China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2014;39(16):3172-3175
This paper collected the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescriptions of osteoporosis and osteoarthritis from CNKI to set up database and used TCM inheritance system to analyze the composing principles in prescriptions. We collected 103 and 106 prescriptions for osteoporosis and osteoarthritis respectively, then analyzed inherent principles between herbs in prescriptions by using the TCM inheritance system, and obtained the frequency of each herb, and drug combinations of two diseases' prescriptions. The result showed that the principles in TCM prescriptions of osteoporosis and osteoarthritis are similarities, buch as tonifying kidney and invigorating the circulation of blood, but differences of the specific drugs. That is to say, tonifying kidney is the main method of osteoporosis treatment, however, invigorating the circulation of blood is the main method of osteoarthritis treatment.

BACKGROUND: The traditional ankle-foot orthosis focuses on the protection, correction, stability, and compensation;therefore, it is important to explore a new rehabilitation method for ankle joint dysfunction.OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of computer-aided movable and measurable ankle-foot orthosis that designed by the Department of Rehabilitation in Longgang Central Hospital of Shenzhen on postoperative dysfunction after ankle fracture.METHODS: Fifty-two patients with ankle fractures at 3 weeks after internal fixation were selected and equivalently randomized into two groups. Both groups received conventional oral medication and rehabilitation therapy. In addition, the patients in control group were given joint mobilization treatment, while those in experimental group were given computer-aided movable and measurable of ankle-foot orthosis, 20 minutes daily, 6 days weekly for consecutive 4 weeks. The efficacy was evaluated by muscle strength, active range of motion, Kofoed ankle score and visual analogue scale on computer at baseline, 7, 14, and 28 days after training.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) There were no significant differences in baseline data and ankle function scores between two groups before training (P > 0.05), and all above indicators were significantly improved in both two groups at 4 weeks after training (P < 0.05). (2) Compared with the control group, the muscle strength, Kofoed ankle score and visual analogue scale scores on computer in the experimental group were significantly improved at 7, 14 and 28 days after training (P < 0.05). (3) The active plantar flexion angle in the experimental group was significantly larger than that in the control group at 28 days after training (P < 0.05).The active plantar flexion and dorsiflexion angles at 7 and 14 days after training, and active dorsiflexion angle at 28 days after training did not differ significantly between two groups (P >0.05). To conclude, the unique ankle-foot orthosis can reduce postoperative pain, enhance muscle strength and improve ankle mobility after ankle fracture.

Objective To investigate how many probably benign lesions on ultrasound(US) fulfilled the published criteria and to evaluate how clinical and personal factors influenced the categorization of breast lesions. Methods A total of 487 lesions in 487 women with more than 12 months follow-up after the initial category 3 assessment on US were included. The initial US images were retrospectively reviewed according to previously published criteria, and evaluated several factors that could influence the characterization of breast lesions in clinical practice such as age, multiplicity, palpability, radiologist 's experience, and lesion size. Results Of 487 lesions,479 (98.36%) were benign and 8 (1.64%) were malignant.Of 487 lesions,203(41.68%) including 8 malignancies were reassessed as category 4.If strict criteria had been applied at initial US examination, the positive biopsy rate would have been only 3.94% (8/203) and 96.06% (195 of 203) biopsies would have been unnecessary.Lesions in women 40 years or older and multiple lesions were more frequently reassessed as category 4 (P = 0.008 and P = 0.006,respectively).The presence of palpability, lesion size, and the radiologist 's experience did not significantly influence the categorization of breast lesions on US.Of 487 probably benign lesions,41.68 % could be classified as category 4 lesions when strict criteria were applied in initial practice. Conclusions The multiplicity of the lesion and the patient 's age were found to have a significant influence on the classifcation of probably benign solid masses.
