AIM and METHODS: To study the changes of serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) levels in a rat model of acute myocardial infarction (MI) and its significance. Eighty-eight male Sprague-Dawley rats were used in this study. MI was produced by left coronary arterial ligation in 80 animals, and eight rats undergoing thoracotomy but not coronary ligation served as controls (sham).Blood samples were drawn from the right atrium before (sham animals) and 1, 3, 6, 12, 24 hours and 2, 3, 5, 7, 14 days after MI( n =8,respectively). Serum VEGF concentrations were measured by a sensitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay with a rabbit polyclonal antibody specific for VEGF. RESULTS: In 8 sham animals, the concentration of serum VEGF was (66 99?17 83) pg/mL. Six hours after MI, the level of serum VEGF significantly increased to (125 68?28 07)pg/mL ( P

Objective To evaluate the relationship of gastric function of its proximal portion and electrogastrogram in healthy youths with obesity. Methods A total of 35 healthy young volunteers with normal weight participated in the study, including 16 females and 19 males. On the first day,the water load test was performed. On the second day, determination of function of proximal portion of stomach was done using electronic barostat and electrogastrogram. Results Water load test:females were found to consume significantly less water than males(P0.05)between male group and female group in the minimal distention pressure(MDP),initial intragastric pressure(IP)and the maximal tolerance pressure(MP).The initial gastric compliance(IC)in female group was less than that in male group(P0.05).The parameter of EGG:with the intragastric pressure increased,DF in Normal Range(N%)showed decreasing tendency, while bradygastria(B%),tachygastria(T%),instable coefficient of dominant frequency(DFIC)and dominant power(DP)increased. Conclusion The gastric capacity, the parameters of visceral sensitivity and IC are remarkably different between sexes. The gastric electrical activity varies in different states of proximal gastric function. The gastric contraction may be enhanced by an improvement of dominant power(DP).

Objective To investigate the factors that influence the fermentation process of compound Chinese medicine and determining the optimum fermentation with single factor experiment and response surface methodology. Methods Through controlling the factors in the fermentation process of compound Chinese medicine (such as fermentation bacteria, fermentation time, fermentation temperature, inoculum amount, etc.), with its increase rate of total peak area as evaluation indicator, the alcohol extracts before and after fermentation were monitored and comparative evaluated by HPLC, and the optimum fermentation process was determined by response surface methodology. Results The fermentation process optimized by single factor experiment and response surface methodology was as follows:SZ-2 strain served as the fermentation bacteria, temperature was 33 ℃, inoculum amount was 4%, and time was 3.5 d, the average increase rate of total peak area was 31.24%. Conclusion HPLC can be used to identify and evaluate the fermentation of compound Chinese medicine under the different factors, and to clarify the optimal fermentation process by response surface methodology, which provide reference for the development of fermentation process.

Objective To evaluate the relationship between dynamic index of proximal stomach and symptoms of functional dyspepsia (FD).Methods The dynamic indexes of proximal stomach, such as compliance, initial volume and pressure, maximal tolerable volume and pressure were measured in 22(14) functional dyspeptics and 8 healthy volunteers. Results In comparison of FD group with control group the compliance and maximal tolerance volumes were (49 9?13 8) (66 7?7 7) and (646 60?145 10) ml(768 75?47 04) ml respectively, with significant differences. Objective To investigate the prevalence rate of hyperlipidemia in the middle-aged and elderly in Guangxi Hei Yi Zhuang population. Methods A total of 657 people of Hei Yi Zhuang nationality aged 40 years and over were surveyed. Blood pressure, body height, body weight, serum lipid and apolipoprotein levels were measured, and both body surface areas and body mass index were calculated. The results were compared with those in 520 people of Han nationality who also live in that district. Results The prevalence of hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and hyperlipidemia in Hei Yi Zhuang vs. Han population were 28.9% vs. 35.8%(P0.05), and 36.2% vs. 42.3%(P0.05) respectively. Conclusions Prevalence of hyperlipidemia of Hei Yi Zhuang is lower than that of Han ethnic group, which might results from different dietary habit, life style, physical activity, and even genetic background.

Although immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs)are widely used in cancer therapy, showing great advantages and development potential,it is accompanied by a series of immune-related adverse reactions,of which myositis is a potentially fatal adverse event, which has attracted great attention.Herein,we reported a case of advanced esophageal cancer with myositis after treatment with camrelizumab, which was characterized by myasthenia gravis(MG)with myasthenic crisis, and recovered after active rescue by multidisciplinary cooperation.
