Objective To investigate the effect of humanoid robot on social skills, concentration and mobility in children with autism. Methods 10 autistic children were asked to interact with humanoid robot NAO in a teaching environment that involves active participation of the robot. The eye-contact and social interaction, as well as performances in accomplishing learning objectives were observed. Results The 10 children exhibited more concentrated gazing and significantly longer periods of silence. The actual number of interaction of the be-havior Gazing of 9 children exceeded 50%of the theoretical one, the success rate of which reaching 50%. For the behavior Waving, 5 chil-dren were able to interact for more than 50%of the theoretical times, with an accuracy of performance of 50%in 7 children. For Say Hello, 7 children were able to interact for more than 50%of the theoretical times, with an accuracy of performance of 50%in 4 children. Conclu-sion Application of humanoid robots NAO may improve the social skills, concentration and mobility in autistic children.

Objective To evaluate left atrial systolic function and synchronization by two dimensional speckle tracking imaging(2D-STI) measuring the strain in healthy subjects. Methods Thirty-two healthy subjects were studied. The peak velocity(Vmax),the peak amplitude of longitudinal and radial strain (Am-LS and Am-RS),the peak time of both longitudinal and radial strain(T-LS and T-RS) were acquired in each left atrial wall(anterior, inferior, posterior, lateral and septal) at three levels (basal, middle and apical)during left atrial active contraction by 2D-STI.Results ① No significant differences were found at theVmax,Am-LS,Am-RS,T-LS and T-RS among all left atrial walls in the same level ( P > 0.05).②The Vmax,Am-LS and Am-RS were decreased progressively from basal to apical, and there were significant differences( P <0.05) except the Am-RS at anterior, posterior and septal( P =0.218,0.258 and 0.238,separately).③Compared all levels in each left atrial wall, the T-LS and T-RS showed no significant differences( P >0.05),except the T-LS at posterior( P =0.002) and the T-RS at lateral( P =0.026).④The standard deviation of the T-LS,T-RS and T-globe were 37.38 ms,48.25 ms and 43.85 ms,respectively. There were no significant correlation between T-LS and T-RS in the same segment with r =0.014 and P =0.885.Conclusions There were some regularity during left atrial active contraction. On the whole, the peak velocity and the peak amplitude were decreased progressively from basal to apical in each atrial wall, and the peak time of strain showed no significant difference in the same level of each left atrial wall. The 2D-STI may paly important roles in the evaluation of left atrial systolic function and synchronization.

Objective To evaluate subclinical Cushing syndrome cases and to improve the diagnosis. Methods A retrospective analysis was done on the data of 24 subclinical Cushing syndrome cases.Clinical data included clinical manifestations, endocrinal tests, imaging, treatments, light microscopic and electron microscopic results. Results No typical sign of Cushing syndrome was found in these 24 cases.Endocrine tests showed that 24-hour urine free cortisol increased in 18 cases (75%),cortisol rhythm disappeared in 12 cases(50%),high-dose dexamethasone suppression test was not inhibited in 11 cases (46%),and low-dose dexamethasone suppression test (LDDST) was not suppressed in all 24 cases (100%).CT scan showed the average tumor diameter was 3.1(1.8-4.5)cm.Laparoscopic resections of adrenal tumors were performed for all 24 patients. The light microscopic examination of the tumor specimens showed adrenocortical adenoma, and the electron microscopic examination found a greater number of cytoplasmic secretory granules. After 3 months' followup, patient's blood pressure was normal and the normal cortisol rhythm was detected. Conclusions Endocrine tests, especially LDDST,are important for the diagnosis of subclinical Cushing syndrome.Once a clear diagnosis of subclinical Cushing syndrome is established, the patient should be treated with surgery and will have a satisfactory result in both blood pressure control and endocrinal rhythm.

Objective To study the mechanism of Chinese herbal capsule in the treatment of genital herpes. Methods Guinea pig model for genital herpes infection was established.HSV DNA from the cerebrum, spinal cord, cervical canal and vagina of guinea pigs was detected by fluorescent-quantitative PCR.Results The HSV DNA could be detected from all four kinds of tissues, with different copies of the virus in the different tissues, the highest in spinal cord, then in vagina, the least in cerebrum and cervical canal. There was statistical difference of HSV-DNA copies between herbal capsule group and control group(normal saline),whereas no statistical difference between herbal capsule group and aciclovir group. Conclusion The mechanism of the anti-virus herbal capsule in the treatment of experimental genital herpes might be related to blocking the latent infection and suppressing the replication of HSV.

Objective To evaluate left ventricular diastolic function in patients with uremia by pulsed wave Doppler tissue imaging (PW DTI).Methods Conventional echocardiography and PW DTI were performed in 35 patients with uremia and 20 controls.Average DTI indices of foursites in mitral valve annulus were analyzed by PW DTI,including early diastolic peak velocity(V E),late diastolic peak velocity(V A),V E/V A ratio. Results According to ejection fraction (EF) by conventional echocardiography, the patients with uremia were divided into normal EF group and EF decreased group.Compared with controls, both normal EF and EF decreased groups significantly showed decreased V E and V E/V A (P

Objective To investigate the effect of different pore sized hydroxyapatite for promoting bone vascularization in tissue engineering. Methods Male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups, named group A,B and C,which were im-planted hydroxyapatite bioceramics compositing 4 μg bone morphogenetic protein with different aperture of 200 -300,350 -450, 500-600 μm in the back subcutaneously. The size of each block was 5 mm×5 mm×1 mm in a weight about of 40.0 mg.After im-plantation,the animals were killed and the implants and the surrounding tissue were taken out at the first, second, third and forth week respectively.HE staining of histological analysis was used to detect the situation of local neovascularization. Results There was significant difference between second and third week in group A.Comparing the area of vascularization at different time points in group B and group C,there were significant difference in the comparison of intragroup (P <0.05 ).During the first week after surgery, there was only group C that had the area of vascularization.During the second and forth week after operation, the area of vascularization in group B and group C were significant higher than group A (P <0.05).The C group showed a great deal of new-born blood vessels and clear formation of bone trabeculae. Conclusion The hydroxyapatite bioceramics of 500-600 μm could better promote vascalarization of tissue engineering in bone.

The aim of the study is to establish a new method of quality evaluation and validate its feasibilities by the simultaneous quantitative assay of four lignanoids in Schisandra chinensis. A new quality evaluation method, quantitative analysis of multi-components by single marker (QAMS), was established and validated with Schisandra chinensis. Four main lignanoids, schisandrin, schisantherin A, deoxyschizandrin and gamma-schizandrin, were selected as analytes and schisandrin as internal reference substance to evaluate the quality. Their contents in 13 different batches of samples, collected from different bathes, were determined by both external standard method and QAMS. The method was evaluated by comparison of the quantitative results between external standard method and QAMS. No significant differences were found in the quantitative results of four lignanoids in 13 batches of S. chinensis determined by external standard method and QAMS. QAMS is feasible for determination of four lignanoids simultaneously when some authentic standard substances were unavailable, and the developed method can be used for quality control of S. chinensis.
