Journal of Modern Laboratory Medicine 2015;(1):72-74
Objective To evaluate the expression and its clinical significance of serum LCN-2 and MMP-9 in human breast cancer. Methods 96 patients with breast cancer,42 patients with benign breast diseases and 27 healthy controls were recrui-ted in this study. The LCN-2 and MMP-9 levels were measured by ELISA in the serum of 96 patients with breast cancer,42 patients with benign breast disease, and 27 health controls. Results The level of serum LCN-2 in the breast cancer group (89.76±28.38 ng/ml)was significantly higher than those in benign breast diseases (56.44±21.15 ng/ml)and healthy controls (44.32±16.84 ng/ml)(P<0.05).The level of serum MMP-9 in the breast cancer group (96.34±23.26 ng/ml) was significantly higher than those in benign breast diseases (28.16±11.57 ng/ml)and healthy controls (23.54±13.61 ng/ml)(P<0.05).No obvious difference in the levels of serum LCN-2 and MMP-9 was observed between benign breast disease and healthy controls (P>0.05).Correlation analysis showed that a positive correlation was found between the levels of serum LCN-2 and MMP-9 in breast cancer patients (r=0.513 5,P<0.05).The levels of serum LCN-2 and MMP-9 were significantly associated with tumor size, lymph node metastasis, the expression of ER and PR,TNM stage, but were not asso-ciated with tumor differentiation (P>0.05).The correlation analysis showed that the LCN-2 level was positive correlated with the MMP-9 level (P<0.05).Conclusion LCN-2 and MMP-9 could play a role in the tumorigenesis and development of breast cancer.Measuring of serum LCN-2 and MMP-9 may be a useful tool for diagnosis, effect monitoring and prognosis in breast cancer.

Objective To evaluate Zeus robot-assisted laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Methods Forty patients were divided into two groups receiving respectively Zeus robot-assisted laparoscopic cholecystectomy (group A, 20 cases), and laparoscopic cholecystectomy (group B, 20 cases). A variety of clinical parameters were evaluated. Compared between these two groups. Results Camera clearing (1.1?1.0) times and time used for operation field adjustment in group A (2.2?0.7) min were significantly less than those in group B (4.5?1.5,7.5?1.2) min. Dissection actions(337?86)times and operative errors(10%) in group A were less than those in group B(389?94) times,25%. The operation time(104.9?20.5) min and setup time (29.5?9.8) min in group A were longer than those in group B (78.6?17.1) min,(12.6?2.5) min. The blood loss, and postoperative hospital stay were similar. There were no postoperative complications in either groups, and conversion to open surgery was done in one each patients. Conclusions Compared with laparoscopic technique, Zeus robotic surgical system offers greater ability of controlling operation field, precise and stable operative manipulations though it requires longer operation time.

were no significant differences in the detection rate of recto-sigmoid colon, mid colon, right colon and total detection of polyps among the 3 groups (P >0.05).Conclusion 4-L split-dose PEG is better than the oth-er 2 regimens in the colon cleansing quality,so it can better reach the intestinal cleaning standards before enteroscopy, which is a more suitable regimen for bowel preparation.

Introduction:
Despite the benefits of cervical cancer screening, Pap smear uptake remains variable in Malaysia, with Johor previously reported as the state with the lowest uptake. This study aims to fill the gap in epidemiological knowledge and assess factors affecting the uptake of Pap smear screening among women in Johor.
Methods:
A cross-sectional study was conducted in several government and private clinics across Johor, including Pagoh, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kulai, and Johor Bahru districts. Data was collected from 452 women using self-administered questionnaires, and logistic regression was performed to determine factors associated with Pap smear uptake.
Results:
Findings showed that 48.5% of the women reported having undergone Pap smear screening in the previous 3 years, and 40.0% and 51.3% of respondents accurately answered questions on symptoms and risk factors of cervical cancer, respectively. Increasing age (ORadj 2.322, 95% CI 1.708–3.158), being married (ORadj 4.860, 95% CI 1.100–21.476), parity of ≥5 (ORadj 8.381, 95% CI 1.326–52.958), young age at first pregnancy (ORadj 0.932, 95% CI 0.877–0.991), knowledge of cervical cancer symptoms (ORadj 1.745, 95% CI 1.065–2.857), support from family (ORadj 3.620, 95% CI 2.081–6.298), and contraception use (ORadj 2.220, 95% CI 1.314–3.750) were significantly associated with increased Pap smear uptake among women visiting outpatient clinics in Johor.
Conclusion
Pap smear uptake remains suboptimal in Johor, and broad-based awareness campaigns tailored towards improving knowledge of cervical cancer with family involvement are crucial to improving uptake among women in Johor.
