Objective To understand the effect of cerium on the activity of SOD and CAT in Drosophila melanogaster. Methods Drosophila melanogasters were treated with cerium by adding cerium sulfate [Ce(SO4)2] into the culture medium at different concentrations(0,1,4,16,64,256 and 1 024 mg/L).The activity of SOD and CAT of the third-instar larvae were analyzed.Result Compared with the control,at 64-1 024 mg/L,the activity of SOD and CAT in the third-instar larvae significantly decreased and at 1-16 mg/L,the activity of SOD and CAT significantly increased Conclusion It suggested that cerium sulfate [Ce(SO4)2] has an oxidant toxicity to Drosophila melanogaster.

Objective To study the effect of transcranial ultrasound (US) on arterial recanalization in acute ischemic stroke patients. Methods Patients with acute middle cerebral artery (MCA) main stem occlusion after 6 h were randomized into a target group receiving low-frequency,pulse-wave mode, transcranial US for 30 min or a control group. All were treated with intravenous urokinase for thrombolysis.Transcranial doppler sonography (TCD) was used to document vascular occlusion and confirm recanalization at 2 h and 24 h after treatment, and the patients were evaluated using the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale ( NIHSS).Results Recanilization (complete or partial) after 2 hours was significantly higher in the US group (44.4%) compared with the control group ( 10.5% ).Recanalization had occurred in 50% of the US group 24 hours after treatment compared with 15.7% of the controls. At 2 h after treatment,33.3% of the US group and 5.5% of the controls had improved at least 4 points on the NIHSS assessment. After 24 hours the figures were 44.4% and 10.5%.After 3 months,11 subjects from US group (61.1% ) had a modified Rankin score ≤2 compared with 4 subjects (21%) from the control group. Conclusions In acute ischemic stroke, transcranial US has positive effects on recanalization and neural function.

Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 1986;0(06):-
Aim The current study was conducted to investigate the effect of GSTP1 codon 105 polymorphism, alone and in combination with GSTM1-deletion polymorphism, on erythrocyte GST activity in 196 Han Chinese. Methods GST activity was measured in healthy Chinese by a spectrophotometric method (n=196;101 males and 95 females; age range 21~81 years; median 43.5 years). GSTM1 polymorphisms were analyzed by a PCR-Multiplex procedure, whereas GSTP1 polymorphism was analyzed by PCR-RFLP. Results The frequency of GSTM1 null genotype was 56.1% and the frequency of I/I, I/V, and V/V genotypes was 60.7%, 35.2% and 4.1%, respectively, in Han Chinese. The mean erythrocyte GST enzyme activity for I/V genotype group(3.53?0.63 U?g -1Hb) was significantly lower than that for I/I genotypes (4.25?1.07 U?g -1Hb, P=0.000), while significantly higher than that for V/V genotypes (2.44?0.67 U?g -1Hb, P=0.004). In GSTM1(-) group, the GST activity of carriers of GSTM1(-)/GSTP1- I/I is significantly higher than that of GSTM1(-)/GSTP1- I/V or-V/V, however, in GSTM1(+) group, there is no difference between different subgroups. There was no significant difference in the mean GST activity among different age groups. Erythrocyte GST activities were significantly higher in females than in males, but not significantly. Conclusion The GST activity measured by CDNB-based assay is probably strongly correlated with the GSTP1 105Val genotype, although other GST enzymes would tend to dilute the GSTP1 genotype effect.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of a synthetic fifteen-residue peptide, Gly-Thr-Pro-Gly-Pro-Gln-Gly-Ile-Ala-Gly-Gln-Arg-Gly-Val-Val(P-15),on islet cell insulin secretion and insulin gene expression.Wistar rat islets, isolated by collagenase and trypsin digestion, were exposed to 0,0. 72,7.2,36?mol/L P-15 with 16.7mmol/L glucose.Insulin release increased approximately twofold in re- sponse to the concentration of 7.2?mol/L P-15 and Northern-blot analysis of islet mRNA with a rat pre- proinsulin cDNA probe showed a concomitant increase in mRNA level as compared with levels observed in islets treated with control. It is concluded that P-15 not only can stimulate the release of insulin but also in- crease the preproinsulin mRNA expression of islet cells.

Objective To observe the serum γ-glutamyltransferase (γ-GGT) levels in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in different immune status and investigate their relationship with HBV DNA loads and ALT levels. Methods Blood samples were collected from 191 patients with chronic HBV infection in different immune status, including inactive HBV carrier state (group B,n = 55), immune tolerance phase (group C, n=47), HBeAg-negative CHB (group D, n =17), immune-reactive phase (group E, n=72) and 61 healthy individuals ( group A) for the detection of the serum γ-GGT, ALT level and HBV DNA loads. Results γ-GGT level were obviously higher in groups D and E than those in groups of A, B and C (P<0.01). Correlation analysis showed that the γ-GGT levels were positively correlated with serum ALT , AST levels in HBeAg-negative CHB and immune-reactive phase , but not correlated with HBV DNA loads. Conclusions The levels of γ-GGT are different during different immune status in patients with chronic HBV infection. The increased serum γ-GGT level may be an indicator for patients with chronic HBV infection entering immune active phase. The liver inflammation is the major impact factor to the γ-GGT levels.

Ex-RAD (ON01210) is a novel and efficient anti-radiation drug with low toxicity developed by US army and Onconova Pharmaceuticals in recent years. The significant survival advantage and low toxicity of Ex-RAD have contributed to the approval by the FDA as an investigational new drug in December 2008. Meanwhile, the drug is currently in phase I clinical trials in humans. In this paper, the chemical structure, synthesis route, detection method and pharmacological action of Ex-RAD were reviewed, and the appli-cation prospect of Ex-RAD was also explored.

Objective:To explore the application effect of case-based learning (CBL) in teaching magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for non-imaging clinical professional postgraduates. Methods:Eighty non-imaging clinical professional postgraduates who had standardized residency training from 2017 to 2019 were selected as the participants and were randomly divided into two groups, experimental group and control group. The experimental group adopted CBL, and the control group adopted traditional teaching mode. After the standardized training in the radiology department, the differences in image reading scores, theoretical scores and course evaluation were compared between the two groups. SPSS 25.0 statistical software was used for analysis. Independent t test was used for the measurement data of normal distribution, Mann-Whitney U test was used for the measurement data of skewed distribution, and categorical variables were compared by chi-square test. Results:In the reading scores of MRI, the scores of the experimental group and the control group were (82.53 ± 5.72) points and (77.38 ± 6.14) points respectively, and the number of students in the experimental group whose reading scores were between 80-100 segment was 63.6% higher than that in the control group, with significant differences between the two groups ( P < 0.001), but without significant differences in theoretical average scores between the two groups ( P > 0.05). In addition, in the course evaluation, except for the index of learning burden, there were significant differences in other indexes between the experimental group and the control group ( P < 0.05). Conclusion:In the teaching of MRI, the application of the CBL helps non-imaging clinical professional postgraduates improve their MRI diagnostic thinking and independent reading ability.
