Objective To evaluate the effects of probucol combined with atorvastatin medication on blood levels of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL), lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2), and the correlation of their changes in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) undergoing percutaneous poronary intervention (PCI). Methods A total of 97 patients with ACS and undergoing PCI were randomly divided into two groups according to the date of admission:single medication group (n=42),the patients were taken atorvastatin 20 mg/d; and combined medication group (n=55),the patients were taken atorvastatin 20 mg/d with probucol 500 mg/d. The plasma levels of ox-LDL and Lp-PLA2 were measured in both groups before and 6-8 weeks after the medication. Then the results were compared and analyzed between two groups. Results (1) Before treatment there were no significant differences in levels of ox-LDL and Lp-PLA2 between two groups (P>0.05). After the treatment, the ox-LDL level was significantly decreased in combined medication group (P<0.01). After the treatment, the levels of Lp-PLA2 were significantly decreased than those before treatment in both groups (P<0.01). Compared with single medication group, levels of ox-LDL and Lp-PLA2 were significantly lower in combined medication group (P < 0.01). (2) After treatment, the absolute value of Lp-PLA2 decline (ΔLp-PLA2) was positively correlated with the absolute value of ox-LDL decline (Δox-LDL) in combined medication group (r=0.314, P=0.020). Conclusion Probucol combined with statin therapy can reduce ox-LDL and Lp-PLA2 levels, and with a positive correlation between them. Probucol can further decrease the level of Lp-PLA2 by inhibiting ox-LDL production, which may be one of the mechanisms of its anti-atherosclerosis.

Dysarthric patients often present velopharyngeal incompetence (VPI), characterized nasalization articulation for hypernasality, which seriously impaired their communication. Research of evaluation of VPI is mainly about cleft palate and postoperative, few about the dysarthria. Some approaches, such as physiologic approach to rehabilitation, have been used to correct hypernasality, and prosthesis, such as palatal lift prosthesis (PLP) and nasal speaking valve (NSV), are also proved effectively. PLP has been widely used for hypernasality oversea, but fewer in China.

OBJECTIVE: To study the association between superior mesenteric artery hemodynamic indexes and scores of lower gastrointestinal symptoms rating scales(LGSRS) in patients with type 2 diabetic mellitus. METHODS: Totally 142 inpatients with type 2 diabetes with average age of 58.76±12.32 yrs were enrolled, who were treated from August 2016 to March 2018. The history, gender, age, course and BMI were recorded, and fasting blood glucose(FBG), glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c), 2-hour postprandial blood glucose(PBG), total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG), urine ACR and LGSRS were determined. Ultrasonic scanning of mesenteric artery was performed for hemodynamic indexes, including artery inner diameter(ID), peak systolic velocity(PSV), end-diastolic velocity(EDV), and resistance index(RI)at starting part, first level branch, and second level branch from root of the superior mesenteric artery(SMA).Patients were divided into 2 groups according to their LGSRS, 74 patients with LGSRS≥6 were in positive group, and 68 patients with LGSRS<6 were in control group. RESULTS: 1. There were no significant differences between the 2 groups in gender, BMI, HbA1C, FBG, PBG,TC or TG(P>0.05), but the age and DD were significantly higher in positive group than in control group(P<0.05). 2. There were three patients(4.41%) who had atheroma or plaques in SMA in control group, while five patients in positive group(6.76%)(P>0.05). 3. There were no significant difference between positive group and control group in ID at starting part and first level branch of SMA, while ID at second level branch was significantly increased in positive group compared with control group [(3.83±0.85)mm vs.(3.53±0.90)mm, P<0.05)].4. RI at first(0.816±0.059 vs 0.842±0.063,P<0.05) and second level branch(0.813±0.076 vs 0.845±0.073, P<0.05) and PSV at first level branch[(110.89±46.89)cm/s vs(95.72±36.59)cm/s,P<0.05] were significantly high in positive group; there were no difference in other hemodynamic indexes between the groups. 5.Adjusted by age,DD,glycemic and lipidemic profile,Logistic regression showed that ID at first(RR=2.092,95%CI 1.080-4.050,P=0.029) and second level branch(RR=0.491,95%CI 0.252-0.955,P=0.36) and EDV at second level branch(RR=0.897,95%CI 0.824-0.976,P=0.012) were independent factors influencing LGSRS(P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Ultrosonic hemodynamic abnormalities in the superior mesenteric artery might be important factor in development of lower gastrointestinal tract symptoms in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Objective To investigate the effects of quetiapine on serum levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factors ( BDNF) and the correlation between BDNF and psychiatric symptoms and cognitive function in patients with first-episode schizophrenia. Methods Eighty patients with first-episode schizophrenia ( treatment group) were treated with quetiapine orally for 4 weeks,at initial dose of 100 mg·d-1 and average dose of (580±120) mg·d-1 . The psychiatric symptoms were evaluated by using the positive and negative syndrome scale ( PANSS) . The cognitive function was assessed by using Wisconsin cards sort test ( WCST) . The serum BDNF level was detected with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay ( ELISA) . Results The serum level of BDNF was markedly lower in schizophrenic patients before[(13. 72±8. 79) ng·mL-1,P<0. 01] and after treatment[(18. 02±9.06) ng·mL-1,P<0.05]in comparison with normal controls(23. 67±10. 13) ng·mL-1]. After treatment, the PANSS total scores and subscale scores decreased,WCST number of categories and the number of correct answers increased, and the number of wrong answers reduced. There was a positive correlation between the serum BDNF and negative symptoms ( SANS) ( r= 0. 54, P=0. 032),and the number of correct answers. Conclusion The quetiapine significantly increases serum level of BDNF in schizophrenia patients, which correlates positively with improvements in symptoms and cognitive function.

Objective:To investigate the inhibitory effect of adenovirus-mediated recombinant Buthus martensii Karsch chloride toxin artifact (Ad-rBmK CTa) on human glioma U251 cells and its related mechanisms. Methods:Groups of 3 titer gradients of 3.5×10 9, 7.0×10 9 and 3.5×10 10 pfu/ml Ad-rBmK CTa were set up and applied to U251 cells for 24, 48 and 72 h, and a blank control group (no cells and Ad-rBmK CTa were added) and a negative control group (only U251 cells were added) were set up at the same time. The virus infection status was observed by laser confocal fluorescence microscopy. The cell proliferation in each group was detected by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay. The cell cycle and apoptosis in each group were detected by flow cytometry. The expressions of apoptosis-related proteins bax, bcl-2 and caspase-3 were detected by Western blot. Results:The infection rate of Ad-rBmK CTa was over 90% after acting on U251 cells for 24 h. As the titer of Ad-rBmK CTa increased, the proliferation inhibition rate of U251 cells treated for the same hours gradually increased (all P <0.01); with the extension of time, the proliferation inhibition rate of U251 cells treated with the same titer of Ad-rBmK CTa also gradually increased (all P < 0.01). After 7.0×10 9 pfu/ml Ad-rBmK CTa acted on U251 cells for 48 h, the proportion of cells in G 0/G 1 phase was (40.7±0.8)%, and cells in S phase and G 2 phase accounted for (35.7±0.6)% and (23.6±1.4)%, and the difference was statistically significant ( F = 225.119, P < 0.01). When 7.0×10 9 pfu/ml Ad-rBmK CTa acted on U251 cells for 24, 48 and 72 h, the apoptosis rates were (7.4±1.4)%, (19.2±1.7)% and (22.3±1.7)% ( F = 49.470, P < 0.01). After 7.0×10 9 pfu/ml Ad-rBmK CTa acted on U251 cells for 48 h, compared with the negative control group, the expressions of bax and caspase-3 proteins increased, and the expressions of bcl-2 decreased. Conclusions:Ad-rBmK CTa may act on the DNA damage-induced G 1/S detection site to arrest the cell cycle in G 0/G 1 phase, thus inhibiting the proliferation of U251 cells in vitro. However, its induction of apoptosis in U251 cells is not obvious. The mechanism may be related to the direct or indirect inhibition of chloride ion channels.
