Objective To investigate the inhibitory effect of heparanase antisense oligodeoxynucleotide (AS-ODN) on the invasiveness of human liver cancer cell lines SMMC-7721,BEL-7402 in vitro. Methods We designed and synthesized AS-ODN that was complementary to the start codon region of heparanase mRNA,and the control,nonsense oligodeoxynucleotide (NS-ODN). The ODNs with the final concentration of 300 nmol/L was delivered into SMMC-7721,BEL-7402 cells by Oligofectamine TM Reagent. We evaluated heparanase gene expression using RT-PCR and detected heparanase protein expression using Western blot assay after transfection. Objective In embryology, the pancreas is formed by fusion of the ventral pancreas(VP) and the dorsal pancreas(DP) during the seventh week of gestation. The aim of this study was to clarify whether there were differences in the clinicopathological characteristics of the carcinoma of pancreatic head(PhCa) arising from the VP and DP. MethodsResected specimens from 43 cases with PhCa were studied histologically and immunohistochemically. The VP and DP were distinguished by islet shape and amount of cells producing pancreatic polypeptide(PP) in normal pancreatic parenchyma adjacent to the main tumor. ResultsThere were 20 cases of PhCa from VP(VP-group) and 23 cases of DP (DP-group) in this study. Objective To explore the potential key risk factors of schistosomiasis transmission in potential endemic areas so as to provide the evidence for setting up the prediction and surveillance systems of schistosomiasis outbreak epidemic. Methods From 2008 to 2012,fixed and mobile surveillance sites in potential endemic areas of 2 counties in Hubei Province were selected. The immunological assays and stool examinations were carried out to investigate the schistosome infection situation of local people, mobile population and livestock. The distribution of Oncomelania hupensis snails was investigated in risk areas and suspicious ar-eas,and spreading patterns of snails were observed in the rivers that directly connected with the Yangtze River. Results A total of 6 052 local people aged 6-65 years were screened by IHA immunological tests,and the positive rate of antibody was 1.19%(72/6 052). Totally 72 antibody positives were examined by Kato-Katz technique and there were no positives. A total of 5 004 mo-bile persons were tested by IHA immunological tests and the positive rate was 1.36%(68/5 004). Totally 68 antibody positives were examined by Kato-Katz technique and there were no positives. Totally 287.07 hm2 potential endemic areas were investigated for Oncomelania snail detection,and no snails were found. The investigation on snail spreading patterns and the surveillance on suspicious circumstances were carried out,with no snails found. Conclusions In the schistosomiasis potential endemic areas, some positives of IHA immunological tests are found. Therefore,monitoring is still needed to be strengthened.

This study aimed at developing an ultra-performance liquid chromatography electrospray time of flight-mass spectrometry (UPLC-ESI-QTOF-MS) method for the identification of bovine hide gelatine from the shell glue of the red-eared slider.Tortoise shell glue was made from the shell of red-eared slider or Reeves' turtle (Chinemys reevesii).The samples were analyzed on UPLC-ESI-QTOF-MS after being digested by trypsin,and the ions at m/z 604.8,m/z 641.3,m/z 790.8 of the marker peptides of bovine hide gelatin were detected.As a result,it was found that the test results of the ions made from the shell of red-eared slider at m/z 641.3 were positive,taking the same fragmentation regularity of MS/MS as the standard of bovine-hide gelatine,while negative results were detected from the ions made from the shell of Reeves' turtle.In conclusion,the method was simple and accurate provided a basis for distinguishing the tortoise shell glue from bovine hide,which could be also used for the quality control of tortoise shell glue.

Objective To understand the dynamic schistosomiasis situation in Hubei Province so as to provide the evidence for formulating the effective control strategy. Methods According to the Scheme of Schistosomiasis Surveillance in Hubei Province the 2009 edition 207 endemic villages were selected and investigated for the schistosome infections of residents and livestock and the distribution of Oncomelania hupensis snails. Results The average infection rates of residents and cattle were 0.35% and 0.15% respectively and the endemic situation of fishermen and farmers were relatively serious 0.44% and 0.42% respectively . The density of living snails was 0.30 snail/0.1m2 but no infected snails were found. Conclusion The en-demic situation of schistosomiasis in Hubei Province was stable in 2013 but the efforts for the infectious source control still should be strengthened.

This study aimed at identifying pig-hide gelatin from tortoise shell glue using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-electrospray-time of flight mass spectrometry(UPLC-ESI-QTOF-MS/MS).The samples of tortoise shell glue were digested by trypsin before the analysis on UPLC coupled with QTOF mass spectrometry.The ions at m/z 925.4 were selected as the marker peptides of pig-hide gelatin.It was found that the test results of the ions at m/z 925.4 were positive in the samples with low contents of the marker peptides of tortoise shell glue,indicating the existence of pig-hide gelatin.However,the result of bovine-hide gelatinordonkey-hide gelatin was negative,while negative results were detected in tortoiseglue standard.The finding was in conformity with previous references over the fragmentation regularity of MS/MS.In conclusion,the method can be adopted to identifying the pig-hide gelatin from tortoise shell glue and applied to the quality control of tortoise shell glue with high specificity and sensibility.

Objective To evaluate the molluscicidal effect of suspension concentrate of niclosamide ethanolamine salt(SC-NE)against Oncomelania hupensis snails in laboratory and field. Methods The experiment of SCNE against the snails by using the immersing and spraying methods was performed in laboratory and field,with control groups of wettable powder of ni-closamide ethanolamine salt(WPN). Results In the laboratory,LC50(s) of SCNE for 24,48 h and 72 h by using the immersion method were 0.0926,0.0629 mg/L and 0.0549 mg/L,respectively. The mortality rates of snails for 24,48 h and 72 h by using the immersion method were all 100％ with the concentrations of 0.25 mg/L. The mortality rates of snails were all 100％ while spraying SCNE for 3 d in the laboratory with the concentrations of 0.25 g/m2. In Jiangling County,except 0.5 g/m3 SCNE immers-ing the snails for 24 h,the mortality rates of snails by using SCNE with the immersing method were all 100％. While the concen-tration of SCNE was 0.5 g/m3 or above,the mortality rates were all 100％after the use of it with the immersion method for 2 d in Gong'an County. In Jiangling County,the mortality rates of snails by using SCNE 0.5 g/m3 for 1 d,3 d,and 7 d with the spray-ing method were 87.5％,92.82％and 97.40％respectively. While the concentration of SCNE was 0.5 g/m3,the mortality rates were 85.94％,86.78％and 94.21％respectively after the use of it with the spraying method for 1 d,3 d,7 d in Gong'an Coun-ty,and the molluscicidal effect of SCNE(1.0 g/m2)was higher than that of WPN. Conclusion SCNE has a high molluscicidal effect in the laboratory and field,and it is a novel and simple formulation of niclosamide.
