We conducted this study, to obtain basic data of lead concentrations in children of Ulsan industrial area and to evaluate the difference in blood lead levels between industrial area and suburban area. The study subjects were composed of 348 school children residing in industrial area and 100 school children of suburban area. There is no difference in age and sex distribution of study participants between industrial and suburban area. The obtained results were as follows: l. The geometric means of blood lead levels of study participants were 4.90 ng/dl, which is lower than current acceptable value 10 ng/dl. 2. The children residing in industrial area had the higher blood lead levels(5.26 ng/dl) than suburban children(3.81 ng/dl) with statistical significance(P<0.001).

4.A Clinical Study of Localized Scleroderma.
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1996;34(1):109-115
BACKGROUND: There has been an increase in incidence of localized scleroderma. However observations on the clinical aspects ot localized scleroderma have been scarce in Korea. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to elucidate the clinical observations and associated diseases of localized scleroderma METHODS: During a 10-year-period from Jan. 1984 to Dec. 1993, 61 patients were evaluated in regard to age incidence, sex ratio, clinical type, location and distribution of plaque and linear type, and associated conditions. RESULTS: l. Age distribution from 4 to 61 years with mean of 27.6 years. Most patients were between 11 to 30 years of age. 2. Sex distribution of male 14 female 47 with 3: 1 ratio in favor of female. 3. No difference in right and left involvement. 4. Plaque and linear forms were predominant. 5. The plaque form was distributed evenly while the linear form involved mainly the head and neck. The linear form and generalized form appeared most frequently in developement of associated conditions. 6. ANA test results were positive in 14 patients and most of them were of the speckled pattern. 7. Of the 41 patients who were treated with d-penicillamine, 26 patients showed improvement of their lesions.

Korean Journal of Psychopharmacology 2005;16(6):498-506
OBJECTIVE: It is well-known that antipsychotics are widely used in the treatment of bipolar disorder. So, the aim of this study was to examine the subjective response to antipsychotics in acute manic patients. METHODS: Data were gathered through the study for feasibility testing of Korean Medication Algorithm for Bipolar Disorder (KAMP-BP), which 17 nationwide clinical centers were entered into the study. A total 126 bipolar patients were enrolled and then 92 were treated according to the treatment algorithm. The data of 58 patients were completely recorded from baseline to 2 weeks of treatment and were entered into analysis. Drug Attitude Inventory-10 (DAI-10) was used for evaluating patient's subjective response to antipsychotics and patients were grouped as subjective non-dysphoric and dysphoric as the total score of DAI-10. For assessing the clinical status, Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS), Clinical Global Impression- Severity scale (CGI-S), Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAM-D), Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) and Liverpool University Neuroleptic Side-Effect Rating Scale (LUNSERS) were used. RESULTS: Dysphoric group was younger and has more females in sex distribution than non-dysphoric group. YMRS and CGI-S were severer in dysphoric group. The prescription patterns were not different between two groups: Combinations of mood stabilizers and antipsychotics were administered to all patients and atypical antipsychotics were prescribed over 90% of the patients. At 2 weeks of treatment, more patients were turned into remission in non-dysphoric group. Dysphoric patients showed more changes of positive subjective response in DAI-10 from baseline and more patients turned toward the non-dysphoric group. CONCLUSION: Although the subjective response to antipsychotics using DAI-10 was not typically characterized in acute manic patients, it seems that atypical antipsychotics may have a role in determining the subjective feelings of the acute bipolar manic patients.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1991;32(1):16-21
The clinical and statistical evaluations of 25 patients(29 eyes) with subluxated lenses which were extracted at St. Mary's hospital from October 1984 to June 1990. The results were as follows: 1. The average age was 41.3 years and the sex distribution was 23 males and 2 females. 2. The causes were divided by 17 eyes(58.6%) with trauma and 12 eyes(41.4%) without trauma. 3. The associated diseases were cataract(9 eyes; 31.0%), glaucoma(6 eyes; 20.7%), retinal detachment(4 eyes; 13.8%) and uveitis(2 eyes; 6.9%). 4. There were 9 eyes(31.0%) in superonasal, 4 eyes(13.8%) in inferotemporal direction of lens displacement. 5. The surgical procedures were intracapsular cataract extraction(22 eyes; 75.9% ), lens aspiration(3 eyes; 10.3% ), extracapsular cataract extraction(1 eye 3.5% ) and pars plana lensectomy with vitrectomy(3 eyes; 10.3%). 6. There were 9 eyes(28.0%) associated with vitreous protrusion and the vitrectomy were done in 20 eyes(62.5% ). 7. Postoperative corrected visual acuity improved fairly. It was the same as preoperative corrected visual acuity in 7 eyes(24.1%), improved in 21 eyes(72.4%) and worse in 1 eye(3.4%).

From January, 1996 to December, 1997, 24 patients with unstable thoracolumbar spine fracture were treated with pedicle screw fixation and posterolateral fusion. The present study is a retrospective analysis on various clinical paramaters such as age, sex distribution, causes of injury, levels of injury and outcomes. The mean follow-up period was 17 months(range, 4-26 months) after their initial operation. Reduction and stabilization was attained without complications. Sixteen patients with Frankel Grade-C,D,E returned to full-time work, but 8 patients with Frankel grade-A, B were not significantly improved. Maximum neurologic recovery can be expected with prompt and adequate decompression, restoration of normal spinal alignment and rigid internal fixation.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1987;28(1):37-42
To know prognosis of Behcet's disease with HLA-Bw 51 antigen, the comparative studies of 24 Behcet's disease were investigatied. Sex distribution was 14 males(58%) and 10 females(42%). The patients were grouped into three clinical types, complete type with 11 cases(45%), and incomplete type with 8 cases(33%) and suspect type with 5 cases(22%), acording to the criteria established by the Behcet's Disease Research Committee in Japan(1982) and were also divided into 3 ocular types according to the location of inflammation, anterior segment type, fundus type and mixed type. They were shared in 10%, 10%, 60% in HLA-Bw 51 negative group and 14%, 22%, 64% in HLA-Bw 51 positive group, respectively. Skin lesion was observed in 30% in HLA-Bw 51 negative group and 70% in HLA-Bw 51 positive group and it was statistically significant(p<0.01). The other general symptoms and the visual acuity between two group were not statistically significant(p>0.1).

Journal of Korean Foot and Ankle Society 2011;15(3):153-158
PURPOSE: This study was performed retrospectively and to compare the clinical outcomes of the surgical management using Antiglide plating and lateral plating for Danis-Weber type B isolated lateral malleolar fractures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between March 2004 and March 2009, 92 patients were followed up for more than 6 months after surgical treatment. 49 patients were treated with Antiglide plating, whereas the remaining 43 patients underwent lateral plating. The results of the two groups were analyzed both radiographically and clinically using Ankle scoring system. RESULTS: Both groups were comparable for age, sex distribution, time to surgery, and operation time. Bone union was noted at average of 8 weeks in all fractures. The mean ankle score was similar in both groups (94% versus 93%). CONCLUSION: Antiglide plating for Danis-Weber type B isolated lateral malleolar fracture is one of the good methods which has some advantages such as early ankle motion, ambulation and smaller operative incision.
