2.Effect of Early Rehabilitation on Patients with Spinal Cord Injury
Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2006;12(7):574-575
ObjectiveTo observe the effect of early rehabilitation on motor function and prognosis of the patients with spinal cord injury (SCI).MethodsAccording to started date of rehabilitation, 60 SCI patients were divided into the early rehabilitation group (within two weeks after operation) and control group (three months after operation) with 30 cases in each group. The motor function and activities of daily living (ADL) of all patients were evaluated before and 3 months after treatment, and the incidence rates of complications of two groups were compared.ResultsAfter 3 months treatment, the incidence rates of complications often occurred after SCI such as pulmonary diseases, urinary infection, osteoporosis and adductor, extensor spasticity in the lower limbs etc. were lower than those in the control group. There was a significant difference between two groups. The motor function and ADL of the patients in the early rehabilitation group were better than those of patients in the control group ( P<0.05~0.01).ConclusionEarly rehabilitation after SCI can significantly decrease the incidence rate of complications and improve patient's motor function and ADL.

4.Spinal Locomotor Pattern Generator (review)
Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2006;12(12):1017-1020
It is generally accepted that locomotion in mammals, including humans, is based on the activity of neuronal circuits within the spinal cord (the central pattern generator, CPG). Recent studies indicate a plastic behavior of the spinal neuronal circuits following a spinal cord injuries (SCI). Studies have shown that body weight support treadmill training (BWSTT) is effective in restoring locomotor function in cats with a complete spinal lesion. It has become possible to regain some locomotor activity in patients with spinal cord injury through an intense training on BWSTT, as in cat. So, it is a staired problem how to take advantage of the plasticity of spinal locomotor pattern generator and design the gait training program for SCI patients.

Journal of Practical Stomatology 1995;0(04):-
Objective:To study attachment and proliferation of human periodontal ligment cells(HPDLCs) on demineralized root surface of teeth with periodontitis following EDTA gel application. Methods:44 single-rooted teeth extracted because of severe periodontitis were treated by scaling and root planing(SRP). Then the fragments(5 mm?4 mm) of experimental surfaces were prepared. The fragments were randomly divided into four groups. The root surfaces in group 1,2,3 and 4 were treated by 240 g/L of EDTA gel for 2,3 and 4 min respectively or without treatment(control). Then 1?104 cells were seeded on the surface of each fragment and routinely cultured for 1,3 and 5 days respectively after seeding, the specimens were prepared for microscopic observasion, the cells on the root surfaces were counted. Moreover the other eight fragments were prepared for SEM observasion. Results:HPDLCs attached to and proliferated on all treated surfaces.Group 1, 2 and 3 presented significantly more cells on the root surfaces than the control group did at day 1,3 and 5. The cells on the root surfaces in group 2 and 3 were more than those in group 1 at day 1, 3 and 5. There was no evident difference between group 2 and 3 at any time. The root surfaces in group 2 and 3 had a fibrillar texture associated with an increased diameter of the exposed dentinal tubule openings.Smear layer were observed on root surfaces in group 1. Conclusion:EDTA gel(at 240 g/L) application may enhance attachment and proliferation on root surface of HPDLCs.

To establish induction and liquid culture system for hairy roots of Danshen (Salvia miltiorrhiza), Agrobacterium rhizogenes A4, LBA9402, 15834 as test bacterium were used to infect aseptic leaves of Danshen. The hairy roots were induced and positive transgenic hairy roots were selected with PCR using rolB and rolC as the target gene. Then hairy roots of S. miltiorrhiza were harvested and salvianolic acids were extracted with 70% methanol containing 1% formic acid. The content of salvianolic acid B (SalB) and rosmarinic acid (RA) were determined by HPLC. According to the above research results, the Danshen hairy roots induced by A. rhizogenes LBA9402 were inoculated into the following group of culture media: MSOH, MS, B5, and 6,7-V liquid media. Then the same methods of extraction and determination for the content of Danshen hairy roots were adopted. Last, the hairy roots of S. miltiorrhiza induced by A. rhizogenes LBA9402 were inoculated into the MSOH liquid media with different pH values. The content of salvianolic acid were extracted with 70% methanol containing 1% formic acid and determined by HPLC. As a result, three kinds of A. rhizogenes A4, LBA9402, 15834 could induce hairy roots and Ri plasmids were integrated into the genome of S. miltiorrhiza by PCR. Danshen hairy roots induced by A. rhizogenes LBA9402 and A4 produced much more salvianolic acid, which were (3.27 ± 0.37)% [including (1.04 ±0.36)% of RA and (2.22 ± 0.29)% of SalB] and (3.17 ± 0.20)% [including (0.92 ± 0.31)% of RA and (2.25 ± 0.26)% of SalB], respectively. Hairy roots induced by A. rhizogenes LBA9402 when they were cultured in MSOH liquid media produced much more salvianolic acid, which was (4.56 ± 0.36)%, including (1.12 ± 0.26)% of RA and (3.44 ± 0.23)% of SalB. Hairy roots induced by A. rhizogenes LBA9402 produced the most salvianolic acid when they were cultured in MSOH liquid media with the pH value 4.81, which was 4.85%, including 1.16% of RA and 3.69% of SalB. So Danshen hairy roots induced by A. rhizogenes LBA9402 and A4 produced much more salvianolic acid when they were cultured in MSOH liquid media with the pH value 4.81. The research had established the foundation on genetic engineering to improve the quality of S. miltiorrhiza.

9.Progress on the measurement of corneal biomechanical properties
Qian, WANG ; Lin-Lin, WANG ; Yan, ZHANG ; Shu-Rong, WANG
International Eye Science 2016;16(10):1840-1846
Cornea is the major refractive components of the eye. As a viscoelastic tissue, cornea exhibits complicated biomechanical properties: non - linear elasticity, anisotropy and viscoelasticity. The biomechanical properties play an important role in keeping the normal structureand function. Changes in biomechanical properties are always earlier than the clinical symptoms. So quantitative measurement of the biomechanical properties benefits the early diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Different methods to measure the biomechanical properties of cornea were reviewed in detail, including classic ex vivo destructive tests, commercially available in vivo measuring methods and other emerging methods with the potential for clinical application but not validated for in vivo measurement. The operating principles, advantages as well as limitations of these methods were also described.
