Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2012;30(2):101-105
BackgroundWith the number of diabetics increases, people pay more attention to the diabetic keratopathy. The major mechanism leading to diabetic keratopathy is diabetic corneal neuropathy. So it is significant to observe pathologic mechanism of diabetic corneal neuropathy. Objective To investigate the protective effects of edaravone( a free radical scavenger) on corneal nerve of rats with experimental diabetic corneal neuropathy, then explain the effects of oxidative stress in the pathologic mechanism of diabetic corneal neuropathy. Methods Seventy Sprague-Daxley male rats were taken as experimental subjects and 20 of them were used as normal control group. The remaining 50 were induced to be diabetic mellitus by a single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin and divided into 2 groups randomly:edaravone treated group and diabetic control group. In the edaravone treated group,edaravone(0.2 g/L) eye drops were used 3 times a day until the animal was killed.Five rats in each group were sacrificed at 6,8,10 and 12 weeks respectively. Then the corneal sensation, number of corneal nerve fibers, morphology, content of malondialdehyde(MDA) and activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD) in the corneal tissue were detected.ResultsIn the diabetic control group, the corneal sensation and the number of corneal nerve fibers were decreased, the density of neural network for cluster was sparse, the nerve activity was decreased, the content of MDA in the corneal tissue was significantly increased, the activity of SOD in the corneal tissue was significantly decreased (P<0.01 ).Accompany with the course of disease, the above change was obvious day after day.Compared with the diabetic control group, the corneal sensation and the morphological abnormalities in corneal nerve of edaravone group were improved significantly which had the partial branches to the 12th week, the content of MDA in the corneal tissue was significantly decreased, the activity of SOD in the corneal tissue was significantly increased (P<0.01).Conclusions Edaravone can lower diabetic corneal nerve of rats with experimental diabetic corneal neuropathyinjury,Oxidative stress may be a critical pathologic mechanism of diabetic corneal neuropathy.

Journal of Practical Stomatology 2014;(5):698-700
Objective:To study the expression of IFN-γ,IL-4 and IL-17 in peripheral blood of patients with oral lichen planus(OLP). Methods:The level of IFN-γ,IL-4 and IL-17 in peripheral blood were detected by ELISA in 60 OLP patients(including 30 erosive ca-ses and 30 non-erosive cases)and 25 healthy volunteers(controls).Data were statistically analyzed by SPSS 13.0.Results:(1 )The level of IFN-γin serum of patients with non-erosive OLP and erosive OLP were significantly lower than that in the controls(P<0.01);while the level of IL-4 in the patients were significantly higher than that in the controls(P<0.01),and the IFN-γ/IL-4 ratio in non-ero-sive OLP and erosive groups were significantly lower than that in the control group(P<0.01);(2)The level of IL-17 in erosive OLP pa-tients was significantly higher than that in the controls(P<0.05),while no statistical difference was seen between non-erosive OLP group and the control group(P>0.05).Conclusion:The down-regulated level of IFN-γand up-regulated level of IL-4,which result in the decrease of IFN-γ/IL-4 ratio, might be one of the immune etiological factors of OLP,while the up-regulated level of IL-17 protein in OLP may be mainly related with the inflammatory processes of OLP.

ObjectiveTo compare the effects of two methods for the treatment of delayed defecation of neonatal meconium. Methods Sixty-seven neonates with delayed defecation of neonatal meconium were divided into experiment group (n=37) and control group (n=30). The former group was managed with abdominal massage followed by glycerol enema and the latter with abdominal massage followed by anus stimulation. Then the groups were compared in terms of the time for initial defecation of meconium, the volume of defecation, exhanstion time for defecation, abdominal distention and vomiting and serum bilirubin within 7 days.Result The treatment group was superior to the control one in terms of time for initial defecation of meconium, the volume of defecation, exhanstion time for defecation (P<0.05) and the incidences of abdominal distention, vomiting and serum bilirubin within 7 days were significantly lower than the control group (P<0.05).Conclusions The method of glycerol enema combined with abdominal massage is more effective for promoting defecation of neonatal meconium than the method of anus stimulation. It can reduce the incidence of abdominal distension, vomiting and pathological jaundice.

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of in vivo 1H-MRS in the hyper acute reaction stage of radiation-induced brain injury after nasopharyngeal carcinoma radiotherapy. Methods Eighteen patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma accepted radiotherapy for the first time. Bilateral temporal lobes in all cases were examined by conventional MRI and 1H-MRS before and after radiotherapy with radiation dose of 20 Gy, 40 Gy, and 60 Gy, respectively. MR image was performed with T_1-weighted gradient- and spin-echo, T_2-weighted spin-echo, fluid-attenuated inversion-recovery, and point resolution spectroscopy. The change of the spectroscopic morphology and the ratios of the metabolites were observed. Results There were no changes of signal in the temporal lobes with conventional MRI, but the peak height of NAA and Cho decreased obviously in the anterior half of the temporal lobes with 1H-MRS after radiotherapy. The post-radiotherapy changes of different metabolic peak in the anterior temporal lobes presented as two types: one type was that Cho and NAA peak were of the same height simultaneously. There were 20 locations (56%) of the 36 reaching the peak when accepting 20 Gy, 22 (61%) when accepting 40 Gy, and 13 (36%) when accepting 60 Gy, respectively. The other type was that Cho peak became the highest, whereas NAA peak was obviously lower and decreased to be the second highest. There were 4 locations(11%) of the 36 reaching the peak when accepting 20 Gy, 10 (28%) when accepting 40 Gy, and 23 (64%) when accepting 60 Gy, respectively. The ratio of Cho/Cr, NAA/Cr, and NAA/Cho decreased in the same position too. In addition, there was positive correlation between the ratios of the metabolites and the dose of radiotherapy. Conclusion 1H-MRS can be used to diagnose the radiation-induced injury of the brain in early acute reaction stage after nasopharyngeal carcinoma radiotherapy through reflecting histiocytic metabolism, and provide objective basis for pathology development and cellular metabolism study, also it can provide feasible projects for the clinic.
