Objective To summarize the outcome of volar approach for unstable distal radius fractures, as well as to explore and discuss the more prompt and efficient way with less complications. Methods Volar approach was used for unstable distal radius fractures in 129 cases (140 sides). This study involved 77 males and 52 females with an average age of 43.7 years (range, 15-76 years). According to the Coony universal classification, 36 sides were of type Ⅱ, 7 of type Ⅲ and 97 of type Ⅳ, which included 105 sides of fresh fracture and 35 old ones. Extra-articular reduction was performed under C-arm to restore the palm tilted angle and ulna deviated angle. For those with severe bone defect, artificial bone graft or auto-graft was applied. T-plates were fixed in 32 sides, T-plates with K-wires in 57, external fixators in 13, external fixators with K-wires in 38 respectively. Results The functional recovery was achieved at 3.8 months averagely after operation with a range of 2 to 6 months. The mean follow-up period was 23.6 months ( range, 12-40 months). 91 sides were rated as excellent, 38 as good, 10 fair and 1 poor. The long-term excellent-good rate was 92.1%. Conclusion The volar approach for unstable distal radius fractures has the following advantages: 1)less invasive without compromise to the bone and tendon sheath of distal radius; 2)The volar surface of radius is smooth , easier for plating; 3)no injury to the palmer ligaments and better for recovery; 4)better reduction; 5)avoidance of bone graft displacement; 6) shorten the operation time, less post-operative complication, earlier rehabilitation and faster functional recovery. The volar approach for unstable distal radius fractures is suitable either for internal or external fixation.

Objective To evaluate the treatment of unstable fractures of the distal end of the radius with external fixator. Methods 28 patients with unstable fractures of the distal end of the radius were treated with external fixators. 19 cases of them were fixed with K wires and bone graft was used in 4 patients with severe bone defect. Results The patients were followed up for an average period of 10.11 months. According to modified Mcbride grading, 25 patients showed excellent or good results with the excellent and good rate being 89.28% . Conclusion It is difficult to reduce unstable fracture of the distal end of the radius with close reduction. Redisplacement is frequent for plaster cast and is not reliable in maintaining reduction. These fractures should be treated with early open reduction. External fixation plus reasonable exercises taken after the operation is one of the good treatments and good results can be predicted. The most important factors affecting final outcome include radial shortening and reduction of articular surface.

Traction during reduction is essent ial for internal or external fixatio n of unstable distal radial fractures.Adequate and effective t raction is the key to the restoration of articular congruence, normal joint relation and the length of distal radius. The f orearm traction instrument develop ed by the authors is a simple, versatile and reliable device, from which stable, continuous and effective traction c an be expected during the surgery. The traction instrument is connected wi th the surgery-table before the operation.According to the needs of diff erent operations, many kinds of traction could be perfo rmed to support the operation. With t he help of the device,frac-ture reduction and fixation is signi ficantly improved during the surgery without excessively violent traction. The X-ray exposure and the operation hou rs can also be decreased as well.Over-traction or long-time violent traction could be avoided during the surgery.According to the author' s experience, the forearm traction i nstrument is an effective implemental device in the treatment of the unstable fractures of distal radius.[

Detection of lipids ,lipoprotein and lipid metabolism related indicators is important in the risk assessment and prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease ( ASCVD ) .Along with the research progress, there are still defects within the established lipid biomarkers and methods ,which need continuous optimization. The ASCVD risk assessment is expected to be further improved as the new biomarkers are coming up.

Objective · To detect gingival thickness of the anterior teeth region of Han nationality youths in Shanghai by cone-beam computerized tomography (CBCT), and evaluate its clinical application feasibility and the gingival biotype. Methods · Firstly, gingival thickness in the same site (5 participators, 30 sites) was detected by bone sounding and CBCT respectively, and the data were compared. A total of 30 participators with healthy gingival were recruited to the study and examined by the CBCT, the gingival thickness of selected sites (330 sites) was assessed and compared. All the subjects were examined by the experienced doctors and classified into three groups, thick-type middle-type and thin-type. Gingival thickness range and the proportion of every type were obtained. All data analyses were performed using SPSS 13.0. Results · There was no statistical difference in the thickness of gingival measured by bone sounding and CBCT (P>0.05). The main gingival biotypes of Han nationality youths in Shanghai were thin-type and middle-type. The average gingival thickness of upper central incisors [(1.32±0.15) mm] was larger than those of upper lateral incisors [(1.07±0.16) mm,P=0.000] and upper canines [(1.08±0.18) mm, P=0.000]. Conclusion · CBCT is feasible for detecting gingival thickness. Gingival thickness of the upper central incisors is significantly larger than those of upper lateral incisors and upper canines. The main gingival biotype of Han nationality youths in Shanghai is middle-type, the proportion of thick-type is least.

Objective To understand the sanitary quality of cosmetics in Wuhan. Methods The sanitary quality of cosmetics including hair care cosmetics, skin care cosmetics, beauty cosmetics, perfumes and cosmetics for special use sampled from 23 cosmetics manufactures and 15 large-scale whole-salers and retail traders in Wuhan were examined during 1996~2001. Results The annual qualified rates of cosmetics were 93.49%~98.69% in 1996~2000. It was 95.65% for hair care cosmetics, 92.41% for skin care cosmetics, 98.13% for beauty cosmetics, 100% for purfumes and 95.56% for special use cosmetics respectively. They also were 93.62%~98.69% for microbiological indexes and 99.17%~100% for chemical indexes respectively. The total count of bacteria of skin care cosmetics seriously exceeded the related sanitary standard. Conclusion The main problem of the sanitary quality of cosmetics was the microbiological pollution.

The present study shows that mushroom juice exhibits a significanteffect on growth of L. acidophilus in reconstituted skim milk. When 5% - 10% mushroom juice was added in skim milk, they shorten generation time and the rate of lactic acid production was accelerated. After 10h incubation at 37℃ cell counts of L. acidophilus in test groups were much more than in control group, were up to 108/mL.

AIM: To study the effect of genistein on c-myc mRNA expression induced by oxidized low density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) in human vascular endothelial cells (ECV304). METHODS: LDL were isolated from healthy human plasma by gradient ultracentrifugation and oxidized by CuSO4. ECV304 cells were exposed to ox-LDL 200 mg*L-1 in the presence or absence of genistein 100 μmol*L-1 for 1, 2, and 4 h in vitro. Northern blot was employed to measure c-myc mRNA levels of ECV304. RESULTS: In response to ox-LDL 200 mg*L-1, c-myc mRNA expression in ECV304 increased by 3 fold for 1h and 3.3 fold for 2 h and decreased below the control level at 4 h. Expressions of c-myc stimulated by ox-LDL in the presence of genistein 100 μmol*L-1 for 1 h and 2 h were separately 80 percent and 60 percent of that in the absence of genistein 100 μmol*L-1. CONCLUSION: Genistein can effectively inhibit c-myc mRNA expression in ECV304 induced by ox-LDL.
