative 9-15 days. Three cases had postoperative hoarse voice. The free-disease survival rate of 3 years was 71.4% in 14 cases followed up after the first surgical therapy, and the overall free-disease survival rate of 3 years was 85.7% after the second surgical therapy. It was concluded that the manipulations of the lateral horizontal laryngectomy and epiglottiplasty were simple. It could alleviate the postoperative symptoms of aspiration and bucking remarkably and shorten their postoperative recovery time, yet does not lower the survival rate of patients if laryngocarcinoma or hypopharyngeal carcinoma cases were properly selected.

Objective To investigate the current practice of myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) including current epidemiology, pathology, diagnosis and treatment.Data sources The data analyzed in this review were mainly from relevant articles without restriction on the publication date reported in PubMed,MedSci,Google scholar. The terms "myofasial trigger points" and "myofacial pain syndrome" were used for the literature search.Study selection Original articles with no limitation of research design and critical reviews containing data relevant to myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) and MPS were retrieved, reviewed, analyzed and summarized. Results Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is characterized by painful taut band, referred pain, and local response twitch with a prevalence of 85% to 95% of incidence.Several factors link to the etiology of MTrPs,such as the chronic injury and overload of muscles.Other factors, such as certain nutrient and hormone insufficiency, comorbidities, and muscle imbalance may also maintain the MTrP in an active status and induce recurrent pain. The current pathology is that an extra leakage acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction induces persistent contracture knots, relative to some hypotheses of integration, muscle spindle discharges, spinal segment sensitization, ect.MTrPs can be diagnosed and localized based on a few subjective criteria.Several approaches, including both direct and supplementary treatments, can inactivate MTrPs.Direct treatments are categorized into invasive and conservative. Conclusion This review provides a clear understanding of MTrP pain and introduces the most useful treatment approaches in China.

Journal of Clinical Urology 2001;16(1):17-18
Purpose:To study the diagnosis and treatment of ectopic opening of ureter with agenesis or ectopic kidney. Methods:8 cases of ectopic opening of ureter were reviewed.IVU, Ultrasonography, CT and MRU were used to make the preoperative diagnosis and open surgeries were followed. Results:Seven preoperative diagnoses were made by ultrasonography, three by IVU and five by CT. One patient with ectopic agenesis kidney failed to the above-mentioned methods except MRU.All diagnosis were confirmed by open surgery. Conclusions:The diagnosis value of IVP and CT in agenesis or ectopic kidney is questionable. Careful ultrasonography plays an important role in the diagnosis. MRU may be the most precise diagnostic method in localization that can clearly show ectopic opening of ureter with agenesis or ectopic kidney.
