Adenomatoid hyperplasia of the minor salivary glands is a rare clinicopathologic entity with an unknown etiology. The clinical features of the lesion are nodular, non-painful swellings, and the histologic features are aggregates of normal-appearing, salivary gland tissue, in excess of what would be anticipated for the anatomic site. This tumor is of significance because of its clinical resemblance to salivary gland tumors. Although this lesion may occur at any site on the oral mucosa, the labial mucosa is known to be the least common site. We herein report a rare case of adenomatous hyperplasia of the minor salivary glands located on the lower labial mucosa.

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common intraoral salivary gland tumor and characteristically presents as slow painless growth. The cheek are rarely affected site of all pleomorphic adenoma arising from minor salivary glands. In this report, we present the case of a patient with pleomorphic adenoma that affects the cheek. The purpose of this paper is to report this case and review the features of the pleomorphic adenoma occuring in this site.

OBJECTIVETo compare the expression of CCL28 in minor and major salivary glands and clarify the role it plays in IgA secreting by minor salivary glands in oral cavity.

METHODSLabial gland and parotid samples were analyzed with real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR assay for CCL28 mRNA. Rank-sum test was used for data analysis using SPSS 10.0 software package.

RESULTSCCL28 mRNA was abundantly expressed in labial glands of healthy adults. Its expression was higher than that in parotids (P<0.01).

CONCLUSIONThe results of this article suggest that the expression level of CCL28 in labial glands is remarkably higher than that in parotids, which reminds us that the high concentration of IgA in minor salivary glands may be associated with their high expression of CCL28.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is a malignant epithelial tumour of glandular tissue, usually of the major salivary glands. However it can present in the minor salivary glands, especially in the soft palate. We report the case of a 72-year-old Malay female after presentation with sore throat, fever and odynophagia, was diagnosed with mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the soft palate.

Intraductal papilloma is a rare benign salivary gland tumor that occurs most commonly in the minor salivary gland. We recently experienced a case of intraductal papilloma arising from the parotid gland in a 24-year-old woman. Radiologic imaging shows a well-circumscribed unicystic mass in the right parotid gland. Superficial parotidectomy was performed. Micoscopically, the mass has papillary epithelial proliferation within the dilated lumen of the salivary duct. We report this case with a brief review of literature.

The swelling is usually correlated to meals, when salivary secretion is enhanced. Sialolithiasis occurs mainly in the submandibular gland(92%) and to a lesser degree in the parotid gland(6%). The sublingual gland and the minor salivary gland are rarely affected(2%). This is a report of rare case, the authors have experienced, within the left sublingual gland and the minor salivary glands. It is multiple sialolithiasis(about 22 silaoliths) in the sublingual and the minor salivary glands which has very low incidence of sialolithiasis. The pathosis were removed using transoral sialolithotomy with sublingual sialadenectomy.]]>
