1.Midnight-noon ebb-flow acupuncture at stomach meridian of foot-yangming: a fMRI study.
Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2015;35(12):1258-1262
The status change of brain functional region of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) of midnight-noon ebb-flow acupuncture method at stomach meridian was explored. Ten healthy volunteers were recruited. With identical sequence of magnetic resonance scans, fMRI data was collected respectively in the timely acupoint group, untimely acupoint group and timely non-acupoint group. Volunteers in the timely acupoint group were treated at Zusanli (ST 36) and Chongyang (ST 42) between 7:02:53 A.M. to 9:02:52 A.M.; volunteers in the untimely acupoint group were treated with Zusanli (ST 36) and Chongyang (ST 42) between 3:02 P.M. to 5:02 P.M.; volunteers in the timely non-acupoint group were treated at non-acupoints 1 to 2 cm outside Zusanli (ST 36) and Chongyang (ST 42) between 7:02:53 A. M. to 9:02:52 A.M.. All fMRI data was analyzed with SPM5 software, and intra-group comparison and among-group comparison of timely acupoint group, untimely acupoint group and timely non-acupoint group were performed. The tonsil of cerebellum, the right-side insular cortex showed strengthened function in the timely acupoint group; the right-side medial frontal gyrus showed weakened function in the untimely acupoint group; the right-sided insular cortex showed strengthened function in the timely non-acupoint group. The comparison among groups indicated that there was different brain change in three groups. The midnight-noon ebb-flow acupuncture method at stomach meridian is likely to activate the function of cerebellum and insular lobe, which can have a positive effect on patients with flaccidity syndrome and stomach diseases.

3.The two-step location method of acupoint in Internal Canon of Medicine and its clinical application.
Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2014;34(10):979-982
An accurate location of acupoint is one of the key factors for improving clinical therapeutic effect of acupuncture and moxibustion. From the theoretical basis, operation method, principle discussion and clinical application, the clinical practicability of the two-step location method of acupoint in Internal Canon of Medicine is discussed. This two-step location method is in accord with the original connotation of acupoint, and focuses on the function state of acupoint. As is suggested in clinical researches, the acupoint location that is acquired by using the two-step location method, as a treated area, could obviously improve the therapeutic effect of acupuncture and moxibustion. Therefore, the two-step location method of acupoint in Internal Canon of Medicine should be considered as guideline of clinical acupoint location.

Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2013;33(3):219-222
OBJECTIVETo explore the better therapy for chronic tension-type headache (CTTH).
METHODSTwo hundred and eighty-eight cases were randomized into a sticking needling group (150 cases) and an acupuncture group (138 cases). In the sticking needling group, the manual sticking needling technique was adopted to stimulate the galea tendon-muscle node. In the acupuncture group, the conventional acupuncture therapy was applied to Baihui (GV 20), Sishencong (EX-HN 1), Fengchi (GB 20), Taiyang (EX-HN 5), Touwei (ST 18), Hegu (LI 4), etc. The treatment was given once a day, and 30 days made one session. After two sessions of treatment and after three months follow-up, CTTH score (including the score of headache attack frequency and the score of headache severity) was observed and compared before and after treatment separately. The efficacy was evaluated in two groups.
RESULTSCTTH score was all reduced after treatment in the two groups (both P<0.01), the score in the sticking needling group was lower than that in the acupuncture group (2.38 +/- 1.22 vs 4.16 +/- 2.54, P < 0.01). The effective rate was 97.3% (146/150) in the sticking needling group, which was better than 88.4% (122/138) in the acupuncture group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe manual sticking needling technique at galea tendon-muscle node achieves the superior results of reducing the pain attack frequency and severity of CTTH as compared with the acupuncture therapy of the routine acupoint selection.

6. Effect of electro-acupuncture on pain relief and joint function in patients with knee osteoarthritis: A meta-analysis
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2020;24(21):3438-3444
BACKGROUND: Numerous clinical data have shown that electro-acupuncture in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis has the advantages of fast onset, good therapeutic effect and less side effects, but there is a lack of multicenter large-sample clinical research regarding the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. OBJECTIVE: To systematically evaluate the effect of electro-acupuncture on pain relief and joint function in patients with knee osteoarthritis by meta-analysis. METHODS: The literatures related to clinical randomized controlled trials of electro-acupuncture treatment of knee osteoarthritis were retrieved in CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, PubMed, Embase and Cochrance Library database from the inception to June 2019. After literature screening, a meta-analysis of included studies was carried out using Review Manager 5.3. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Finally, 11 articles were included in the study, with 721 cases of knee osteoarthritis. There were 366 cases in the electro-acupuncture group and 361 in the control group with routine acupuncture or drug treatment. Compared with the control group, the total effective rate, cure rate, visual analogue scale score, WOMAC score and ISOA score in the electro-acupuncture group were significantly higher than those in the control group [odds ratio (OR)=3.22, 95% confidence interval (CI)(2.13, 4.87), Z=5.53, P < 0.000 01; OR=2.73, 95%CI(1.80, 4.15), Z=4.72, P < 0.000 01; mean difference (MD)=-1.00, 95%CI(-1.71, -0.30), Z=2.80, P=0.005; MD=-7.69, 95%CI(-10.31, -5.07), Z=5.75, P < 0.000 01; MD=-2.22, 95%CI(-3.74, -0.70), Z=2.86, P=0.004]. Based on the evidence of meta-analysis, the short-term effect of electro-acupuncture on knee osteoarthritis is definite, and electro-acupuncture can play a positive effect on pain symptoms and joint function of knee osteoarthritis patients with few adverse reactions. Considering small sample size, low-quality literatures and possible presence of bias factors, further investigations on more high-quality randomized controlled trials are warranted.
