Objective To review the results of limb lengthening over an intramedullary nail in management of femoral defect and length discrepancy. Methods Femoral lengthening over an antegrade intramedullary nail was applied to treat length discrepancy of 4 to 7 cm for three cases, and femoral defects of 8 and 11 cm respectively for two cases from January 2001 to December 2003.The nail and an external fixator(Ilizarov external fixator for bone defect and Orthofix limb-reconstruction system for discrepancy)were applied concomitantly at the time of femoral osteotomy. After a mean fixation time of 16.2 days(13 to 24 days),gradual distraction began at a rate of 0.25 millimeter four times a day. When the managed femur reached the expected length, the nail was locked and the fixator was removed in patients with length discrepancy. The procedure was not finished in patients with bone defects until bony consolidation was partially seen. Results All the patients were followed up for a mean time of 36.4 months(range,22 to 47 months). The mean gain in length was 7.2 cm(range,4 to 10 cm)with good consoli- dation, the mean duration of external fixation was 5 months(range,3 to 8 months),and the mean external fixation index was 0.75 month per centimeter(range,0.57 to 1.00 month per centimeter).Neither axial deviation nor re-fracture occurred. At the last follow-up,the mean range of movement of knee was 107?(80?to 135?).Con- clusions In management of defect and length discrepancy of limbs, lengthening over an intramedullary nail has the advantages of short duration of external fixation, good protection against refracture, and earlier rehabilitation of knee joint,as well as disadvantages of long operation time, massive intraoperative bleeding, high cost and much post- operative scarring.

Objective: To investigate the effect of oat?-glucan on colon flora and its function in mice. Method:126 Kunming mice(23-25g)were divided into seven groups (18 mice in each). The group 1 and 2, 3 and 4 ,5 and 6 were respectively administered oat?-glucan (OG2600 , OG340 and OG5) at dose of 0.25 and 0.5g/(kg bw?d)daily for 28 d. The control group received the equal volume of normal saline. Bifidobacterium , Lactobacillus and Enterobacillus were monitored in colon after oral administration of oat ?-glucan at 14 d, 28 d and 35 d (after terminating oat?-glucan admimistration for 1 w) . The contents of short chain fatty acids (SCFA) in colon were analyzed by GC and cell proliferation in colonic mucosa epithelium by FCM in each group. ResuIts:The numbers of Bifidobacterium , Lactobacillus compared with the control were significantly increased and Enterobacillus strains were decreased in experimental groups. Oat ?-glucan had the function of regulating intestinal flora and the effect was related to molecular weight and dosage. The contents of acetate, propionate, butyrate were higher in the group 2, 4 and 6 compared with the control (P

Journal of Preventive Medicine 2019;31(3):260-264
Objective :
To assess the health risks of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)exposed through cereal, fried and grilled foods in Hangzhou.
Methods :
A cross-sectional study was conducted to collect food consumption data of three inconsecutive days among 1 769 subjects selected by probability proportional to size sampling method from two districts in Hangzhou.Fifty samples of fried and grilled food and twenty samples of cereal were collected from five districts in Hangzhou. They were tested for B(a)P,PAH2,PAH4 and PAH8 by high performance liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The probabilistic models were established for the evaluation of PAHs exposure by @risk software and then margin of exposure(MOE)was calculated.
Results :
The contents of B(a)P in one sample of fried and grilled food exceeded the limit. The median contents of PAHs ranged from 0.20 to 3.64 μg/kg. The median exposures of B(a)P,PAH2 and PAH4 from both two kinds of foods were 1.54,3.54 and 8.13 ng/(kgbw·d)in the mixed model,1.61,3.76 and 8.09 ng/(kgbw·d)in the non-parameter model. The MOEs of≤95% PAHs exposure level in one kind of food or ≤90% PAHs exposure level in both kinds of foods were more than 10 000. The MOEs of ≥97.5% exposure level of B(a)P,≥95% exposure levels of PAH2 and PAH4 in both kinds of foods in the mixed model, and ≥95% exposure levels of B(a)P,PAH2,PAH4 in both kinds of foods in the non-parameter model were less than 10 000.
Conclusion
The health risk of PAHs exposure was very low in more than 90% of the population in Hangzhou. However, for high-end consumers,97.5% or 99% exposure level in one kind of food and 95% exposure level in both kinds of foods had a potential health risk.

BACKGROUND:Someone regards that treatments such as root canal therapy and post-core restoration can increase the fracture probability of teeth. Can fiber reinforced composite post enhance the fracture resistance of the severe wedge-shaped defected premolar? Three-dimensional finite element can simplify complex dental systems into a model analyzed by computer, and conduct biomechanical research through the model analysis. OBJECTIVE:To analyze the stress distribution of sever wedge-shaped defected first premolar which restored by fiber reinforced composite post and composite resin. METHODS:We established the three-dimensional finite element models of severe wedge-shaped defected maxil ary first premolar before and after restoration with fiber reinforced composite post and composite resin. The maximum bite force was designed to 267 N that was applied at 45° angle. Then, we analyzed the distribution of maximum principal stress in finite element models. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The maximum principal stress was concentrated in the tip of defected region. After restoration, the distribution of maximum principal stress was similar to that of the normal premolar, and the tensile stress was distributed uniformly in the upper-central part of buccal root. It may be beneficial for improving fracture resistance ability of severe wedge-shaped-defect premolar by restoration with fiber reinforced composite post and composite resin.
