Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2017;21(6):969-974
BACKGROUND:Titanium alloy, a commonly used bone biomaterial, holds good biocompatibility and proper mechanical properties, but without osteointegration ability. Surface bioactive coating of titanium alloy can overcome such problems. OBJECTIVE:To review the application progress of surface bioactive coating on titanium alloys, and to explore the mechanism underlying its osteogenic induction. METHODS:PubMed and CNKI databases were searched for literatures concerning surface bioactive coating on titanium alloys published from January 2000 to March 2016, using the keywords oftitanium, titanium alloys, coating, surface modification, bonein English and Chinese, respectively. Through preliminary analysis, 42 eligible articles were selected. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The surface modification method has undergone the transition from surface roughening, oxidation, acidification treatment to the most widely used biomimetic coating technology. The surface biomimetic coatings of titanium alloys mainly include hydroxyapatite, bioactive glass, zeolite, which have been developed from a single coating to the composite coatings and gradient coatings. What's more, the bioactive factor or/and metal ions in the coating can improve the osteointegration of surface coating. Surface modification for titanium alloys is a complex process, during which, both the osteogenesis ability and the bonding strength between the coating and its substrate cannot be ignored. Improving the fabrication method of existing coatings and exploring new materials of biomimetic coatings are critical to achieve a high-quality surface coating modification.

Objective To evaluate clinical effect of Compound Fanshiliu Recipe(CFR) for the treatment of over-weighted type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM). Methods One hundred and twenty over-weighted T2DM patients were randomized into treatment group and control group, 60 cases in each group. Both groups were given oral use of Metformin Hydrochloride Enteric-Coated Tablets, and additionally the treatment group was treated with CFR orally. The treatment of both groups lasted for 12 continuous weeks. Before and after treatment, we detected the waist circumference (WC), body mass index (BMI), and the levels of fasting blood glucose(FBG), postprandial 2-hour blood glucose(P2hBG), glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c), total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride (TG), and free fatty acid (FFA). The therapeutic effect of the two groups was also evaluated after treatment. Results (1) The total effective rate for traditional Chinese medical symptoms was 95.00% in the treatment group, and was 70.00%in the control group, the difference being significant(P<0.01).(2) After treatment, WC and BMI were decreased in the treatment group(P<0.01 compared with those before treatment), but had no significant decrease in the control group(P>0.05). The decrease of WC and BMI of the treatment group was superior to that of the control group(P<0.05).(3) After treatment, levels of FBG, P2hBG, HbA1c, TC, TG, and FFA of both groups were significantly improved (P<0.05), and the improvement of the treatment group was superior to that of the control group(P<0.05).(4) Three patients of the treatment group suffered from slight gastric discomfort, and the discomfort was relieved without any special treatment. Other patients of the two groups had no adverse reaction. Conclusion Treatment of CFR combined with Metformin has been proved to be an effective and safe approach to decrease blood glucose and blood lipid levels, promote weight loss, and ameliorate traditional Chinese medical symptoms.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2017;21(15):2410-2417
BACKGROUND: Porosity has been proven to improve the stability of orthopedic implants, and the architecture of pores is considered as a significant factor to improve the osseointegration of implants. OBJECTIVE: To introduce the research advance in porous architecture. METHODS: WOS database was searched for the articles addressing the porous structure of the implants published from January 2000 to April 2016 using the keywords of scaffold, pore size, porosity, osteogenesis. The literatures were screened according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) The stability of traditional implants cannot meet the requirements in some specific circumstances, while the implants with porosity can improve the stability due to its osteogenesis ability. (2) Porous structure is a hotspot, and the osseointegration of porous implants in vivo is explored through series of in vitro and in vivo experiments. (3) It has been shown that higher porosity, proper pore size, microporous morphology and microstructure of the pore wall may contribute to the growth and differentiation of bone tissue under enough mechanical support. (4) However, most studies on the porous implants are still on the in vivo and animal experimental stage, and its promoting effects on the osteogenesis and bone in-growth are needed to be investigated in depth.

Journal of Interventional Radiology 2014;23(10):848-852
Objective To investigate the value of rosuvastatin in alleviating early inflammatory reaction and in preventing early recurrence of persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) after catheter ablation treatment. Methods A total of 84 patients with persistent AF who had received catheter ablation were enrolled in this study. The patients were randomly and equally divided into group A (n = 42, study group) and group B (n = 42, control group). Rosuvastatin therapy (10 mg/d, 42 patients) was employed in the patients of group A, while no medication was used in the patients of group B. One month after the ablation treatment, the serum lipid level, hs-CRP and IL-6, as well as the recurrence rate of all kinds of arrhythmia were determined. The preoperative and postoperative levels of inflammatory markers were also determined, the results were compared between the two groups, and its correlation with the early recurrence of AF was evaluated. Results One month after the ablation treatment, the levels of inflammatory markers, including hs-CRP and IL-6, in the study group were significantly lower than those in the control group, as well as lower than those determined before treatment, while in the control group the serum hs-CRP and IL-6 levels became significantly higher than the preoperative ones. Sinus rhythm was successfully maintained in 29 cases (69%) of the study group and in 25 cases (59.5%) of the control group, while the difference was not statistically significant (P = 0.362). The patients of the study group were further divided into non-recurrence sub-group (n = 29) and recurrence sub-group (n = 13). The reduction in inflammatory marker level in the non-recurrence sub-group was greater than that in the recurrence sub-group although the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion There is remarkable inflammatory reactions during the early period after catheter ablation. Rosuvastatin can effectively relieve the degree of inflammatory reaction, although it has only a slight effect in reducing the early recurrence rate after catheter ablation of AF. The greater the inflammatory markers levels are reduced, the lower the recurrence rate of AF will be, although the difference is not statistically significant.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2017;21(2):309-314
BACKGROUND:Surface modification of titanium surface to improve its biological activity is the research hotspot. Strontium-doped coating is considered to be an effective approach to promote the implant osseointegration. OBJECTIVE:To introduce the research progress of strontium-modified biomedical titanium al oys.METHODS:Articles related to the medical titanium al oys modified with strontium published from January 2000 to April 2016 were retrieved from CNKI and PubMed databases. The keywords were“titanium (Ti), strontium (Sr), bone, osteogenic”in Chinese and English, respectively. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Titanium al oys have been widely used in bone implantation because of their good biocompatibility and similar elasticity modulus with human bones. However, pure titanium al oys have poor bioactivity which leads to weak bone-implant contact. Surface modification is a good approach to enhance implant osseointegration. Sr-doped surface treatment can promote new bone formation and osseointegration. Most of the studies about Sr-doped modification are ongoing at the extracorporeal and animal experiment stage;therefore, further investigation is required to seek rapid, stable, available, safe and effective methods.

Conclusion The Tecnobody rehabilitation system provided a fairly good reliability in both relative andabsolute values in quantitative evaluation of proprioception in the feet. These data in a larger amount may be useful for setting up variables and the standard values of the local population for reference in proprioceptive rehabilitation.
