Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 1982;0(01):-
A large series of lens were collected from normal and senile cataractous human eyes, and were investigated according to the theories of oxyradical and lipid peroxide (LPO). The findings showed that the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and catalase in the senile cataractous lens were very significantly lower than those in the normal ones, while the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in the lens of senile cataractous eyes was very significantly higher than that of normal eyes. The results suggest that the oxyradical and LPO might be one of the direct causes leading to senile cataract formation.

Objective To explore the effect of α-phenyl-N-tert-butylinitrone (PBN) on expression of nerve growth factor (NGF) in serum and spinal cord tissue in rats after spinal cord injury (SCI). Methods 174 female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to following groups: normal control group (n=54), normal saline control group (NS group, n=60, intrathecally injected normal saline 15 μl), and PBN group (n=60, intrathecally injected PBN, 3 mg, 15 μl). The model was established with New York University blow device (150 kDyne, 1 s dwell time). PBN was intrathecally injected into the damaged areas 30 min after operation, then once a day for 7 days. The Basso-Beattie-Bresnahan (BBB) Locomotor Rating Scale was used to assess the rats 3 days and 1 day before, and 1 day, 5 days, 10 days, 15 days, 20 days,25 days, 30 days and 35 days after SCI. NGF in the injured spinal cord tissue and serum was measured 1 h, 12 h, 24 h, 48 h, 3 days, 7 days,14 days and 21 days after SCI. Results NGF increased in serum but not in spinal cord. The ratio of NGF/total protein in serum rose and peaked 48 h after SCI, and the ratio was higher in NS group (0.92%±0.02%) than in PBN group (0.77%±0.05%) (P=0.021). BBB scores increased from the 9th day, and PBN group improved better than NS group (P<0.01). Conclusion PBN could reduce the expression of NGF in the SCI rats, and promote the recovery of neurol function.

Objective To investigate the stimulated proliferation of colon cancer cells in co-cultures of regenerating hepatocytes. Methods Regenerating hepatocytes(24 hours after partial hepatectomy)were obtained by collagenase perfusion of models of rats undergoing 70% liver resection. To determine whether the ratio of human colon cell line SW480 cells to hepatocytes in co-cultures has influence on their interaction, these cells were cultured in ratios of 1: 101:1, or 10: 1. Proliferation capacity was assessed by the percentage of 3 H-TdR incorporation. Expression of epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR), insulin-like growth factor1 receptor(IGF-1R)and hepatocyte growth factor receptor(c-met) were analyzed by western blot. Results For co-cultured SW480 and hepatocytes in the ratios of 1: 1 and 1: 10, an increase of disintegrations per minute(dpm) occurred after 72 hours' culture, and lasted at 120 hours' culture(P < 0.05). No difference was found between the group with ratio of 10:1 and control group. Protein levels of EGFR and IGF-1R, but not c-met, were significantly increased between culture of 24 hours and 120 hours; however, no change of these receptors was found in the ratio of 10: 1. Conclusions These results imply that co-culturing human colon cancer cells with regenerating hepatocytes leads to increased expression of EGFR and IGF-1R. We conclude that this effect is probably dependent on paracrine stimulation, by which numerous signals from the hepatocytes contribute to the hyperproliferative state of colon cancer cells via up-regulating the responding receptors.

ObjectiveTo recognize the normal CT appearances of adult pterygoid hamulus and increase the ability to recognize pterygoid hamulus abnormalities. Methods The pterygoid hamulus of 108 normal adults ( male:53 cases,female,55 cases) were studied with MIP and VR reconstructive images by 64-slice spiral CT in order to observe its normal shape,to measure its length, diameter, vertical height, horizontal width, abduct angle in coronal position and post-abducent angle in anteroposterior position. The differences between genders, two sides and age groups were compared, respectively.ResultsThe normal pterygoid hamulus had a wide basal body and a pillar caudomedial part with round or intumescentia extreme. In coronal position, the distal end towards outer direction in 214 sides and 2 sides in inner direction. In anteroposterior position, the distal end towards posterior direction in 190 sides and anterior direction in 26 sides. The pterygoid hamulus length, vertical height, and horizontal width of adult males were (8.18 ± 0.94) mm,(7.23 ±0.92) mm,(4.27 ±0.81 ) mm,respectively. They were larger than the adult females (7.31 ± 1.01) mm,(6.26 ±0.90) mm,(3.97 ±0.82) mm,and the difference was statistically significant (t values were 6.56,7.86,2.72 respectively,P < 0.05).The pterygoid hamulus vertical height of age group over 60 years old (7.13 ± 1.35) mm exceeded the age groups of 18-39 (6.55 ±0.86) mm.The difference was statistically significant ( F =4.95,P < 0.05 ).Conclusions64-slice spiral CT could display the shape, length and angle of pterygoid hamulus in full. It could help to recognize correlated pterygoid hamulus diseases.

One hundred and fifty femoral head necrosis patients with intramedullary decompression received autologous stem cell transplantation. The blood was taken from unilateral or bilateral iliac, in each group the volumes of blood taken were 200, 300 or 400 ml respectively. The number of mononuclear cells was counted before and after centrifugation. The mononuclear cell count in subgroup of 200 ml,300 ml and 400 ml taken from unilateral iliac after centrifugation was (3. 11 ±1. 42) × 1010/L, (2. 62 ±1. 31 ) × 1010/L and(2. 13 ±. 91) × 1010/L. The concentration was significantly lower in subgroup of 400 ml than that of 200 ml (t=5. 118, P<0. 01). The mononuclear cells count in subgroup of 200 ml,300 ml and 400 ml taken from bilateral iliac was(4. 51 ±. 21) × 1010/L, (3. 89 ±. 06) × 1010/L and (2. 98 ±1. 39) × 1010/L, the concentration was significantly lower in subgroup of 400 ml than that of subgroup of 200 ml (t = 6. 446, P < 0. 01). Whether 200 ml or 300 ml or 400 ml blood were taken, the mononuclear cell count in blood taken from bilateral iliac after centrifugation was significantly higher than that from unilateral iliac(t = 3. 119,P < 0. 01; t = 5. 544, P < 0. 01 ;t = 2. 207 ,P < 0. 05). The results indicate that the concentration of isolated bone marrow mononuclear cells is higher from bilateral iliac than unilateral iliac. The concentration of isolated monocytes is reduced gradually with the increased blood volume.

[Objective] To observe the effect of extract of Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis (ECPT) on nuclear receptor in the proliferation of rat mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) in vitro. [Methods] The rat MSC dissociated from bone marrow by density gradient method were cultured and identified by marking of bromodeoxyuridine (Brdu) and staining of CD44. Then different doses of ECPT (3333, 333.3 and 33.33 ?g/mL) were respectively added into in-vitro cultured MSC for 12, 24, 72 and 120 hours. The expression of retinoic acid receptor-?(RAR?), vitamin D receptor (VDR), estrogen receptor (ER), glucocorticoid receptor (GR), thyroid hormone receptor-?(TR?) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor ?(PPAR?) in MSC was detected by immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence methods. [Results] The number of RAR?-and VDR-positive cells in ECPT groups was higher than that in the control group (P
