The effect of phenol concentration on the structure and function of microbial communities, which were cultured in different conditions using coking wastewater biofilm as seeding, was investigated by Biolog and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis(DGGE)methods. The less number of bands of cultivated sam-ples on the denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis fingerprint of 16S rRNA gene indicated reduction of di-versity after enrichment and cultivation. Some bands on the DGGE gel were significantly influenced by the phenol concentration in medium. The results of Biolog showed that the original biofilm sample had the highest substrate utility capacity as measured by average well color development(AWCD).But low concen-tration of phenol enriched sample S7 showed more diverse activity on the utility of Carboxylic acids. The principal component analysis(PCA)of Biolog data revealed that the metabolic patterns were similar when using the same phenol concentration, although the sample S7 much less similar to other cultivated samples. These results suggested that the enrichment and cultivation with phenol supplemented decreased the diver-sity and also changed the metabolic function of the microbial community.Lower phenol concentration in-creased the microbial community metabolic activity. The phenol degrading capacity of isolates from each samples indicated that the enrichment and cultivation condition had changed the type and property of cul-truable bacteria.Based on these results,we concluded that the different microorganisms will be isolated un-der different cultivation condition.

In this study, we use pot experiment to evaluate the effect of plant growth regulator on plant morphology and biomass allocation of Salvia miltiorrhiza. Different concentrations of uniconazole were supplied to S. miltioohiza by means of foliar spray. Height, breadth and stem diameter were measured dynamically, the biomass of leaf, stem, flower and fruit, root biomass and biomass ratio were also examined at the harvest time. Owing to the treatment, plant morphology showed significant changes, the height had been greatly reduced and the breadth decreased largely. Meanwhile, the biomass allocation changed too. The biomass ratio of leaf and stem had been notably reduced while the biomass ratio of root had been increased remarkably. It appears that foliar application of uniconazole during vigorous growth period in S. miltioohiza has dramatic effect on dwarfing plant and improving resistant to lodging. This measure could also be applied to condensed cultivation of S. miltioohiza to increase production.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the method for collecting NO2 in workplace air using a solid adsorbent and determining the concentration of NO2 by ion-exchange chromatography.
METHODSNO2 in workplace air was collected using sampling tubes filled with 13X molecular sieve soaked with triethanolamine, and the samples were desorbed with a certain concentration of triethanolamine solution to obtain NO2(-). NO2(-) was separated with an anion exchange chromatography column and quantified by a conductivity detector. The concentration of NO2 was determined based on the conversion coefficient of NO2 and NO2(-).
RESULTSDifferent concentrations of NO2 (standard gas) was collected using the sampling tubes at different time points, and the sampling efficiency and desorption efficiency could reach more than 90%. The penetrating capacity of sampling tubes was more than 1.1 mg. The comparative test shows that there was no significant difference between the new method and national standard method (solution absorption) (P > 0.05). The samples could be stored at room temperature for more than 16 days. The calibration curve plotted in the new method was linear in the range of 0.1∼20.0 µg/ml, with a correlation coefficient of 0.9998; the detection limit was 0.01 µg/ml; the minimum detectable concentration was 0.05 mg/m(3) (V0 = 3.0 L).
CONCLUSIONThis determination method meets the requirements of Guide for establishing occupational heath standards-Part 4 Determination methods of air chemicals in workplace (GBZ/T 210.4-2008) and shows obvious advantages for determination of NO2 in workplace air.

Background and Objective: Mutations in DNA repair system are related to carcinogenesis. This study was to evaluate the correlations of polymorphisms and haplotypes of XPD gene with individual susceptibility to gastric cancer. Methods: Genomic DNA were extracted from peripheral blood leukocytes of 207 gastric cancer patients and 212 healthy controls. Genotypes at codon 312 and codon 751 polymorphic sites were identified by amplification refractory mutation system-polymerase chain reaction(ARMS-PCR) or polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCRPFLP), respectively. Results: At codon 312, the frequency of GA or AA genotype was higher in the gastric cancer patients than in the healthy controls (P<0.01,OR=3.41, 95% CI: 2.06-4.79; P<0.01, OR=3.47,95% CI:1.39-8.68). No significant difference was found in the distribution of the polymorphism at codon 751 between the two groups(P>0.05). By the haplotype AA (codon 312A-codon 751A) analysis, the frequency of heterozygote(-/AA) or homozygote (AA/AA) was higher in the patients than in the controls (P<0.01 ,OR=2.81, 95% CI:1.82-4.34;P=0.02,OR=3.92, 95%CI:1.31-11.70,respectively). Whereas there were no significant differences of the other three haplotypes between the patients and the controls (P>0.05).Conclusions: The polymorphism of XPD at codon 312 might contribute to the etiology of gastric cancer. The haplotype AA (codon 312A-codon 751A) would be a critical risk factor of the susceptibility to gastric cancer.

OBJECTIVETo explore the morbidity, clinical characteristics, diagnosis, metastasis, treatment and prognosis of primary breast lymphoma (PBL).
METHODSFrom January 1960 to August 2007, 49 cases with PBL were treated among 22811 cases of breast malignancy and 7337 cases of malignant lymphoma. The clinical data of these 49 patients, included gender, age, pathologic type, breast X ray and B ultrasound examination results, involved lymph nodes and organs, treatment, survival time, were retrospectively analyzed.
RESULTSFrom 1960 to 2007, the incidence rate of PBL in Tianjin Municipality was 59/10 millions; in details, the incidence rate of PBL for every 10 years was 2/10 millions, 3/10 millions, 0, 13/10 millions and 32/10 millions, respectively. According to circle graph of age, PBL occurred frequently in female aged 30 to 59 years. Most of this group of PBL was non-Hodgkin lymphoma (48 cases). No typical characteristics was found with the examination of breast X ray, B ultrasound and frozen section pathology. Bone marrow (9 cases), lung (7 cases), meninges (4 cases) and ovary (4 cases) were frequently involved organs. The overall 5-year survival rate was 6.1% for the group. The prognosis in patients with radical mastectomy combined chemotherapy was much better than that in patient received super to local mastectomy plus chemotherapy or simple tumor resection plus chemotherapy (5-year survival rates were 21.4%, 0, 0, respectively).
CONCLUSIONSPBL is a kind of rare lymphoma with incidence increasing sharply in the past few decades. The clinical manifestation is atypical. Diagnosis of PBL should adopt histological examination. Radical mastectomy combined chemotherapy could bring better prognosis, but the prognosis is still poor.
