Objective To increase stone-breaking efficiency by improving waterway system of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy. Methods A water-storing bag, which possessed warm-up function and was filled with anticorrosive and antirust no-air water, and a sealed water tank were added to water-entering pipeline of shock wave generator. Water pressure pressing water-storing bag was utilized to control no-air water to be filled into shock wave generator to minimize bubble forming in shock wave outer conduct passway. Meanwhile, a temporary water-storing tank and a single-directed valve were added between pipelines and water-storing bag. Results After improving, lithotripsy could recycle no-air water to be filled into shock wave generator. It not only increased shock wave conducting and stone breaking efficiency, but also decreasee air content in shock wave generator and outer conduct passway, and decreased bubble forming, thus reducing complication in more rational procedures. Conclusion The method of improving waterway system of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy is simple, cheap, effective and worth popularizing.

Objective To explore the feasibility and superiority of the simplified partial pressurized tourniquet used in bleeding or injured limbs in battlefield. Methods The tourniquet was composed of the disposable infusion bag, bulb for blood pressure apparatus, pressure gauge and heparin cap.The disposable infusion bag wrapped around the bottom of the cravat took the places of the balloon and the harness. The pressure on the upper and lower limbs were 180mmHg and 200mmHg respectively. Results The low-cost tourniquet, with easily adjustable pressure, was easy to operate and carry. It was efficient in hemostasis and had a low rate for complications. Conclusion The tourniquet can be applied to self and buddy aid,and thus the incidence of shock can be decreased.

Successful assessing intestinal lumen content with ultrasound signals might lay a strong basis for the development of the artificial anal sphincter. In the present study, we utilized a modified MLU02-212 ultrasonic gas bubble detector to test the distal part of proximal colon in each rabbit, for the group of twenty healthy New Zealand rabbits. Voltage signals of solid, liquid, gas and empty content of the lumen were collected and compared. The results indicated that there were significant differences among the voltage signals in the 4 conditions (P = 0.000), respectively. Multiple comparison showed significant differences existed in any pair of the four conditions (P = 0.000). Three signal non-overlapping regions existed in these 4 conditions. Thus it seemed that ultrasound could be utilized to distinguish various contents inside the intestinal lumen and could act as "artificial sensory nerve".
