Objective To observe the effect of acupuncture plus early-stage rehabilitation training on the neurological function and levels of serum ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) in patients with acute cerebral infarction.Method Sixty-eight patients with acute cerebral infarction were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 34 cases each. The control group was intervened by conventional medications, while the treatment group was intervened by acupuncture plus early-stage rehabilitation training in addition to the medications given to the control group. The two groups were both treated once a day, 10 d as a treatment course. Three treatment courses later, the changes of serum IMA and NSE levels were observed; the Modified Edinburgh-Scandinavian Stroke Scale (MESSS), Barthel Index (BI) and Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) scores were compared before and after the treatment.Result The MESSS, BI and FMA scores were significantly changed in both groups after the intervention (P<0.01). After the intervention, the MESSS, BI and FMA scores in the treatment group were significantly different from those in the control group (P<0.05). The serum IMA and NSE levels were significantly changed in both groups after the intervention (P<0.01). After the treatment, the serum IMA and NSE levels in the treatment group were markedly lower than those in the control group (P<0.01).Conclusion Acupuncture medication combined plus early-stage rehabilitation training can promote the recovery of neurological function of acute cerebral infarction patients, which is related to the down-regulation of serum NSE and IMA levels.

Objective To investigate gene expression of epidermal growth factor (EGF), its receptor (EGFR) and two protooncogenes (c-fos and c-myc), in fetal skin at different development stages and children skin and to delineate their potential biological significance. Methods Fetal skin biopsies of human embryo were obtained from spontaneous abortions at different gestational ages from 13 to 32 weeks and children skin specimens were collected from patients undergoing plastic surgery. After morphological characteristics of skin at different development stages were detected with histological methods, gene expressions of EGF, EGFR, c-fos and c-myc in skin at different development stages were examined with reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction analysis (RT-PCR). Results Gene expression of EGF, EGFR, c-fos or c-myc could all be detected in fetal and childern skins. In fetal skin, the gene expression of these 4 genes was weak. Gene expression of these genes in skin was progressively enhanced with increasing gestational age. In children skin, the mRNA contents of these 4 genes were significantly increased in comparison with those in fetal skin (P

Objective To explore the change in gene expression of extracellular signal regulated protein kinase1 (erk1),erk2,p38MAPK and 3 c-Jun N- terminal kinases (jnk1,jnk2,jnk3) in fetal skin at different developmental stages and children skin. Methods After morphological characteristics of fetal skin at different developmental stages were examined histologically, gene expressions of erk1,erk2,p38MAPK,jnk1,jnk2 and jnk3 were determined with reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction analysis (RT-PCR). Results Compared with early gestational fetal skin, the levels of gene expression of erk1 and erk2 showed no substantial change in late gestational fetal skin, while the contents of transcripts of p38MAPK and jnk1 were significantly decreased, the expressions of mRNA of jnk2 and jnk3 were obviously elevated. In children skin, gene expressions of erk2,p38MAPK and jnk1 were even more remarkably lowered. In contrary, gene expressions of jnk2 and jnk3 were marked enhanced. Conclusion The relative elevation of gene transcription of erk2 and p38MAPK and the inhibition of gene expression of jnk2 and jnk3 in fetal skin of earlier developmental stage might be related to fetal scarless healing.

Objective To study the differentially expressed genes between keloids and normal control skin using cDNA microarray. Methods The PCR products of 8400 human genes were spotted on a chemical-material-coated-glass plate in array. Total RNAs were isolated from the freshly excised human keloids and normal control skin, and then were purified to mRNAs,which were reversely transcribed to cDNAs with the incorporations of fluorescent dUTP,for preparing the hybridization probes. The mixed probes were hybridized to the cDNA microarray. According to the results of cDNA microarray, three genes (NGF,TGF-?_ 1 and c-myc) were chosen to study their differential expression in keloids and normal control skin by RT-PCR. Results Among the 8400 target genes, there were 402 genes with different expression (4.75%),and they were mainly associated with extracellular matrix genes, cellular signal molecule genes and cellular skeleton molecule genes. Analysis of collagen related molecule and growth factor gene expression confirmed that our molecular data obtained by cDNA microarray were consistent with published biochemical and clinical observations of keloids. RT-PCR showed that the levels of gene expression of NGF,TGF-?_ 1 and c-myc were all higher in keloids than those in normal control skin. Conclusion Many genes were found to be involved in the formation of keloids. Further analysis of the obtained genes might contribute to reveal the molecular mechanism of keloids formation,in which NGF,TGF-?_ 1 and c-myc might play important roles.

Objective To study the changes of IL 2 and IL 6 levels and lymphocyte DNA damage in peripheral blood of dog intoxicated by sulfur mustard. Methods Chongqing dogs were subcutaneously injected with sulfur mustard at the dose of 16 mg/kg. Lymphocytes and serum were isolated from dog peripheral blood at different time points as designed. The IL 2 and IL 6 levels in blood serum were measured by radioimmunoassay and lymphocyte DNA damage represented as comet tail length was determined by single cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE). Results Four hours after administration of sulfur mustard, the serum IL 2 and IL 6 levels dogs injected with sulfur mustard decreased and reached the lowest level at 72 h. A significant recovery was found at the time point of 120 h. SCG revealed sulfur mustard induced DNA fragmentation (comet) in dog peripheral lymphocytes. The rate of the damaged lymphocytes and the degree of DNA fragment migration began to increase at 4 h and progressively increased from 24 h to 72 h after sulfur mustard treatment. Conclusion Sulfur mustard intoxication induces early and long lasting decreases in serum IL 2 and IL 6 levels and lymphocyte DNA fragmentation in dog peripheral blood.

AIM: To investigate gene expression of bax, bcl-2 and p53 in fetal skin at different gestational ages and children skin in order to explore their potentially biological significance. METHODS: Apoptosis in skin specimens was determined by terminal deoxynucleotidy transferase mediated dUTP-biotin nick-end labeling technique (TUNEL). Gene expressions of bax, bcl-2 and p53 in skin at different developmental stages was examined with reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). RESULTS: Along with fetal growth and development, the incidence rate of apoptosis was increased progressively in skin. In skin from early gestational fetus, bcl-2 was strongly expressed. This gene expression was progressively decreased with increment in gestational age. In children skin, the mRNA content of this gene was significantly reduced compared with fetal skin (P

Objective To investigate the effects of hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) on the complications and outcomes after renal transplantation. Methods Clinical data of 402 renal transplant recipients maintained on dialysis for more than 3 months were retrospectively studied and divided into 2 groups: HD group(n=303)and PD group(n=99). Among them, 345 recipients were followed up for an average of (30.2±15.2) months. The impact of HD and PD on the acute rejection, delayed graft function (DGF), infection, chronic rejection and the graft and patient survival rates were analyzed. Results The mean dialysis duration was significantly longer in PD group and the hepatitis B infection rate was significantly higher in HD group. There were no signiticant differences between the HD and PD groups in regarding to primary disease for end-stage renal disease, age, gender, blood pressure, hemoglobin, HLA match, hot and cold ischemia time, and hepatitis C vires infection. The incidence of DGF, acute and chronic rejection, and cytomegalovirus and other infections between HD and PD groups were not significantly different. However, the graft loss happened more frequently in hepatatis B patients than that in non hepatitis B patients (19.23% vs 8.86%, P=0.021), and the post-transplant infection ocurred less in non hepatits B patients with PD. The acute rejection episodes were higher in HD patients who received pretransplant dialysis for more than 12 months (P<0.05). The overall recipients survival rates of HD and PD groups were similar (1-year: HD 94.34%, PD 91.25%;5-year: HD 92.83%, PD 90%), and the same as the graft survival rates in HD and PD groups (1-year: HD 93.21%, PD 96.25%;5-year: HD 87.17%, PD 91.25%). Conclusions The influences of PD and HD on the complications after renal transplantaton, 1-year and S-year recipients and graft survival rates are similar, so both HD and PD can be chosen as the pretransplant dialysis modality. As the incidence of acute rejection increases with time in HD, it is better to shorten the time of pretransplant dialysis to decrease the complication.

Objective To observe the therapeutic efficacy and action mechanism of muscle-region alignment electroacupuncture in treating post-stroke shoulder pain. Method Eighty patients were randomized into a muscle-region alignment needling group and a conventional acupuncture group. The Short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ), and serum levels of IL-6, TNF-?, and NO were majorly observed before and after the treatment. Result The muscle-region alignment electroacupuncture and conventional acupuncture both obviously reduced the SF-MPQ score and down-regulated the serum levels of IL-6, TNF-?, and NO, and the decreases by the muscle-region alignment electroacupuncture were more significant than that by the conventional acupuncture. Conclusion The action of muscle-region alignment electroacupuncture in treating post-stroke shoulder pain is plausibly by down-regulating serum levels of IL-6, TNF-?, and NO, reducing or inhibiting the production of inflammatory factors and restraining inflammation.
