A nutrition survey, covering a total of 4801 preschool children in 6 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, has been carried out. The objective was to determine the effects of various dietary patterns on the blood hemoglobin, free erythrocyte proporphyrin, and serum ferritin values. The results indicated a high prevalence of iron deficiency (average 51.9%). Iron deficiency anemia was detected in 16.4% of the children examined and the incidence rate was particularly high among infants at the age group of 6 months and one year, which was 28.7% and 22.9% respectively. The dietary patterns were different in the above geographic areas. The results of dietary survey revealed that a low incidence of iron deficiency was found in those children who consumed more animal food and protein.

AIM: To assess the role of surface free radicals and electromotive voltage of fibrous mineral dusts in rabbit pulmonary alveolar macrophage injuries induced by fibrous mineral dusts. METHODS: Changes in cell death ratio, malandialdehyde (MDA) and cellur electrophoresis ratio, lactate dehydrogenate (LDH)and superoxide dismitase(SOD) activities were determined, the technique of cell culture and Scanning electron Microscopy were used to examine the change of membranous permeability, charge and cellular shape. RESULTS: Fibrous wollastonite and tabulate clinoptilolite, which had no OH-, had no cytotoxicity, while fibrous sepiolite, fibrous palygorskite, fibrous brucite and chrysolite asbestos damaged pulmonary alveolar macrophages in various degrees because of the different OH- levels. All the six fibrous mineral dusts changed the cellular electrophoresis ratio. CONCLUSION: The surface electromotive voltage of fibrous mineral dusts is not an important factor, and the cytotoxicity of them may be related to OH- levels on the mineral dust surface.

Objective: Based on coronary artery calciifcation (CAC) distribution in the rural population of Yunnan province, we further explored the relationship between coronary artery calciifcation score (CACS) and the pulse pressure difference (PPD).
Methods: A randomly stratiifed cluster sampling method was used to study the rural population of Yunnan province and 16-MDCT scan was performed in 212 subjects for evaluating their CAC and calculating CACS. The subjects were divided into 2 sets of groups according to the age and CACS value. Age (51-60) years group,n=108 and Age (61-71) years group,n=104; CACS<1 group,n=162, 1≤CACS<100 group,n=33 and CACS≥100 group,n=17. The PPD level and the relationship between CACS and PPD were compared among different groups.
Results: The average PPD level in Age (61-71) years group was (44.67±13.87) mmHg and in Age (61-71) years group was (50.00±17.44) mmHg,P=0.015, PPD was positively related to age, rs=0.202,P=0.003. The average PPD level in CACS≥100 group, CACS<1 group and 1≤CACS<100 group were (55.22±18.79) mmHg, (46.87±15.46) mmHg and (45.20±15.89) mmHg respectively,P<0.05. The patients with increased PPD level in CACS≥100 group was 47.1%, in CACS<1 group was 17.3% and in 1≤CACS<100 group was 15.2%,P<0.05. Spearman rank correlation analysis indicated that PPD level was positively related to CACS, rs=0.282,P=0.047, with adjusted confounding factors such as age and blood cholesterol level, the PPD was still positively related to CACS.
Conclusion: PPD as a risk factor of coronary artery disease is related to CACS in rural population of Yunnan province, the CACS increased accordingly with the elevated PPD level.

As a key role in mussel defense system, Mytilin is an important antibacterial peptide isolated from the mussel serum. The structural and functional researches on Mytilin showed that the fragment connecting two beta-sheets in a stable beta-hairpin structure was probably required for antimicrobial activity. To elucidate the structural features and the antimicrobial activity of this fragment, we re-designed and synthesized two peptides corresponding to the main mimic structures of Mytilin-1 from Mytilus coruscus, we named these two peptides Mytilin Derived Peptide-1 and Mytilin Derived Peptide-2, respectively. Using a liquid growth inhibition assay, we evaluated their activity towards Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria and fungus. The results showed that both peptides can inhibit the growth of Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria and fungus. Besides, these two peptides showed high stability in heat water and human serum. These works laid the foundation for further research on the molecular mechanism of Mytilin and for further exploitation of antibacterial peptides with lower molecular mass and more stable structure.

Objective To evaluate the effect of TanshinonneⅡA preconditioning on nuclear factor kappa B ( NF-κB ) signaling pathway in N9 cells subjected to oxygen-glucose deprivation and restoration ( OGD∕R) . Methods N9 cells cultured in vitro were divided into 4 groups ( n=16 each) by using a ran-dom number table method: control group ( C group) , OGD∕R group, vehicle group ( V group) and Tanshi-none ⅡA preconditioning group ( TP group) . N9 cells were subjected to O2-glucose deprivation for 4 h fol-lowed by restoration of O2-glucose supply for 24 h to establish the OGD∕R model. Group C receive no treat-ment. In group TP, N9 cells were cultured in medium containing Tanshinone ⅡA ( final concentration 5 mg∕L) for 24 h before the model was established. Dimethyl sulfoxide was added to the culture medium in group V. At the 24 h of reoxygenation, the level of lactate dehydrogenase ( LDH) and nitric oxide ( NO) in culture medium was detected by spectrophotometry, cell apoptosis was assessed by using TUNEL, and the expression of NF-κB in nucleus was detected by Western blot. The apoptosis rate was calculated. Results Compared with group C, the levels of LDH, IL-β, TNF-α and NO in culture medium and apoptosis rate were significantly increased, and the expression of NF-κB in nucleus was up-regulated in OGD∕R, V and TP groups ( P<0. 05) . Compared with group OGD∕R, the levels of LDH, IL-β, TNF-αand NO in culture me-dium and apoptosis rate were significantly decreased, and the expression of NF-κB in nucleus was down-reg-ulated in group TP ( P<0. 05) , and no significant change was found in the parameters mentioned above in group V ( P>0. 05 ) . Conclusion The mechanism by which Tanshinonne ⅡA preconditioning reduces OGD∕R injury to N9 cells is related to inhibiting NF-κB signaling pathway.

Objective:To investigate the efficacy, safety and recurrence rate of oral atenolol in the treatment of infantile hemangioma, so as to provide evidence-based medicine basis and reference for clinic. Methods:Search on the following public databases from January 1, 2008 to June 13, 2022: Web of Science, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, U. S. National Library of Medicine Clinical Trials Registry Platform; China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI), Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System(SinoMed), Chinese Science and Technology Journal Database and Wanfang Data. According to inclusion and exclusion criteria, studies on oral atenolol for the treatment of infantile hemangioma were selected. The outcome indicators were efficiency (complete response rate), incidence of adverse effects and recurrence rate. The single-arm meta-analysis was performed using R software version 4.1.2. Egger’s test was employed and funnel plots were drawn to assess publication bias in the literature. Results:A total of 14 studies were included, comprising 5 randomized controlled trials, 5 single-arm studies, 3 non-randomized controlled trials, and 1 case-control study. The oral administration of atenolol for the treatment of infantile hemangiomas resulted in an efficacy rate (complete remission rate) of 62% (95% CI 52%~71%). The incidence rate of adverse reactions related to the digestive system was 18% (95% CI 7%~30%), while that related to β2 receptor blockade was 4% (95% CI 2%~6%), central nervous system-related adverse reactions occurred at a rate of 10% (95% CI 5%~16%), the recurrence rate was 5% (95% CI 2%~9%). Egger’s test indicated that there was no significant publication bias in the efficacy rate, central nervous system-related adverse reaction rate, and gastrointestinal-related adverse reaction rate of oral atenolol treatment for infantile hemangiomas ( P>0.05). The sensitivity analysis for the efficacy rate, adverse reaction rate, and recurrence rate of oral atenolol treatment for infantile hemangiomas suggested that the result were stable and reliable. Conclusion:Oral administration of atenolol for the treatment of infantile hemangiomas demonstrates significant efficacy, fewer adverse reactions, and a low recurrence rate, making it a promising candidate as a reasonable alternative to oral propranolol for treating infantile hemangiomas.
