Objective To explore the value of center vein catheter thoracostomy in the chemotherapy of malignant pleural effusion. Methods Carboplatin and ?-2b Interferon were infused into pleural cavity by implanted center vein catheter in the group observation (n=17). After repeated thoracocentesis, the same drugs were introduced into pleural cavity in the group control (n=29). At the end of the 1st, 3rd and 6th month after drug administration, follow-up was carried out to assess the response rates. Results At the end of the 1st, 3rd and 6th month after intrapleural therapies, the number of intrapleural therapies in the group observation was (2.2?1.9) times and in the group control (5.3?1.3)times, with statistically significant difference between the two groups (t=5.924, P=0.00). Numbers of complete remission (CR) in the group observation was 10 of 16, 11 of 16 and 10 of 15, respectively and in the group control 9 of 29, 11 of 29 and 5 of 19, respectively, producing significant difference (P=0.043, 0.050, 0.020, respectively). Overall response rates in the group observation were 87.5%, 87.5% and 80.0%, respectively, while in control were 62.5%, 68.7% and 66.7%, respectively, without significant difference (P=0.356, 0.114, 0.178, respectively). Compared with the control, long-term follow-up (six months) showed higher response rates in the group observation: 10 of 15 patients remained CR at 6th month after therapies. No significant difference was seen in respect to adverse effects(?2=2.491,P=0.114). Conclusions Intrapleural chemotherapy by center vein catheter may increase CR and decrease application times of Carboplatin and ?-2b Interferon in the treatment of malignant pleural effusion, with fewer side effects.

Objective To observe the effects of electroacupunture (EA) on the abnormal hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and the expression of hypothalamic corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) peptides family and CRF receptor (R)1 mRNA in traumatized rats,so as to study its underlying mechanism in improving traumatic injury. Methods Forty male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into normal control group (n=10),normal+ EA group (n=10),surgical trauma (model) group (n=10),and model+EA group (n=10). Traumatic injury model was established by performing an exploratory laparotomy in the rats under anesthesia. EA (2 Hz/15 Hz,1-2 mA) was administered for 30 min via two stainless steel needles inserted in "Zusanli" (ST 36) and "Sanyinjiao" (SP 6). Serum adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) ,corticosterone (Cort),luteinizing hormone (LH) and testosterone (T) contents were detected by double-antibody radioimmnoassay. Hypothalamic CRF and CRF R1 mRNA expression was assayed by reversed transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) technique. Results The serum ACTH concentration decreased significantly in model group (P0.05). The serum Cort level increased significantly in model group(P0.05). The expression of hypothalamic CRF mRNA decreased significantly in model group (P0.05). Conclusion EA of "Zusanli" (ST 36) and "Sanyinjiao" (SP 6) can improve surgical trauma-induced HPA disorders, which is probably related to its effects in upregulating CRF mRNA expression and downregulating Ucn 1 mRNA expression in the hypothalamus.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the resistant patterns of ESBLs-producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella spp isolated from 3 hospitals in Xinjiang and to determine the genotypes of ESBLs. METHODS Using 2-fold agar dilution test to determine MICs of ten antibiotics.Using polymerase chain reaction and DNA sequencing to determine ESBLs genotype;using isoelectric focusing to determine the isoelectric points of ?-lactamases produced by strains in which no ESBLs genes were amplified by PCR. RESULTS Strains had low susceptibility to aztreonam, cefotaxime and ceftazidime. The susceptibility to cefepime,cefoperazone/sulbactam,cefmetazole,piperacillin/tazobactam,and meropenem were relatively high.Fifty five strains mainly carried blaCTX-M-1 subgroup gene and blaCTX-M-9subgroup gene, and blaSHV-12 gene were also detected. CONCLUSIONS blaCTX-M-1 Group gene and blaCTX-M-9 group gene are prevalent in three hospitals of Xinjiang,blaSHV-12 gene also plays a part role in leading to resistance of E.coli and Klebsiella spp to ?-lactams.

Objective: To identify the differential proteins in the serum with anti-asthma activity of acupuncture to pinpoint the substance basis of anti-asthma activity of acupuncture by proteomics method. Methods: Two-dimensional electrophoresis of protein was employed to analyze the differential proteins in the serum with anti-asthma activity of acupuncture, and identify the differential proteins with mass spectrum technique. Results: In adrenalectomy (ADX)-asthma acupuncture group and asthma acupuncture group, two-dimensional electrophoresis showed that there was an obvious fuscous point (MW=44.1kD, PI=5.1), which was 60S ribosomal protein L13, or hypothetical protein FLJ32191 analyzed by mass spectrum technique, different from other groups. In ADX-asthma acupuncture group, there were two obviously fuscous points (MW=39.SkD, PI=4.9 and MW=39.SkD, PI=5.0), which were zinc finger protein 208, and thyroid hormone receptor-associated protein analyzed by mass spectrum technique, and two special proteins (MW=17.3kD, PI<4.5 and 16.9kD, PI<4.5), which were Cyclophilin A and zinc finger protein 91 analyzed by mass spectrum technique, different from other groups. Conclusion: There are multi-target effects regulating the whole body in acupuncture treating asthma relating to immunoloregulation, gene expression, and protein synthesization. The effects of acupuncture on the response proteins need further research.
