Objective To elucidate the experience and attitude of bad news delivery from nurses to advanced cancer patients, in order to offer better nursing care to the dying cancer patients as well as to provide evidence for end-of-life cancer care. Methods A phenomenological research method of qualitative study was employed in this study. Fifteen nurses caring for dying cancer patients were in-depth interviewed with semi-structured interview guide. Colaizzi analytical method was adopted to collect and analyze the data, which was then organized into themes and subthemes. Results Three themes wereconflict between will and behavior barriers of bad news delivery delivery with comprehensive assessment of dying cancer patients. Conclusions Though the oncology nurses thought the dying cancer patients should be told they were dying, few nurses did that. Communication and hope maintenance related to end-of-life cancer care training should be offered to oncology nurses, as well bad news delivery to ensure cancer patients′safety.

Objective:To develop an assessment instrument for evaluating Filial Piety Value Scale among Children Whose Parents were Advanced Cancer Patients and to test the reliability and validity of the tool.Methods:Through literature review, semi-structured interview and expert letter consultation, the first version of the Filial Piety Value Scale (FVS) was developed. A convenience sampling method was adopted to recruit 352 children of patients with advanced cancer as respondents. Item analysis, reliability and validity were adopted to evaluate the items, and finally the formal version of FVS was developed.Results:The Internal Consistency of FVS was 0.86, and the content validity index of each item was 0.93-1.00.Two factors were extracted from exploratory factor analysis, and the cumulative contribution rate of variance was 60.25%. The two factors were named as Care (10 items) and Respect (5 items).The correlation coefficient between the total score of FVS and the total score of Filial Piety Values Index (FVI) was 0.496, and the correlation coefficient between the FVS total score and FVI Care and Respect score was 0.50 and 0.46, and the results were statistically significant ( P<0.01). Conclusion:The Filial Piety Value Scale of children whose parents were advanced cancer patients has good reliability and validity, which can be used to evaluate the filial piety value of children whose parents are advanced cancer.

When cancer patients lose their independence and turn to depend on others after illness, their sense of personal value and meaning of life gradually lose, psychological pain increase, depression and anxiety occur, and their will to survive is lost because of despair and sense of burden towards other people. This paper introduces a new type of psychotherapy aiming at improving the sense of life value of cancer survivors, i.e. meaning-centered group psychotherapy. It summarizes the related concepts and theoretical sources, implementation methods and applications, and enlightenment of the application of this therapy in cancer survivors in China, with a view to providing clinical nurses with new nursing methods for cancer survivors.

Objective: To explore these adults′ perspective with filial piety and as well to elucidate adults′experience and filial caring behaviour whose parents were diagnosed as advanced cancer. Methods: This is a qualitative study. A semi-structured and individual in-depth interview guide was designed and utilised to explore perspectives of 15 adults whose parents were diagnosed as advanced cancer. Thematic analysis method was adopted to analyse the data, which were synthesised into themes and subthemes. Results: Three main themes were explicated: emotional experience, filial caring behaviours for parents and dilemmas and pressures. These adults adopted obedience, accompany, improving quality of life, completing parents’ wish to fulfil their commitment and filial piety during taking care of their cancer parents. However, they encountered ethical dilemmas regarding disclosure or non-disclosure cancer diagnosis to their parents. Conclusions Due to the profound influence of Chinese traditional culture, the adults whose parents were diagnosed as advanced cancer committed their filial caring behaviour to their parents very wholeheartedly and encountered difficulties and dilemmas. Therefore, oncology nurses are advised to share their love to cancer patients, to work with compassion and sympathy and support them by assisting with taking care of their patients, which in turn may facilitate their filial caring behaviours, decrease their pressure and negative emotions.

Objective To understand the growth experiences of senior nurses in coping with the death of patients so as to provide reference for clinical nursing management and teaching.Methods A phenomenological research method of qualitative study was employed in this study.Twenty-five senior nurses were in-depth interviewed with semi-structured interview guide.Thematic analysis method was adopted to collect and analyze the data,which were then organized into themes and subthemes.Results Three themes were "changes in growth" "ways to grow" and "unmet needs".Senior nurses could cope with patients' death well through accumulation and sharing of clinical experience,as they reorganized of death more definitely,their emotional response transferred reasonable,their coping strategy became matured,whereas the senior nurses still need help in the areas of psychological adaption,social support and professional theory education.Conclusions It is suggested that nursing managers should value the experience sharing and teaching function of senior oncology nurses,pay attention to the physical-mental health of senior nurses and provide professional psychosocial support to them.Otherwise,it is important to provide all oncology nurses with systematic knowledge training concerning hospice/death education to promote their career development ultimately.

Objective:To understand the real experience of work alienation among nurses with master′s degrees working in first-class hospitals.Methods:A descriptive qualitative research method of qualitative research was employed to conduct in-depth interviews with 15 nurses with master′s degrees from five tertiary first-class hospitals in Tianjin from January 2022 to March 2022. Nvivo 12 software was used to manage the interview data. The metic analysis method was used to refine the themes and subthemes.Results:Three themes were: work alienation performance of nurses with master′s degree (negative emotional experience, passive behavioural performance), reasons for work alienation of nurses with master′s degree (low self-worth, estranged coworker relationships and ambiguous work plan), needs of professional development coping with work alienation (needs of scientific research work, needs of scientific promotion system and salary performance, needs of organizational recognition and training and learning).Conclusions:Nurses with master′s degrees experience work alienation. Managers are advised to focus on improve these nurses′ alienation performance, explore the reasons and meet their personal needs with nursing job degrees, which then may in turn improve their sense of self-worth, and assist in developing positive attitude towards nursing work and reducing work alienation.

Objective:To test the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the Quality of Life in Adult Cancer Survivors (QLACS) in Chinese cancer Survivors.Methods:We translated the scale following the procedure of translation, integration and back translation. After modifying the scale and adapting it in Chinese culture, the reliability and validity of the QLACS scale was tested in a large sample of 222 cancer survivors.Results:The Chinese version of QLACS had 47 items with a total of twelve domains. Principal component analysis resulted in an 8-factor structure of the explaining 74.393% of the seven generic domains′ variance, and an 5-factor structure of the explaining 71.937% of the five cancer-specific domains′ variance. The item level content validity index (I-CVI) was 0.89-1.00, and the total content average content validity index (S-CVI/) was 0.93. The Cronbach′s α coefficient for the total QLACS score was 0.935, and 0.933 for generic domains, and 0.865 for cancer-specific domains.Conclusions:The Chinese version of QLACS appears to possess adequate validity, reliability and internal consistency. The newly translated Chinese version of QLACS may be used to assess the quality of cancer survivors in China.

ObjectiveTo explore oncology nurses' perspectives towards patient bullying, and to investigate its impact on job satisfaction and compassion fatigue. Methods? A total of 450 nurses from the oncology department of four ClassⅢ Grade A hospitals in Tianjin in March 2018 by convenience sampling method. The investigation was carried out by the general information questionnaire, Patients Bullying Behaviors Questionnaire, Job Satisfaction Scale and Professional Quality of Life Scale (Pro-QOL). Hierarchical regression analysis was applied for influencing factors. Results? A total of 450 questionnaires were distributed and 400 valid questionnaires were collected. The total scores of Patients Bullying Behaviors Questionnaire, Job Satisfaction Scale and Pro-QOL were (43.72±15.14), (3.41±0.99) and (90.84±12.13) respectively. Hierarchical regression analysis showed that the bullying behavior of nurses affected job satisfaction, sympathy satisfaction, job burnout and secondary traumatic stress (P＜ 0.05). Conclusions? Nurses in oncology department experienced a slightly higher level of bullying than other occupations. The more frequently oncology nurses experience bullying, the more obvious their compassion fatigue is, and the lower their job satisfaction is.
