Objective To study the effects of inorganic arsenic on the activities of GS and AChE in the central nervous system of the offspring rats. Methods Wistar rats were exposed to arsenitc through drinking water at doses of 10, 50 and 100 mg/L respectively from gestation day 6 until F1 pups 42 days old. The activities of AChE, GS in rat brain regions such as cortex and hippocampus were separately determined in F1 pups 0, 28, 42 days old. Results On the postnatal day 0, there were not any significant changes in AChE and GS activities in arsenic group rats compared with the control rats. An increase of AChE in 100 mg/L arsenic group rats hippocampus was showed on the postnatal day 28.These changes also appeared on the postnatal day 42. Conclusion Consecutive arsenic exposure from embryo to postnatal may induce the activity changes of GS,AChE in the pups brain, which may cause results in the related neurotransmitter concentration changes.

Objective To show the capability of NF-κB expression in cochlea. Methods Kanamycin (KA) was subcutaneously injected twice daily for 3 and 7 days with an eight hours interval between two injections, and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was injected into the tympanic cavity of mice. Equal amount of saline was injected for 7 days as control. Frozen sections of all mice cochleae were examined immmunohistochemichally with rabbit polyclonal NF-κB p50. Expression of NF-κB p50 immunoreactivity of mouse cochleae is identified as showed as brown reaction products characteristic of DAB immunohistochemistry. Results Immnoreactivity NF-κB p50 in mouse cochlea was localized in the organ of Corti, spiral limbus, tectorial membrane, the vascular stria, spiral ligament, spiral ganglion and nerve fibers. The immunoreaction could be observed in all spirals throughout the cochlea. Stronger staining was visible in spiral ligament, tectorial membrane, spiral prominence, spiral ganglion and nerve fibers, and the organ of Corti. The immunoreaction in the vascular stria was weaker than that in the structures mentioned above. The immunoreaction in the organ of Corti was observed in inner hair cells (IHC) and outer hair cells (OHC), inner and outer pillar cells, Deiter's cells, and Boettcher's cells. The immunoreaction was weaker in inner sulcus cells, Hensen's cells and Claudius'cells. The stronger immunoreaction was observed in nucleus of spiral ganglion cells. The nucleus of IHC and OHC remained unstained. Conclusion The injection of LPS/KA can promote NF-κB p50 expression to induce an acute reaction in mouse cochlea.

Objective To discuss the efficacy of a modified single posterior fixation of complicated acetabular fractures with a percutaneous cannulated screw and a reconstruction plate in comparison with traditional bilateral approaches (ilioinguinal and Kocher-Langerbeek). Methods From April 2004 to May 2007, 48 cases of complicated acetabular fracture were treated surgically. By Letoumel classification, 22 were transverse and posterior wall fractures, 16 fractures of both columns, 3 fractures of anterior column and posterior wall, 3 T shape fractures and 4 anterior column and posterior hemi-transverse fractures. Of them, 22 cases were treated through the bilateral approaches and 26 cases through the modified single posterior approach by which a percutuneous cannulated screw was applied, going askew through skin and ischial tuberosity, to fix the anterior column and a reconstruction plate to fix the posterior column. Results Forty patients were followed up for 6 to 37 months(average, 18 months) . There was no statistical difference between the 2 groups as fax as the following factors were concerned: anatomic reduction rate and functional good-to-excellent rate. But there were significant differences in operation time and volume of hemorrhage during operation. Conclusion In treatment of complicated acetabular fractures, the modified singl eposterior approach simplifies traditional bilateral approaches so that surgery procedures, perioperative bleeding and postoperative complications can be reduced without sacrificing the treatment efficacy.

Objective To establish mouse poisoning model by inhaling benzene, and to investigate the induction effect of benzene on the apoptosis of mouse bone marrow cells and its mechanism, and to provide an experimental basis for study on bone marrow toxicity mechanism. Methods 24 male mice were randomly divided into four groups (n=6).The mice in one group were exposed to ambient air (control group)and the mice in the other three groups were exposed to different doses (400,800,1 600 mg·m-3 )of benzene (low, middle and high doses of benzene groups)for 1 5 d in the respective inhalation chambers. At the end of the experiment, the mice were killed. The bone marrow of the mice was obtained. The pathological changes of the bone marrow cells of the mice in various groups were observed under light microscope with HE staining. The apoptotic rates and mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP ) of the mice in various groups were detected by flow cytometry, and the expressions of mitochondrial-deperdent apoptosis related gene proteins were determined with immunohistochemistry method. Results The number of distal and central cells in different doses of benzene groups were significantly reduced, and accompanied by blood sinus expansion in high dose of benzene group. The apoptotic rates of the cells in middle and high doses of benzene groups were obviously higher than that in control group (Ρ<0.01),and there were also significant differences between high dose group and low, middle doses of benzene groups (Ρ<0.05).The MMP was significantly decreased with the increasing of benzene doses, and there were significant differences between middle, high doses of benzene groups and control group (Ρ<0.05).The number of Bax,CytC positive cells in different doses of benzene groups and the number of Caspase-9,Caspase-3 positive cells in middle and high doses of benzene groups were significantly increased compared with control group(Ρ<0.05);the number of Bcl-2 positive cells in different doses of benzene groups was decreased(Ρ<0.05),and number of Bcl-2 positive cells in middle and high doses of benzene groups was decreased compared with low dose of benzene group (P<0.05). Conclusion Benzene with certain dose can induce the apoptosis of mouse bone marrow cells, and promote the expressions of mitochondrial apoptosis related gene proteins. Benzene-induced apoptosis through mitochondrial-dependent apoptosis pathway may be an important mechanism of bone marrow toxicity induced by benzene.
