Contents of magnolol and honokiol in Magnolia officinalis Rehd. et Wils. and its processed products,yellow-fried, burn -fried and ginger-fried M. officinalis Rehd. et Wils. as well as commercially available M.officinalis Rehd. et Wils. and its processed products were assayed by TLC Scanning. Results showed that contents of the two constituents decreased after M. officinalis Rehd. et Wils. was processed. Among them the burn-fried product showed a most pronounce decrease of 30%, while both yellow-fried and ginger-fried products decreased about 20%. The contents of magnolol and honokiol in commercial M. officinalis Rehd. et Wils. and its ginger-fried product available in other provinces and cities differed greatly with some almost contain no magnolol and honokiol.

Objective To retrospectively evaluate effects of early dynamization of interlocking intramedullary nail on union of tibial shaft fractures.Methods From January 2002 to Septemher 2004,75 patients with tibial shaft fractures were treated in our department with internal fixation using static interlocking iutramedullary nails.Early dy- namization(6 to 10 weeks postoperative)was adopted in 32 patients (the dynamic group) according to the fracture con- ditions,while the other 43 patients were treated without early dynamization (the non-dynamic group).The healing time of fractures and the rate of delayed union in both groups were documented.Results All the cases were followed up for a mean duration of 6.5 months (range,4 to 13 months).The mean healing time was 115.6 days (range,105 to 126 days) in the dynamic group and 124.5 days (range,119 to 133 days) in the non-dynamic group.The difference was statistically significant between the two groups (P＜0.05).There were two cases (6.2%) of delayed union in the dynamic group and four (9.4%) in the non-dynamic group.The difference was not significant (P＞0.05). Conclusion Early dynamization of interlocking intramedullary nail can promote union of tibial shaft fractures.

Objective To investigate the application of a new type internal anastomotic appliance of pouch pliers in the retention of anus operation of mesal,low rectal carcinoma.Methods The data of 65 patients with mesal,low rectal carcinoma with the technique of the anal retention using KYGW type anastomotic appliance of pouch pliers were reviewed and analyzed retrospectively.Results 65 patients were coincided success only one time. Anastomotic fistula occurred after operation in 1 case,being cured and discharged at last,no anastomotic stricture. Conclusion The internal anastomotic appliance of pouch pliers in the anal retention of mesal-low rectal carcinoma is an efficient method with better cost-effectiveness and fewer complications,which is easy to manipulate and popular- ize.

Objective To explore the long-term efficacy of botulinum toxin type A injections on facial beauty and its long-term safety.Methods A total of 33 beauty-seekers with botulinum toxin type A treatment for more than five years were reviewed as observation group,using digital muscle palpation meter (Myoton PRO) for the determination of the orbicularis oculi muscle and masseter muscle tension (F),the muscle characteristic parameters,such as muscle hardness (S) using a homemade facial questionnaire test for satisfactory rate of beauty from both beauty-seekers and physicians.At sametime,33 normal adults that never accepted botulinum toxin injection with matched age and gender were collected as control group.The same-sex indicators were dtermined and compared with using statistic analysis t test.Results The pairwised parameters of the same sex and site were comparied between the two groups;average F and S values in the observation group were lower than those of the control group,but no statistically significant difference were observed between the two groups (P＞0.05);in the observation group,average appearance age was 7.3 years younger than the control group,and the facial shape improved significantly.Conclusions Long-term and repeated application of botulinum toxin A is able to remove crow's feet and decrease the masseter and so the injection is safe with high satisfaction to beauty-seekers.

Retinoblastoma(RB)is the most common intraocular malignancy of children with extremely poor prognosis. MicroRNAs are small non-coding single-stranded RNAs in eukaryotic cells, which regulate the expression of gene by mRNA degradation or translation inhibition. MicroRNAs, acting as oncogenes or tumor suppressor genes, are associated with the occurrence and development of RB directly, which is vital for the early diagnosis and clinical targeted therapy of RB. This review summarized the expression of microRNAs in RB and the related mechanism.

There are still many problems at liquid state culture especially large-scale culture for Helicobacter pylori at present. Using analytical technique of single factor test statistics, a suitable medium and shaking culture conditions for Helicobacter pylori have been selected. The experimental results showed: under the optimal shaking culture conditions Hp could be growed well enough in Brucella broth with ?-CD. The thalli weight reached 0.6g/100mL.

Objective To compare proximal femoral nail(PFN)introduction by percutaneous K-wire through a small incision with conventional PFN introduction protocol in the treatment of intertrochanteric fractures. Methods From January 2004 to March 2005,51 patients with intertrochanteric fractures were randomly dis- tributed into a minimally invasive treatment group(group MI)and a conventional treatment group(group C).All the fractures were closely reduced.In group MI a K-wire was percutaneously inserted through the tip of the greater troehanter into the center of medullary canal of the pruximal femur before the PFN was inserted under the guidance of K-wire through a small incision made along the K-wire while in group C the PFN was introduced according to the conventional procedure.The operation time,intra-operative blood loss,length of incision,X-ray exposure,duration of in-patient stay and time of bone union in both groups were recorded and compared.Results The mean oper- ation time,mean intraoperative blood loss and mean length of incisions in group MI were 77.20 min,104.20 mL and 5.12 cm respectively and significantly lower than those in group C(P＜0.01).The X-ray exposure and the reduction time in group MI lasted longer than in group C(P＜0.01).The mean time of bone union and in-patient stay in both groups were nearly equal(P＞0.05).At the latest tollow-up,all the fractures united in both groups without nonuuion or delayed union.Conclusion Compared with the conventional protocol,introduction of PFN by a pereutaneuus K-wire inserted into the central medullary canal of the proximal femur is much more minimally in- vasive and effective.
