Objective] To prove the modified Maxingshigan Decoction(modified MXSGD) intervening radiation induced lung injury(RILI) through the TGF-β/Smad signaling pathway by selectively silencing the TGF-β1 gene. [Methods] (1)Total of 18 clean SD rats were randomly divided into two groups:Chinese medicine group treated with modified MXSGD and normal control group treated with saline. The serum was made after 3 days of taking drugs to prepare medicated serum. (2) The alveolar typeⅡcells were cultured. The total dose of radiation to cell was 8Gy, frequency 3.64Gy/min. The medicated serum was given to each group respectively. (3) After silencing TGF-β1 gene with RNA interference technology, the level of TGF-β1, PAI-1, CTGFmRNA was analyzed by PCR and the protein expression of Smads was measured by Western-blot. [Results] (1) Compared with rat serum group, the expressions of TGF-β1 mRNA, P-Smad2 in 10%medicated serum group were down-regulation or deceased(P<0.05).(2) Compared with rat serum group, the transcription levels of TGF-β1, and PAI-1 and CTGF were obviously suppressed after silencing TGF-β gene(P<0.05). (3) There was no significance effect on the expression of P-Smad2, P-Smad3, PAI-1mRNA and CTGF mRNA in both 10%medicated serum+siRNA group and rat serum+siRNA group(P>0.05). (4) Compared with rat serum+siRNA, the expression of Smad6 and Smad7 was increased in 10%medicated serum+siRNA group. The differences between the two groups were significant(P<0.05, P<0.01). [Conclusion] Modified MXSGD may intervene the RILI by regulating TGF-β/Smad signaling pathway.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of ethanol extracts of Panax notoginseng on the tumor and the liver metastasis in experimental mice grafted with B16 melanoma. METHODS: B16 melanoma was transplanted in the spleen of C57BL/6 mice. The effects of different doses of ethanol extracts of Panax notoginseng on the inhibition rate of spleen tumors and the liver metastasis were observed respectively. RESULTS: The high-, medium-, and low-doses of the extracts and the interferon-alpha (IFN-alpha) can improve the quality of life of the experimental mice. The weights of spleen tumor were lower in the low- and medium-dose extracts-treated groups and the IFN-alpha-treated group than that in the normal saline (NS)-treated group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). The liver metastasis was less in the low- and medium-dose extracts-treated groups and the IFN-alpha-treated group than that in the NS-treated group (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: The ethanol extracts of Panax notoginseng can improve the quality of life of the experimental mice and inhibit the growth of tumor and the liver metastasis.
4.Professor LIN Shengyou's Treatment of Radiation-Induced Lung Injury Based on the Theory of Pathogenesis Evolution
Journal of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University 2024;48(3):312-314
[Objective]To summarize Professor LIN Shengyou's experience in the treatment of radiation-induced lung injury based on the theory of pathogenesis evolution.[Methods]Through clinical visits, organizing medical records, studying ancient and modern literature, starting from the evolution of the disease mechanism, this paper summarizes Professor LIN's clinical experience in application of the theory of pathogenesis evolution in the treatment of radiation-induced lung injury, and provides evidence with a clinical trial.[Results]Because of the special effect of radiation on the human body,Professor LIN believes that the basic pathogenesis of radiation-induced lung injury runs through the whole time, that is,heat evil harms the lung. With the development of the disease, the pathogenesis can be divided into three stages:at the beginning, the evil is flourishing, and the heat is damaging the lung;in the middle stage, the evil causes vital Qi decline, and the heat causes Yin injury first, then the lung and kidney deficiency;over time Yin damage affects Yang, leading to Yin and Yang deficiency. In clinic doctors should grasp the basic pathogenesis, identify the present pathogenesis and deduce the potential pathogenesis.Classic formula Maxing Shigan Decoction can be selected as the basic formula of the disease, added or subtracted according to the pathogenesis of each stage. In the case, according to the law of pathogenesis evolution,Maxing Shigan Decoction was added or subtracted as the main formula, and satisfactory curative effect was obtained.[Conclusion]By differentiating the syndrome of radiation-induced lung injury through the theory of pathogenesis evolution,Professor LIN has unique insights and significant curative effect, which is worthy of further clinical promotion and research.

Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2023;64(19):2045-2048
As a part of the multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment model of malignant tumors, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) plays a unique role in increasing efficiency, reducing toxicity, and preventing recurrence and metastasis. It has been gradually recognized that integrated TCM and western medicine should be used in diagnosis and treatment of tumors. Western medicine such as surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, endocrine therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy may act as the main factors that change the syndromes, as they can induce the changes of the tongue and pulse manifestations and symptoms after acting on the body. It is therefore advised to differentiate and analyze the attributes of yin-yang and cold-heat of western medicine as well as its impact on TCM syndromes, and use Chinese herbal medicinals precisely so as to increase efficiency and reduce toxicity. Moreover, it is better to grasp the syndrome evolution trend of modern medicine and predict the disease tendency, so as to improve the accuracy of syndrome differentiation and treatment in TCM under multi-disciplinary diagnosis and treatment model, and promote the maximization of the benefits of integrated TCM and western medicine in treating tumors.
