3.Research progress of diamond-like carbon films for biomedical use

Diamond-like carbon(DLC)films age characterized by hish wear resistance,low friction coefficients and chemical inertness,and thus hish-corrosion resistance.The properties of DLC can further be modified by incorporating other elements in the films,such as N,F,AS,and so on,to adjust them for specific applications.These properties make the films good candidates as biocompatible coatings for biomedical devices and implants.The review gives an overview of the biomedical chagacteristics of diamond-like carbon films and their potential apphcafions.
4.Effect of hair follicle unit transplantation on wound healing

BACKGROUND: After trauma, dermal sheath cells can directly participate in the repair of dermal injury or transfer into fibroblasts, which join in skin repair. OBJECTIVE: To establish models of rat hair follicles, to investigate and analyze the histology and ultrastructure of dermal component during wound healing, and to explore the potential of hair follicle tissues for dermal healing. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: The control animal experiment was conducted at the Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University from September 2007 to April 2008. MATERIALS: Eighteen Sprague Dawley (SD) rats weighing 200-250 g were used to prepare models of hair follicle units and mini-epidermis transplantation on wound. METHODS: Rat hair follicle units were cut from lateral vibrissa pad skin. Incision was sutured. Vibrissa pad hair follicles were cut with a sharp tool to collect hair follicle with papilla, surrounding tissues and partial surface. Hair follicle units were implanted into the wound, 5-7 units in each wound. Epidermis and some dermic skin were obtained from full-thickness skins of rats in the mini-epidermis transplantation group, and then trimmed into 3?3 mm size, 5-7 mini-epidermis in each wound. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The wound specimens were obtained at the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th weeks postoperatively. Hematoxylin-eosin stain, Picric-sirius red stain and AWMSEM (alkaline water maceration scanning electron microscope) were performed, and observed under a polarization microscope and scanning electron microscope. The images were processed and analyzed with computerized image analysis system. RESULTS: No significant difference in type and quantity of collagen matrix was detected in both groups at the early phase after wounding. The type Ⅲ collagens kept reducing as time elapsed, but type Ⅰ increased. At 5 weeks after wounding, the ratios of types Ⅰ and Ⅲ collagen increased in both groups, especially in the control group. 7.Acupuncture Therapy for Multiple Infarctional Dementia

Purpose To observe the clinical efficacy of combined electro-acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of multiple infarctional dementia. Methods Eighty-eight patients were randomized into two groups:treatment group in which 48 cases were treated by combined electro-acupuncture and moxibustion and control group in which 40 cases were treated by oral administration of Huperzine A. Results The total effective rate was 90% in treatment group and 71% in control group,with a significant difference ( P < 0.05 ); the score of Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE) increased more obviously in treatment group than in control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Combined electro-acupuncture and moxibustion is effective in improving the clinical symptoms of multiple infarctional dementia.
8.Investigation and analysis of the factors on evaporation rate under vacuum drying process

AIM: To investigate law of vacuum drying process and provide basic technical supports for drying process and design of drying machine. METHODS: A batch-drying experiment system was used to continuously record the mass and temperature of the drying sample,then the key effective factors and characteristics of different phase of drying process were obtained based on the analysis of the recorded experimental data. RESULTS: The influence of process parameters on evaporation rate varied in different period of drying process. CONCLUSION: In order to improve the efficiency of the integrated drying process,it's necessary to apply appropriate technical methods according to the characteristics of the process.
