BACKGROUND: Matrix metal oproteinase inhibitor 1 plays an important role in the inhibition of articular cartilage degeneration and destruction.
OBJECTIVE: To observe the changes of matrix metal oproteinase inhibitor 1 expression level in synovium of knee osteoarthritis rats after treated with penetration needling of long needle.
METHODS: A total of 40 Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned into normal group, penetration needling group, drug group and model group, with 10 rats in every group. 1.6% papain solution was injected into knee joint cavity of Sprague-Dawley rats. 2 weeks later, knee osteoarthritis models were established. Rats in the normal and model groups did not receive any intervention. In the penetration needling group, rats were treated by penetration needling with 0.3 mm×125.0 mm filiform needle. Rats in the drug group were intraarticularly injected with sodium hyaluronate.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay: at 4 weeks after treatment, matrix metal oproteinase inhibitor 1 expression in synovial membrane was higher in the normal group than in the model group (P < 0.05). Matrix metal oproteinase inhibitor 1 expression in synovial membrane was higher in the penetration needling group and drug group than in the model group (P < 0.05). (2) Results verified that long needle penetration therapy can effectively increase matrix metal oproteinase inhibitor 1 expression in synovial membrane of knee osteoarthritis model rats.

Objective To investigate the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the schizophrenia cognition rating scale ( SCoRS) . Methods 112 cases of schizophrenia or schizophreniform disorder inpatients were recruited and assessed using the SCoRS( Chinese version) ,the brief assessment of cognition in schizophrenia (BACS) and personal and social performance scale(PSP). The principle component analysis, reliability analysis and correlation analysis were used to analyze the data. Results Standardized Cronbach α = 0.964. All the 20 i-tems were significantly correlated. Except item 1 ,9,18,19 ( r=0. 830,0. 890,0. 871,0. 890) ,the interrater correlation coefficiency (ICC) of the rest of the items was over 0.9. The ICC of global rating scores between two raters was 0. 921. Factor analysis procedure identified three factors. Factor 1 reflected the neurocognitive state; factor 2 reflected the social cognitive state;and factor 3 mainly reflected the daily life function. The SCoRS rating scores were significantly correlated with the BACS and PSP scores. Conclusion The validity and reliability of SCoRS are acceptable. SCoRS is a useful tool for assessing the deficits of the cognitive function for Chinese schizophrenia patients.

Objective Choroidal neovascularization(CNV) is the main cause of blindness in over 50-years-old population. To establish an available CNV animal model is helpful for us to understand the pathogenesis and management of CNV. Purpose of present study was to observe the role of coagulation with different power of diode laser in laser-induced choroidal neovascularization model of Brown Norway (BN) rats. Methods Coagulation of 810 nm diode laser(8 - 10 spots for each eye) was performed in 36 male BN rats with the spot diameter 75 μm, shutter time 0. 1 s, power 120 mW, 140 mW and 160 mW, respectively, while 6 normal BN rats were used as contrast. CNV was evaluated by fundus examination, fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA), indocyanine green angiography(ICGA) and light microscope on day 1, 7, 14, 21, 28 and 56 after photocoagulation. Results CNV formed on the 7th day after photocoagulation in 120 mW, 140 mW and 160 mW groups and reached the peak on the 21st day according to FFA and ICGA manifestation. Incidence of CNV in 120 mW, 140 mW and 160 mW group was 51. 3%, 91. 8%, 88. 3% on FFA findings and 51.3%, 92.7%, 93.7% on ICGA findings, respectively. In 7 days after photocoagulation, inflammatory cells increased and CNV formed at the lesion. Photocoagulation plaque became thicker with pigment cells proliferating and migrating on 14 days. After that time, inflammatory cells decreased and more collagen fibers emerged. The CNV reminded till the 56th day after photocoagulation. Conclusion CNV model of BN rats can be successfully created using the different power of diode laser (from 120 through 160 mW). CNV rate under the laser coagulation with 140 mW is higher, indicating that the power of 140 mW may be a suitable parameter for diode laser-induced choroidal neovascularization model of BN rats.
