2.YAG laser rate for posterior capsular opacification (PCO) using varied IOL materials

Philippine Journal of Ophthalmology 2001;26(2):19-21
This study aims to determine the average span of time for Nd:YAG Capsulotomy for posterior capsular opacification after phacoemulsification using four (4) different posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) materials (acrylic, polymethylmethacrylate, silicone and hydrogel). This is a retrospective, cohort study wherein data from the charts of 46 patients of a single surgeon were tabulated. All the patients underwent a standardized and an uncomplicated phacoemulsification for senile cataracts with posterior chamber IOL insertion. There were a total of 50 IOLs in this study, 8 acrylic, 16 polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), 24 silicone and 2 hydrogel. The average duration before Nd: YAG capsulotomy was necessary for each IOL material were: acrylic 11.91 months, PMMA 14.50 months, silicone 18.25 months and hydrogel 8.125 months. This study revealed that each of the four (4) different IOL materials had no influence on the span of time before the necessity for Nd: YAG capsulotomy. (Author)

3.Finger reconstruction by second toe transfer technique
Ho Chi Minh city Medical Association 2005;10(3):143-146
In the Hospital for Trauma and Orthopedics of Ho Chi Minh city from 1995 to 2004, there were 15 cases (12 male and 3 female) with second toe transfer to replace 8 lost thumbs, 5 lost total long fingers and 2 cases of double toe transfer. Results: All 15 cases had good health and good recovery. The follow-up in 9 patients showed 5 patients in grade 1 recovery and 4 patients in grade 2 recovery according to Pho's evaluation criteria, that means they were useful

Journal of Vietnamese Medicine 1999;232(1):51-52
Composite restoration brings high asthetic results. This technic can be done spread. When well known and caried out by Evicrol with good results, we can use photopolymerisantion composite easily and effectively.

5.Laser application for plastic surgery
Journal of Practical Medicine 2002;435(11):2-9
LASER is an abbreviation of English sentence: "Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation". The first Ruby laser was been constructed successfully in July 1960 by American physicist Theodore Maiman. Just after this event laser has been applied in medicine (1962) initially in ophthalmology and dermatology. Up to now many kinds of laser have been constructed with technological excellence to meet requirements of physiotherapy and surgery. In plastic surgery, the laser application is slowed respect to in the other surgical branches. In this paper the author try to describe the interaction mechanism of laser radiation on the living creatures as well as the popular laser types used in treatment. In Vietnam, high power lasers have been applied since 1992, mostly CO¬2 lasers. Some Nd-YAG and argon lasers are used in several hospitals and clinics. In Center for Bio-medical Physics CO¬¬2¬¬ and Nd: YAG lasers have been used in general and plastic surgery since 1992. 4182 cases were treated mainly for aesthetic purposes, particularly: epidermal and subdermal vascular lesions, dermal pigment lesions, dermal tumors. ¬

6.Botulinum toxin - new choice for aesthetic surgery
Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Information 2005;0(10):30-33
Botulinum toxin type A has been used in clinical practice to treat some myoneural disorders for more than four decades. However, until recently this toxin has been used for aesthetic purpose, to remove and improve wrinkles on the face - one sign of ageing process. The therapy using botulinum toxin gradually takes vital roles in aesthetic surgery because it is simple, with the little side effects and complications. The effectiveness of the treatment can obttain immediately after treatment without interventionsurgery

7.Robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery
Journal Ho Chi Minh Medical 2005;9(1):1-4
There were some advantages of laparoscopic surgery: decrease of hospitalized time, relief of postoperative pain, high aestheticism, less effect to immune responses in body, decrease of recovery time of patients. Laparoscopic surgery has remained several disadvantages of surgical manipulations for surgeons. Robot is a vehicle that helps laparoscopic surgeons overcome this restriction. Robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery has strong points: providing 3D vision, increasing clever and complex level of surgical manipulations, minimizing vibration amplitude of tools, implementation in limited space. Weak points included losing of feeling when touch to surgical tissue, high cost equipment and surgery. Robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery is applied in gynaecological surgeries, urinary surgeries, heart surgeries, general surgery (cholecystectomy, Nissen procedures, etc)

8.Laparoscopic surgery performed at Hue Central Hospital: evaluation on 1161 cases
Journal of Practical Medicine 2005;510(4):44-47
Study on 1161 cases of laparoscopic surgeries at Hue Central Hospital from 1999 to September 2004. Results: laparoscopic surgery was applied, developed and expanded effectively, safely, and economically, etc in many kinds of diseases, with 23 kinds of surgeries were applied for 1139 patients in 5 years. The rate of complications was low (1.75%), with the most severe complication was gallbladder lesion (0.34%), bleeding (0.43%). The rate of laparotomy conversion was 2.15%, mainly due to technical conversions rather than complications. Death rate was 0.09% in cholecystectomy. Laparoscopic surgery is performed in nephrectomy, colectomy, or in the treating of rectal prolapse or genital prolapse, etc, and contributed to break through the new fields of modern surgery.

10.Surgical treatment of relapsed cholelithiasis in Hospital 103
Journal of Practical Medicine 2002;408(2):27-30
162 cases with cholelithiasis received endosurgery for cholelithotomy in which rate of relapsed cholelithotomy was 21% and rate of intrahepatic cholelithiasis was 58.8%. For relapsed cholelithiasis, prepared operation (73.5%) found better than emergency operation. The endoscopy helped the biliary examination and found the residue of stone in the liver. The bilio-intestinal anastomosis type Y (11.8%) indicated for cholelithiasis combined with oddi stenosid, many repeated cholelithotomy and much intrahepatic cholelithiasis.
